who is here in 2024 I am
Drummer on Vocals, guitarist on Keyboards but they F----k-n nailed it !!
Kevin Godley had an absolutely elite voice. It's amazing he's never in the conversation about great rock vocalists.
Great vocalist, hammy actor😂
He's no Steve Perry.
He wasn’t really rock that’s why. Excellent but definitely not rock
@@myoldmate😂😂😂. True! ❤

This song came out months after my mum left my violent dad. Who had us living in fear. I was 6 and this song was my favourite!
Brilliant tune. Glad your mum managed to find the courage to set herself free and live a healthier and happier life.
Only geniuses can evoke such emotions in a completely electronic setup. Fantastic song!!
You should check out 100gecs if you enjoy that vibe
What memories!!!!!
Pure Magic
Regards from South Africa

I love listening to these old songs of my childhood whilst reading the comments of others reminiscing of happier times. Take care everyone
me too, you take care and keeping listening and thinking of those happy days ,
Hope you have happier times.
Likewise Keith .... there's LOTS of doing exactly the same brother.
Absolutely. I donthe same.fabulous..stay cool folk's
Ain't that the truth
Miami Vice ,da habe ich den Song zum ersten mal gehört und höre den Song heute noch ❤
Was at a 10cc gig last month, and Kevin Godley was sat in the audience with the rest of us. Really wish he had been on that stage because, for me, he was the voice of 10cc, and that's not meant to be an insult to the rest of the band. His voice just stands out. I've loved that band since the mid 70s when I was just a kid
Was this in Dublin?
Remember this one with fondness back in my younger days, carefree times.
Sep 1981. Highly original and creative. Takes me back to the first month of Secondary School. Goose pimples and massive doses of nostalgia from this song - amazing keyboards
I started secondary in September 1981. I can still remember some of it now- not good memories but then it will be same for so many. This track was on a compilation someone I knew had and I think I bought it myself. It is one of the oddest, quirkiest and in some ways quite sinister sounding songs I have ever heard, and I listen to an eclectic mix of music. It really is atmospheric and moody, not surprising given the subject matter. Kudos to Godley and Creme for writing it. They can be proud of something unique. I largely forgot about it for years ( sometimes that happens) until relatively recently when I listened again and marvelled at its weird brilliance!
Everything about this amazing!
Such a fantastic unforgettable track.💓👍
Simply sublime.
Unique and memorable song. May well be a favourite of mine. When I think of music from '81, Under Your Thumb is always the one that comes to mind.
This came out just before my first train journey on my own for the college run. The song does the thrashy thump and rattle rhythm of the old diesel electrics to perfection.
This is gold
I was just 11 or 12 then. But I remember they had a run of hits, and I really looked forward to each one. This, 'Cry', 'Wedding bells' and 'Englishman in new york'. For some reason I thought of them today, and headed here to reminisce.
love it tune timless
I was 13 when this came out and I was transfixed. It affected me for sure, as it's dark with eerie pulsating sounds.
What a mind blowing, gob smacking, wild ride of pure unfettered creativity ❤❤❤
Under Your Thumb is definitely on my playlist.
It was the early 90's when I discovered Godley & Creme (and 10CC). Borrowed the "Changing Faces" CD from a friend. I played it on repeat. I didn't want to give it back. Absolute fantastic duo. Great memories.
🤣 makes perfect sense 👍
I absolutely loved this song as an 8 year old growing up.
What voice he had just beautiful sing those haunting words one my favourites❤❤
Godley & Creme . Excellent musician/Singer and they are excellent music video directors too
A big hit in the U.K. charts in Autumn '81.Great song by Kevin & Lol
Autumn 1981! Started my first year in secondary school! We had two hard line games teachers, Mr Hanley and Mr Durkan! They gave us three minutes to dry and dress up after having showers! Then they would throw us out of the dressing room into the open air to finish dressing up! Yes, autumn 1981 was a terrifying time period for me! Mum eventually reported them to SALFORD EDUCATION COMMITEE!
Very talented - an unusual example of the lyrics being important.
Haunting pop tune
A number one song, for me!!
Absolutely brilliant …super music icons !! Such a poignant song ……
As an eleven year old kid, I was amazed (transfixed) by watching Godley and Creme on T.O.T.P. with Under your Thumb. Only as an adult did I learn that Kevin should be more energetic on stage as the director of T.O.T.P didn't think it was "selling the show". Chocky, Dramarama, How, Sapphire and Steel, Anybody remember "Video & Chips" on ITV.
Love this song
Brilliant band and amazing video producers, they could do no wrong
From 1982😊
a classic, love the way he thrashes his head around in dramatic style.
Wonderful pop tune from my youth...
I Just arrived age 19,from S.W. Cornwall to Manchester city to the Polytechnic in September 1981 after the Summer Moss Side riot...
The polytechnic placed me in, 'digs' just the other side of Moss Side from the campus which was scary for me especially when I decided to walk to college one day and found myself walking past 3 or 4 burned out shops on the way !!
Funny how various songs remind you of different events..
Heres your medal
Try doing the same walk up Upper Parliament in Liverpool circa June 1981 to your place of work ;(
Bet its been over 20 years since I last heard this still remember the words and it still makes me cry
Reminds me of waiting for the bus in Rusholme Manchester after a Man City night midweek game. 1981 was a turbulent year but society is far more vicious divided and unhappier now. And music reflects that as it is now soulless.
At last I get to hear the 'other' songs from this mysterious group that dazzled me in the middle of the night in 1975 . . Practically a pop institution of creative music . . Scary how versatile the members are.
Love Kevin Godleys voice
Outrageously excellent !
don't get music like this these days, what ever happened to good music? their music has a story to it, great tune
It got "rapped " !
This song came out when I was only one year old and I used to LOVE it. The music has gone it's just noise now. Some of it I like but it's got to have vocals and be europhoric
This song has a very sad story
There is still music like this now... Just not in the mainstream
There is still music like this now... Just not in the mainstream
Think of this every time I’m travelling on a train
First heard this on David Heane’s radio show around 2003ish… since then it’s made its way to my top 3 songs of the decade. Incredible 😍
What a great song almost a forgotten gem from the early 80s
Magic .
A great tale of an encounter with a ghost on a train. A very sad song.
Remember this, love it.
fabulous
brings back mmories of the fox and hounds in syston, leicestershire 1981/82
Great song miss this music!
Who's still listening 82
I wish they made a video for this song it would have been a mini video masterpiece
Sadly, the days of quality productions like this are gone now. I can't imagine many people listening to todays music in 10, 20 years time to be honest.
Yes it would have been and it sends a message about abuse
I thought they did but might have been special effects when on top of the pops.
Dry ice/steam speeding train etc.
@@sparkrace indeed they did.......
@@herridge819 There's still lots of great music being made, it's just not in the charts or on the mainstream radio.
....very unique!
I recall an interview where they commented on the irony that they were known for doing other people's videos but this one caught them on the hop because no-one expected this track to be released as quickly as it was and it became a hit so quickly that there simply wasn't enough time to do their own video.
kevin godley great voice
Sad, moving song.
Well I haven't heard this for 40 years 😂😂🎉🎉❤❤
Stuck in my head forever
The days of 1981...reminds me of dark evenings as a seven year old and when the world seemed a frightening place...sad thing is the world was a lot SAFER then
ditto
Not sure the world was "safer" then TBH... We're just older and more aware now
No it was not safer!
As you were only 7 you didn't realise this.
Maggie Thatcher and Co + in power
Ronnie Reagan AND...
The Russians made the world dangerous with nukes!
Shipyard strikes in Poland.
Riots across the UK against THE POLICE. (not the group)
Safer? Hardly!
:-0
The comment bears no relevance to the beauty of this G & C number.
The UK measureably less safe then - the official statistics on violent crime bear this out. I was already in secondary school in 1981, and believe you me, London was noticeably less safe to me then than it is now!
this song always makes me think of when i was in a very very abusive relationship..I got beat up nearly every week, and one day i heard this on the radio and thought i got to get away, but i clearly didnt kill myself i ran away with our 2 babies and never went back :( wasnt under his thumb anymore
Good for you!
Well done. I trust all is well for you still.
Best move you could ever have made...
angie s Glad you and your children left that bully, do hope you happy and found someone that loves and respect you and your children, take care and be safe.
Well done you 👏 xx
still gives me a chill when I hear this.....and by creepy coincidence, I was talking memorable tunes to a musician landlord only TWO nights ago and requested this.....then this pops up on u tube suggestions......spoooky....
I first heard this as a 7 years old in 1981
not heard this in years love it
I was 9 back then going on 10, now im nearly 49 cant belive it! I rember the winter time of 1981 was extreamly cold and snowy
I was 8
stays a strange, mysterious song
One of my absolute 😍 favourites
This must not have been released in America and that’s a shame because this is amazing
Im still here , still ❤️
i was a punky skinhead in the early 80's... and i know the words to this song so well for some reason ?
great
And then orange was gold for the tags they had sold
Great tune love the keyboard
Havnt heard this song for many years .
All problems can be sorted out if there is the mind and want of the other person and love in the heart and the realisation that if walked away from then its to late for regrets a few yrs later as it all be gone forever
Still relevant
That keyboard part sounds to me very similar to something of Tangerine dreams ' Ricochet '
I was only 9 when it came out. I hadnt heard of 10CC. Glad it did though. Great track.
Legit both love and hate this track. Love it because my grandad used to play it all of the time when I was a kid and it sounded otherworldly even in the eighties, but hate it because he was abusive. Ying and yang and all that...
Really good
Brilliant!
This is called genius, today's music is not.
Music snobbery isn't genius either
Thank you Admiral Kirk.
Peter walker love's this song
Listen through headphones.
Ah '81 ! Back when many British blokes had a 'tache and/or a full beard!
Rate tune 👏👏👏👏
Cool 😎
More perfection from G&C
2021 who listen?

I recall a video with this but am.unsure if it waa there's or the tv show golden oldie picture shows with dave lee travis on
Bring back the 80,s we had the best decade of music all properly played no auto tune no swearing and girls that dressed tidy unlike today's lot
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 🤡
Potreste caricare il videoclip "Cry" di Godley & Creme? Grazie.
Kevin Godley HATED doing TotP and miming. I'm sure if they had made their own video is would have been terrific.
❤
this one from kevin and LoL Iok-ish!
The song was taken from a ghost story by Dickens ..the Signalman.
Godley & Creme
Reflection of my life always feeling unloved
This dude reminds me of RAY FUCKING PURCHASE so bad.
