  • @Oldpigsass
    @Oldpigsass 5 лет назад +3

    Here the J45 more woody and mellow; the Hummingbird more bell-like and slightly more projecting. Which is surprising. Back in the late '70s I remember being disappointed with the Hummingbird's lack of volume, not much more than the Gibson Blue Ridge, but they did make a wonderful Gibson Heritage dreadnought which outperformed all their flat top range.

    • @maxwellfan55
      @maxwellfan55 4 года назад +2

      I own this Hummingbird, and you're right, it's not or ever was a loud dread, but that's one of it's redeeming advantages, as a backing for vocal. Possibly one of the best guitars for this. Very, vey balanced, exceptionally smooth and complimentary.

    Usually The J-45 sounds edgier and more crisp, but, in this case it is the opposite.

  • @mk00918

    Incredibly great comparison Demo!! Best I've seen or heard. Thank you. I am not sure which I prefer because they depict best in their respective class. I thought the J45 has a bit deeper sounding low end, but the Hummingbird Low end was just a little more articulate and defined perhaps? I heard a bit more upper midrange detail from the Hummingbird and it reminded me of a Martin in ways. I would love either of those. Hard pressed to pick a favorite! SUPERB Playing and great demo. The Mic did a great job capturing the true voice. I played a Hummingbird Vintage a couple days ago and that is "the voice" I heard in person too! Great guitars.

  • @gaztaylor9682
    @gaztaylor9682 8 лет назад +10

    Simply beautiful instruments in every way. I love the deep richness of that classic J45 and the more modern attack of the Hummingbird would sit perfectly in a mix. Just a dream for a cash strapped full time geetar picker like me though im afraid. Thanks to the Guitarist guys for the demo and the chance to dream though :)

  • @marin4311
    @marin4311 6 лет назад +1

    Very good demo. The essence of each guitar is revealed. As a songwriter, I prefer the J-45. But I have to admit the Hummingbird has more definition and clarity, maybe better for fingerpicking or soloing. The J-45 can be a killer for Rock & Roll tunes.

      @@cameron9643 Thanks, a wonderful collection. I would recommend the D35, but I preferred the HD35 when I owned one. Best to compare side by side if poss, but normally the HD would have slightly less rosewood brashness. Great guitars, really great guitars.
      These days mine are mainly acoustics and include Hummingbird TV, Martin D28-12stg, Patrick Eggle Saluda (Maple), 4 x slide resonators, Raimundo flamenco, a very cool Godin Jazz maple arch-top, PRS Santana, Epi 339, Martin DX.
      8 x Faith acoustics of different top/b&side tone-wood combinations incl 3 x parlours, 4 dreadnoughts, 1 x spruce/rosewood jumbo. There's probably more, I've sold/exchanged many.
      My fav all-round acoustic is a Faith slope shouldered cedar/mahogany dread but each one has its own sound and application. I also have many banjos, percussion and woodwind. All played and adored, some more frequently than others.

      The Gibson j 15 is $1999. in Canada. It’s about $1500 in the USA. Great sounding guitars, but try more than one. Gibson is starting to screw up, it’s hit or miss with the new models. The j 15 came out in 2014.

      @@stephenleblanc2227 Yep. Again, totally late on reply, but in response to OP's question... if you want CHEAP cheap, then you don't look at Gibson. That being said ,a walnut J15 for $1k flat used (in early 2019 at multiple retailers) will shine right alongside 2-3k acoustics from other makers. I personall own a '18 J45 Vintage and really would love a Hummingbird Vintage, but I think it's time to move to other builders....

    I can hear so you have a better humingbird, and less better J45, but thisis not a tipical . Everybody now the acoustic guitar induviduel instrument. One is good and one is nat as good.
