Thank you very much. Great explanation. Simple pictures with excellent explanation. It is amazing how the simple illustrations are clear enough to explain/illustrate what is really important, but not too detailed to distract from your explanation. Very well balanced.

Construction of Bendix drive The figure shows the Bendix drive to start the motor. It is attached to the starter motor armature shaft. The drive head is fitted to the end of the armature shaft. The pinion gear, which has internal threads, is mounted in a threaded sleeve, just like a bolt nut. The sleeve is not directly connected to the starter motor shaft but uses it only as a bearing. A spring is attached to the drive head and also to the sleeve. Operation of Bendix drive When the starter is at rest, the pinion gear is not engaged with the flywheel. When the starter is started, the armature starts to rotate. This causes the threaded sleeve to rotate as well because the sleeve is secured to the armature shaft by a spring. The pinion, due to its inertia at rest and its unbalanced weight, rotates very little but advances in the rotating volt until it engages with the teeth of the steering wheel. The slight rotation of the pinion gear helps to properly engage the flywheel. When the pinion gear hits the collar, it starts to rotate with the sleeve, causing the flywheel to work with it. When the flywheel turns, the crankshaft also turns and the engine starts. The spring between the armature shaft and the threaded sleeve takes the shock from the start.
Torsion spring absorbs the shocks of pinion gear. When pinion gear returns back, it comes with high velocity and hits to sliding dog and creat shocks. This shocks will be absorbed by torsion spring.
@@SampurnaEngg I finally found out what the spring does. Here is what it does. This is the helical spring on the drive’s shaft. It winds when the starter motor powers and the pinion gear moves to engage the flywheel. The Bendix starter drive spring serves several functions. It allows the pinion gear to reach the ring gear of the flywheel. It also cushions the gear from the mechanical impact of the engagement.
Clarity comes from experience.
An experienced faculty teach like this 🙏
Thanks 🙏🙏
This is actually the best video for bendix drive that i have found on youtube !
Concept is explained very well
Thanks 🙏
Amazing explanation! Excellent to include the smaller video using the bolt & nut to further illustrate. Thank you for this work sir!
No other video on youtube was so helpful as this video....you made my concepts clear....Thank you, sir!

Construction of Bendix drive
The figure shows the Bendix drive to start the motor.
Operation of Bendix drive
When the starter is at rest, the pinion gear is not engaged with the flywheel.
So clearly described

What does the torsion spring do?
Torsion spring absorbs the shocks of pinion gear. When pinion gear returns back, it comes with high velocity and hits to sliding dog and creat shocks. This shocks will be absorbed by torsion spring.

where can we find calculation parameters for Bendix drive mechanism sir.
