Great video, so glad there wasn't a ram lamb in with the ewes. My "ram story" is we were removing the rams from the ewes and putting them together. We had them in a small pen and were about to pen them tight. 2 rams took 3 steps back, hit heads, and the smaller ram dropped dead! I heard his neck break. It was a freak accident. Have a great week.
Excuse the pun, but SNAP same thing happened me! Unfortunately the smaller ram was worth 3 times more then the big guy 😢
I was lucky not to end up with the same story! Can be tough at times....

What do the lambs look like when you cross the llyne ewe to a Charlois Ram? Are they more white faced or more Charlois looking? Would they look well to sell as breeding ewe lambs?

Great video chaps glad your lamb turned out to be female your ewe lambs will be nice looking hoggets come August Robbie is some crack 😂 dearest ram I bought was a charlois years ago he died in less than three weeks with the ewes and I had alot of empties so hard lesson learned

I'm so relieved that the lamb was a female. It's not good to have them bred too young with a ram that might be related to many of them. I'm so glad this didn't happen. I hope Robby wasn't too stiff the next day
Absolutely right. They would probably lambs down ok but the inbreeding would be a bigger problem!

Even if Robbie was useless you’d have to bring him for the banter! Bye god the land is quare wet . Ram mortality rate is high this year we have had a lot of bad feet and pneumonia in rams put it down to the weather basically, shocking hard on rams working hard, luckily we had a few spares and we needed them all, scanning next week so we’ll see if our management was as good as we hope it was or whether we are deluding ourselves! The boys are in the shed getting very well fed and foot bathed regularly so that they can be evicted when the ladies come in, we find that if you give them a chance for a month or so after the tipping and give them liberty thereafter there is very little minding on them for the lambing.

Would you dose ewes for fluke while in lamb. If so what dose. I have ewes lambing late this year and am bit worried about fluke. I used to dose when they lamb in Feb. Rams die on me they are a bit softer purebred maybe
Any of the fluke doses are fine for pregnant sheep. It's the handling that's a bigger problem.. I will dose my ewes again around 4 weeks out from lambing.

You say use Flukiver 2 or 3 times in a row, how long in-between each does
A year if possible. I always alternate doses, rafoxanide 1st, then Nitroxynil, then Flukiver, might chance Triclabendazole next if I needed a 4 th fluke dose but resistance a problem on some farms with that one.
Lost a beautiful black badger ram with much silver luster to his fleece unexpectedly. He was from a litter of six and was well put together as a ram could be. Very soft and dense fleece with plenty of staple length nearing 5 inches at 6 months of age. Bloat even though hadn't changed their ration.
Very hard to keep them all alive!
Now have a well put together young brown ram that's got all the ewes covered. He's a triplet out of triplets on both sides of his pedigree. Which is okay for what we have.
Baleing twine is getting scare now because of nets on bales 😂😂😂
I hear of lads buying the spool from the baler to have a bit about 😜

Ram tale for ya bought a pure breed ram of a top breeder in longford really sound fella picked my ram out of 15 in a field done the deal nearly a 1000 euro loaded him headed back for leitrim pulled for diesel in carrick on shannon about 30 mins later ram was dead in trailer 😮 rang the seller he said come back and we'll sort something and we did really sound man could have told me f@ck off I picked the ram I want out of the bunch not many men would look after you like that
