Thanks for the helpful video-Clear and concise. I use the import from Eagle feature a lot in Kicad. Only partially worked in kicad 7. Works great in 8. Very helpful!
I already have installed kicad version 7 in my computer.what happen if I downloaded and installed latest version of kicad software 8 version. Either both software are available in my pc or the version 8 will automatically updated with version 7?
I have the same situation, both versions will be available and can use both at the same time. I did some a problem with 3d models links being changed but that was because it looking for kicad 6 for some reason.
@@TheEngineeringExperienceYT You simply said "we use KiCAD". In that case I'd like to know what "we" do :D I'm an avia tech, so you might say it's the adjacent yard.
Will THIS version load my old design files? Without some kind of interversion compatibility, this project is doomed. We cannot re-enter all of our old designs every time programmers decide to change some little something.
@@TheEngineeringExperienceYT Actually, I still have version 5.x; as I said, I have no time to re-enter all of these designs. They SHOULD have included a version translator to upgrade symbols, footprints, schematics, and layouts. If they had any self-respect, they would yet write and publish one. This is why I don't donate to this project. One of these days there will be no OS on which to run version 5 and I will be thoroughly hosed.
@@byronwatkins2565 I have no clue what you're talking about, I've been using KiCad since v4, and never had a project that couldn't be imported into the latest version.
@@byronwatkins2565I can’t remember the upgrade from Kicad 5 but ime moving from version 6 to 7 and now 7 to 8 is as seamless as possible. Literally just open my projects in the current version, open it’s Eeschema and PCBnew files and then just save. I had a relatively old project which needed to run a footprint and symbol recovery, but that was only once and it didn’t cause any issues.

Who are "we"? :) What is your team usual line of work?
I am not sure what you're referring to! I'll have to rewatch the video.
I am an Electronic Design Engineer working in the aerospace market.

How do you say kiwi?
With extreme caution.
It's obviously pronounced just like Wifi... Keep up son.
@@Meadon-m2g Kiwi and wifi. Hmmm, you're on a roll there. Just in the wrong direction Pops.

You still have version 7 so you don't have to upgrade if you don't want to.
