    Does bonding agent work without the mesh? Your description of the mix texture was a good tip 😎

      Thanks for the comment!! The bonding agent does work without the mesh, it just depends on weather the substrate needs the mesh or not. Concrete/masonry substrates do not require any mesh, all you need is the bonding agent. Most other substrates will require mesh! Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!! 👍

    Hi nice video. Can you please explain why there's a need to do separate scratch and brown coats? Why can't you just place a 3/4" thick single coat? How much time must pass after the scratch coat is applied, before the brown coat is added?

    • @DecoCreteTV
      @DecoCreteTV  11 месяцев назад

      The scratch coat needs to be applied for several reasons. The main reason is to get a good long-term bond to the substrate, thick layers of vertical mix just won't bond very well if applied directly to the wall. The scratch coat will also help the next coat hang on the wall better, that's the reason for creating the groves in the scratch coat. It's also important on block walls to cover up the mortar joints, they would end up shadowing back through if you applied the vertical mix directly to the wall. Generally, waiting till the next day to apply the final coat is the best idea. The scratch coat needs to be set up to the point that you won't break any of the fingers off while applying the vertical mix. In the summertime, it is possible to scratch coat in the morning and do the next coat in the late afternoon, you just have to be careful with it. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!

      @@DecoCreteTVThanks. How much time should elapse between the Brown Coat and the Finish Coat, assuming cemetitious Finish Coat. How much time should elapse between Brown Coat and Elastomeric Finish Coat ( I believe acrylic-based, comes in a bucket as a liquid)?

    Your talking very fast and said there's some kind of plywood under her, but slurred the description of what kind of plywood. Thats an important point is the prep underneath. So, What are the correct materials exactly such as regular plywood or pressure treated etc AND what are the right kind of screws used to secure the plywood to the building? Is that just roofing tar paper and are there other options other than tar paper?

    • @DecoCreteTV
      @DecoCreteTV  2 года назад

      Normal exterior grade plywood and roofing tar paper will work fine for this application. Check out this pdf from spider lath for fastener recommendations spiderlath.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Installation-Instructions-SpiderLath.pdf

    How about if I am putting a scratch coat on old concrete block??? Would I need to put plywood on it, or will it stick to the block?

    • @DecoCreteTV
      @DecoCreteTV  2 года назад

      No plywood necessary, make sure to thoroughly clean the blocks and add a bonding agent too if you are worried. Thanks for watching!

      I want to do a wall by my driveway. What do you use to stick to concrete?

  • @4142Wilb

    Do the crown staples have to be stapled to the studs or does it just need to penetrate the SOB panels when applying the chicken wire type stuff?

    • @DecoCreteTV
      @DecoCreteTV  Год назад

      They need to go through the foam strip on the lathe, but do not need to hit studs. Penetrating through the plywood is fine. Thanks for watching!

    I do have a question, I’m building an outdoor bar/cooking area, it will be stone veneer that I’m cutting and making myself, I want to have a concrete base molding and a couple vertical concrete moldings if you will and corners to make sections and I was going to make a form for all of that, what type of concrete mix should I use for those and what is the best mortar or thin set for adhesion for my stone after the scratch coat of course? thanks in advance

    • @DecoCreteTV
      @DecoCreteTV  2 года назад

      Cement-All would work for your stone molds because it goes thin to thick very easily and sets very quickly. Use regular mortar for adhesion, we use type s
