I remember watching my dad (when he was close to 50) do randori with another of our old dudes (who was at least mid-60s), and it was kind of funny. Neither one of them had a problem taking a fall when the other got in, and the way you could tell when one of them really caught the other was when one of them swore. My dad would usually blurt out, "oh shit!", while the other guy would call him a 'lucky bastard'. They really had a good time, and it was fun for everyone else, too. They really set a good example of truly Old Guy judo.
Shintaro. This is great stuff. I'm an old man. Yes I have been playing since 1972. Like most of my peers, I dislike kumi kata. I play randori with the following attitude for my opponent: "You take your grip, I'll take mine. Show me what you can do." I think that you see much more variety and elegance in the techniques in this style. The Judo isn't quite as scrappy, and it's much more fun. Once in a while, an old man will catch a young opponent with a clean technique, leaving him scratching his head.
I'm a 53 y/o BJJ blue belt, and thanks to you sensei, I've being using the old guys judo and I've been lasting longer when rolling with young guys...I love it!
I'm 40 years old, and I just got my shodan here in Japan against high schoolers... Your videos are great! And I relate a lot with this old guy judo series! My go to grip is armpit and armpit! Taniotoshi using my beer weight against those fast little kids😅 and having double armpit I trained to use osoto on both sides, specially against lefties!
I'm 60 and obtained my Shodan almost 3 years ago and almost finished with my Nidan but I throw and roll with out students who are half my age but I love it keeps in good shape, we cross Traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu we don't follow most of the rules, keep these Oldman video's coming. My daughter lives in Brooklyn and I'm trying to have her train at your Dojo
That is actually great. I have this old guy in my dojo and I now understand so much better what he is doing. Now the next question would be: How to fight against old man judo?
Said on the last video; this is excellent. Nobody takes the time to do videos like this. Do more. There’s a reason the last one was one of your most watched videos.
This Judo for old guys is instructional gold. I just joined a gym and haven't been athletic for almost 10 years now, this video series gives me a better concept of the types of motions that are available to my tubby, out-of-shape body until I can get a bit more nimble.
You are the best, man! Thank you again for the excellent videos - they are very well-made, your explanations and demos are very clear, and your enthusiasm is infectious, especially for us old guys!! Cheers from Canada!
Was the young and competitive guy in the dojo scratching head and wondering why some old fart do their Judo a particular way, me at age 35 now, with a sprained back and broken ribs from training and competition, finally understand why.... this video is helpful though. Thanks Shintaro
You've got to love this ! I recognise myself in those tricks, and it makes me laugh ... AND learn. AaaAAaaargh ! ( past 40 that is what we say when we move a muscle ).
Love it. Came back to Judo after 20 year break and nearly 40 now.😂😂 the 20 year old kids are strong and technical as fuck these days….I’ve been doing this type of judo for the past 8 months 😅😅
The funny thing is ... I really did go for the kick in the "ding-ding" last week against a youngster ( he's 18, 60 kgss, I'm 43, 75 kgs ). I missed my tomoe, but I didn't miss some others parts. Sadly.
I broke my ankle last week in my 3rd month of Judo. I cracked the lower 1/2 inch end of the tibia. Surgery in a week. I've worked out all my life with all sorts of sports, and now I am 62. I fought in 3 wars and was wounded in one of them. I went through rehab then, and made it back to full recovery. I've been injured in sports many, many times with a few hairline factures but mostly ligament and muscle injuries. I really enjoy Judo. It is the highlight of my day, until I broke my right ankle. I didn't keep my right leg underneath my body the way I was supposed to as I was flipping my training partner. Give me a good reason to stay with Judo?
@@eddard9442 I was trying to flip my 270 ibs. partner, but I believe that I wasn't keeping my feet underneath me. So much of his weight was on my ankle. I've watched a lot of RUclips reviews and read 2 Judo books since. My conclusion is that I have to be more careful. I can't approach Judo like I was a 20 year old, or like I see in the Olympics. Flat footed. Yes, having watched a number of older Judo black belts and see what your describing. I am a black belt in Korean Hapkido, so I can do all the falls with my eyes shut. I did break a rib in Hapkido when I as a white belt. Yesterday, I was in the gym doing some rehab exercises. One of my friends was there and he told me that he had torn his ACL, and quit Judo as a brown belt. So I am really torn what to do. I don't want to quit. But, I can't just get injured to that level on a consistent basis.
pushing 16 more like... Id ID him for Cigs and booze ;) FYI - 44 here + the military crippled me good, started judo at 7, competed at national level in under 18 and over 18. My judo competition days are behind me and personally Im a big fan of Tai chi these days, without it its hard to get moving, everything is stiff and sounds a little bit like a broken gearbox on a car.
Shintaro: Please put up some Old Man ten buck videos, with the proviso that you have to be over a certain age to buy them. For me: that age would be 40.
You are talking about older guys so actually you DO want to destroy the ACL & you DO want to destroy the arm~!! In your 60s you are not engaging in rough and tumble play. If you have to do any of these things it'll only be because you are defending yourself or your spouse against seriously dangerous threats, and you gotta get it done immediately and you gotta completely disable the attacker. If one puts any energy into learning how not to destroy the other guys joints, one will likely end up on the ground where the attacker's homeys will be able to reign kicks to one's head and back use knives with impunity.
Yo...My sensei is an old Korean guy and he goes "My Gi.....little too short. 😉". I showed him the hands up pull your sleeve back thing and he cracked up. (He's like 78).

Love this , we need more! A whole Old Man Judo series!
As a 46yr-old guy, trained in BJJ and various martial arts, that one thing I immediately learned from the vid, is
AGGGHHHHHH
It's hidden gem🤣

Is double armpit grip legal to grip and hold in competition?
@@BlankethP yes, if you don't stay there just defending, you just need to act offensive every 10 seconds or so!
This is my favorite series from you

You just cannot ! It is THAT powerful. ( old guy talking here )
Don't fall on them please.
Patience. Just wait 30 years until you outlive their judo years and become the oldest and best at these strategies in the dojo
Said on the last video; this is excellent. Nobody takes the time to do videos like this. Do more. There’s a reason the last one was one of your most watched videos.
Not worried about the ruleset after a certain age.. hahaha. So freaking true.
Me about to enter first tournament in 15 years and carefully taking notes :)

Danke!
You have to 100% make that patch. I need one
Yes please.
That blue bit on the gi is interesting.
Me: This is exactly what I need!
Him: I also have REAL Judo instructionals available.
:(
Hahaha, my feelings, exactly ! What a let down...

Super brilliant! Laughed my guts out learnt heaps (as an Old man!). I think your famous now with the "BAM"
Just turned 30 and i have a few injuries. This will be useful
Awesome stuff!! Love to see more
I´ll be hitting 50 soon so I loved this video!!! Keep more videos like this coming!!! 宜しく!
This really fun and somehow practical.
Part 3 please
This is the best system. I need to steal this.

i am 35 years old orange belt, this could be me ha ha ha
30s is still a great age to train to full capability. Don't hold back.
35 is young
I’m a 35 year old dude who likes Kentucky fried chicken. This is me. Haha.

I'm really digging this Old Guy Judo!
Love it I'm old that's my type of Judo now.🔥🔥🤙🤙
Thanks a lot Shintaro. I'm a 36 green belt. Judo lacks a real program for adult amateur like that.❤❤
Hey I'm 71 but you nailed it
Love your work!
lmfao, great video - judo has become way more fun! PS 41 years YOUNG, but these tips worked like a charm with my randori last evening 😅

dude this had me rolling, you are my hero
It feels so personal.
started “old guy” style back in grade school 👍
( less complicated)
Is your tai otoshi instructional already out? Dont see it in your courses link
Love this.
I like the berry dingling tomoe nage variation
Kick him after the stiff arm 😅

How did it happen exactly? Were you flat footed?

Hahaha, throw in a lazy Sumi and it could be me! Anything to get it to newaza.
great vid
thanks!
I recognized myself so much in it ... and i am just 37 😅😅
So. I am a relatively fit 55 year old. Would like to start judo, is it realistic for me to start?
I’m 53 and considering taking judo. Is that too old to just be getting started? Thanks.
I gotta remember these
Awesome
haha, That's basically covering all my moves!! that's all I got

Man this some BS , I started judo at 27, I'm 29 and do a lot of these, I feel personally attacked and I barely care
