"Welcome to the Survivor food auction where you bid for food items and food items only." -Jeff It really is that simple to get rid of the problematic parts while leaving everything we enjoy about auctions.
I could even see them auctioning off a known food item along with a covered "bonus" could be anything from an advantage, letter from home, or even a Zonk!
Wish you had made it a top 6 and included the Micronesia auction, because Erik offering the girls money to lick their fingers after eating that chocolate cake combined with James shaking his head and saying something was wrong with that boy, as well as James just going to town on that bat soup were some iconic moments
I guess James missed the part of survivor China where chocolate cake was also licked off of fingers by Peigh-Gee and Amanda. They should get credit for pioneering this move
She was hoping that there would be another clue/separate challenge advantage to bid on after the rock draw and would be able to get it uncontested as she'd be the only with 500 left. Unfortunately for her the auction ended straight after.
The Coach & Assistant Coach loved ones visit is the most iconic loved ones visit of all time. That and Lisa Welchel's brother robotically shouting "SISTER!" as to not blow her cover.
I really honestly am wondering if there wasn't some like... secret 'actually her son' thing with Lisa's brother, not gonna lie. Their relationship was definitely odd for siblings...
@@frederickschiller2185 Yup he posted on Twitter the morning after Tony won Winners at War saying he celebrated by getting out the white rock. I was so happy to see that he kept it.
Not only do I wish Billy was at exile island for Candace, I wish the instant spark that America clearly saw led them to partner up in Blood v Water. Tyson would’ve had no chance
If Spencer had won that rock draw I think he might've had the game. Obviously impossible to know for sure but he could've pulled something off; Tony having not one but two idols was a big part of why people didn't bother targeting him.
I think it was more the contestants collaborating to not bid on the loved ones letters so they'd be cheap that caused them to retire it. That's what usually prompts them to stop doing a challenge.
auctions were by far one of my favorite parts of every season :((( I say they just eliminate any possibility of advantages within the auctions and just have the FOOOODDD
They can easily bring this back. Just take a page from the international versions. They do like you said. Covered item advantages. An Idol clue was hidden in a big jar of candy. Monty Hall switching item advantages. This also applies to the letters from home. Keep them a mystery so no one can abuse them. Or only have one be given away as a video message or chat.
That’s a good idea to bundle the advantage in with a random food! Because I love the auction, it’s a fun “break” from the game and it’s entertaining to see them get so excited about food because we forget they are pretty much starving out there!
Bring it back Aussie style.. loved Shonee gettin' her advantage along with lollies. I will never understand the temper tantrum Jeff threw after Shirin stated the obvious.
Was that really the reason though? The fact that no one wanted to bid because they were all waiting for advantages also ruined the enjoyment of the auction somewhat.
@@ariellee2329 she was the reason that everyone got their letter for twenty bucks. It promotes everyone just spending minimum for it and not competing to actually try to get it
@@lucasmussen or f you Jeff because Jeff didn’t need to remove the auction to fix this problem. They could’ve just have hidden every item or just removed advantages entirely.
I feel like Yul pulled out the idol at the auction as a diplomatic gesture for Penner. Raro were so mad at Penner and wont believe him when he said he flipped because Yul had the idol. So Yul is like "Penner was right, I do have the idol, so please stop hating on Penner"
I’m kind of surprised Caramoan’s auction wasn’t on this list, just for Cochrans comment after licking peanut butter off Sherri’s fingers. Even Jeff laughed at that. Plus there’s a perfect opportunity to shout out human golden retriever Eddie who bought a massive thing of peanut butter for the tribe. Clearly he smelt it and thought it would be just for him. Still a good boy though. Edit to add: Another idea is having advantages offered but come in the form of covered items like much of the food items are offered. “This item will remain covered. It’s an extra vote”.
If I were the show-runner, I would have Jeff announce that the advantage is a covered item, but some food and gross items are also covered. That could lead to great intense/greedy moves from contestants in either thinking it's not worth it and just bid on food that's uncovered OR take the chance and bid all $500 on a covered item even already knowing the chances of it possibly being food or a gross item instead. I hope they bring it back in S41 because they had more than enough time to read the audiences comments online during lockdown.
Finnish survivor did that and basically trolled the contestants because they would cover items so many times the contestants thought there must be an advantage but there never was. Sometimes when a player won a covered item, they would bring another covered item on the table and ask the player to choose, but this year there were zero advantages and it was kinda a bummer
I'd say the best item in Survivor auction history was in season 4 of Australian Survivor when Luke spent 320 AUD and won every item that was bid on at the auction.
One way to bring back the auction is to do it tribal style like in Thailand. If there is an idol clue it would be shared among the tribe so that could add some interesting development, and there wouldn’t be any gaming of the loved ones notes because only one tribe gets them.
I'd always thought the line was "Get fat dipping that guac" which had always made Woo Huang a total savage in my mind, but I understand now. Thank you.
Love your intro Lucas! Always feel at home when I hear your welcome in guys! Fully agree just put the advantage at a random point, not predictably at the end...
A way to fix the auction. Both letters from home, and advantages stay covered until bought. To raise the stakes, they introduce penalties on covered items too. Such as no vote or a trip to exile
Cagayan had some of the finest looking items, and I'm willing to bet that they had way more to offer, but those damn gamebots wouldn't budge, and let them go to waste.
Stopped watch survivor awhile ago but I always wanted them to being back the auction and not tell the players no advantages and only one person gets the letter just to see the people miss out for expecting things haha

Coach and his assistant coach makes me laugh every time I see that scene
My favorite survivor auction moment is Randy passing out cookies then his interview after "I left the auction broke, full, half-drunk and pissed off"
That has to be the single most Randy quote I have ever heard.
The auction was my favorite part of every single season. So sad it’s gone. 😢
favorite auction moment is still Woo describing the wings to Jeff
Jeff loved every minute too. "Go for it"
