- It's Day 3 on the new Elizabeth line, as we continue to head east exploring each station in depth down the line. Bond Street isn't finished and not open yet meaning that next on the list is Tottenham Court Road, and my special guest for this one has travelled a long way to be here ...
Reecce and his RM_Transit channel is here: / rmtransit

Wow! My shirt came out unscathed! A purple train miracle!
Hi RM transit
You remarked about how warm it was when you reached the Northern Line. You may, or may not know, that heat dissipation is a huge problem on the subterranean parts of the underground because the surrounding earth base is no longer absorbing heat, and even with the push and pull of trains through the tunnels, plus the ventilation shafts, things can only get worse. Eventually, they're going to have to look at big chiller cabinets at particular platform hotspots. The problem will be how to keep our PM out of them. You see, he's rather fond of hiding in fridges.
The competitive factage in this one is peak.
A GEOFF AND REECE COLLAB!!!
Hope we looked after you in London Reece

These two compliment each other so well!

I've just watched Reece explaining how he survives living in Toronto without a car and here he is again!
@@marcio78 If you choose to live in a very expensive large metropolis... If you choose to live in a affordable rural area that is not the case... I live some 60 miles, 100 kilometers, from my nearest gasoline station/convenience store in the boondocks without even a paved road leading to my ranch...
I live in Victoria BC without a car with excellent public transit. I also, bike to work. I save so much money.
Also RMTransit!
@@OofusTwillip Or they were built for rail transport and the rail transport was eliminated.
I stayed in Vancouver in the winter and the weather was quite temperate with snowy intervals. But I noticed places more inland could be much colder, and Winnipeg (which I've heard called Eskimo country) was expected to go lower than minus 20 on the weather forecasts!

You guys have great chemistry. Maybe it's the Canadian-British thing, but your alternating sarcasm and seriousness offset each other in a really candid, funny way.
British and Canadians are automatically friends.
Recce's funny quotes.

"Its beautiful" X100

Turns out Reece is actually way funnier than in his serious transit videos.
Transit nerds with foot fetish
Totally not me 😂
"this is a big curve - a serious curve. "
I thoroughly enjoyed the @RMTransit collab! The internet needs more of this!
Hello DownieLive - I watch you vids and enjoy them!!!
It is great to see two of my favourite transport nerds in the same video together! Geoff & Reece rock!
Greatest transit collab of all time. More! No seriously, I would love to see those two having a pub debate. lol
What a great surprise seeing the two of you together. You complement each other very well. Should have known that Reece couldn’t resist seeing the line in person. Having him do it with Geof is like icing on the icing.
The collab we all wanted. Geoff and RM Transit🔥🔥🔥
This is so precious. Geoff, I want you to know that it means so much to the viewers and fans watching this collaboration video.
Reece is pretty much a younger (Canadian) version of yourself, with a love and passion for public transportation and other related topics.
As a young person having been a long time supporter of your channel and most recently, of Reece's channel - we find your content engaging and informative. This has helped shaped my perspectives and viewpoints on how amazing and beneficial public transportation can be.
What a great way of showcasing the current generation of Public Transit fans/advocates and introducing the world to the new generation of them.
The thing that drew me to the comment was your nickname lol
Great collab, very entertaining!
You say: Intercity-sized-trains-in-a-metro-environment. We say: S-Bahn
But I must admit: A capacious S-Bahn! 😉
We said just RER...
but yours is so a British' RER🙃
Size trains yes, but seat layout is all wrong for intercity.
HKers: East Rail Line to Admiralty
I think RER is the best comparison
Genau
Glad people are finally enjoying the use of this station, as a TW/Construction Engineer I worked on this station for 2 years, couple of months on site as well, between 2017-2020.
Avengers Endgame: We have the BEST crossovers
Geoff and Reese: HoLd My TrAiN
Can't believe i just watched a video that featured Reece without him saying "RER" even once
As Reece will confirm, no transit this big has been done in the US, since forever.
NYC but they need more circumference lines
That's because British people pay much higher taxes. American infrastructure is crumbling, because "taxes" is a dirty word there.
Our original Crossrail that spans the U.S. was completed in 1869....we're just waiting for the completion of the other rail.
@@OofusTwillip It's that and the fact that it's not highway-related. If there was a plan to increase every highway in the country, let alone a metropolitan area, by 6-lanes each way, there would be instant funding for it no questions asked.
America is NOT the UK where London has nearly half of the UK's population within a fifty miles radius...New York City our largest metro has around 6 percent of America's population within a fifty miles radius. No where near half...
Wow I just saw Reece in his house talking about how to live in North America without a car, and now he's in London again! Is Reece secretly The Flash?
Cool you met Reecce! I have seen several videos on his channel. I must see I did not explore the Elizabeth line stations that thoroughly, but it is amazing what they have built!
I loved the guy at 6:46 taking a photo of two random men laying on the floor taking temperature readings with their cheeks. I can only imagine the thoughts running through his mind. 🙂
A Canadian and a Brit walk into a station…..
As for the Vancouver winter, we laugh at the rest of Canada most of the time. Then we get 1 cm of snow and the rest of Canada laughs at us.
I'm used to Reece doing serious deep dives into transit systems on his channel RM Transit. Turns out he's actually a fun person in real life too. Beautiful collab, Geoff.
How have I never heard of Reece before? I may trade you in Geoff as my train channel. He's a delight.
Went on the Purple Today, the Platform at TCR is ridiculously long, did a run out to Greenwich via Canary Wharf then went back and did Canary Wharf to Paddington in 17 minutes. The Elizabeth Line is going to seriously change the ease of crossing the Centre of London.
Yes TCR platform is very long, the western end of the platform serves the completely new Dean street ticket hall complex so spreads the passenger load and is more convenient for access to Soho and the theatre district .
I'm planning a trip to London (and dragging my wheeled bag on public transport from Heathrow) which is how I stumbled on this video. This particular video (showing the lift: thank you!) was very helpful. Also you guys are a funny double act. You're both charming and quick-witted. Well done.
I love the guy at 6:38 in the background. lol
I love the guy in the background at 6:05 wondering why you're both laying on the floor 😂😂
How long has it taken to get Reece and Geoff to do a collaboration? I'm waiting for Reece to upload his video of what he REALLY thinks of Crossrail.
Goeff has to come to TO and review the TTC. Hear what he thinks of it.
Travelling on the quiet, smooth, fast, and cool Elizabeth line really brings home how rough, noisy and uncomfortable the existing Tube lines are!
I was just there, altho I did way more walking and busing than previously so I could really figure out and experience the place while getting healthy exercise. Anyway, the noise level on Tube trains really varies according to which generation of train you are on, from pretty noisy to fairly quiet. A pocket door rather than outside opening door train is the oldest (pre-1992) and loudest. The latest open to the next carriage ones are pretty smooth and quiet.
I remember watching the documentary of the Elizabeth line then was known as Crossrail (The Fifteen Billion Pound Railway) that the builders had to dig the tunnel at Tottenham Court Road station in a very tight area above the tunnel for the Northern line & below the escalators.
I remember that too. It was dubbed the eye of the needle!
And the station had passengers while workers watched for signs of trouble (leaking water, cracks, and stuff like that).
@@DevonPixie1991 Eye of the Needle was a great episode.
It feels so long ago that they were tunnelling
I was thinking of that exact episode while they were talking about the escalator! 5 cm margin of error for the TBM trying to get it perfect.
Great collab between the two of you. The curve really makes TCR feel unique in the core
My two favourite transit geeks from different continents collaborating?! 😲🤩

I love the RUclips railway geek multiverse ❤️
I'm trying to think of some Avengers End Game Marvel pun linked with travel trains or the tube...coming up with nothing

Lovely video, great collab, Reece is great!
Absolutely loving this groups of reviews, wish I could just visit the UK and ride this line because of your coverage. Geoff they should pay you big time for this coverage. Great guest and works so well with you so the banter was entertaining and informative. I loved the 'monotonous' comment :D INTERCITY TRAINS IN A METRO ENVIRONMENT !! Your enthusiasm for this new line is infectious.
That was wonderful; you're quite a pair! (I love Reece's channel also.)
The problem with the Purple Line Stations with PEDs is you don't get bin bags blowing in the breeze!
At 09:02 those tunnels look like a Stanley Kubrick Sci-Fi set! That cold lighting, the curved walls & the cladding. It could be a lunar colony except the gravity is six times to strong.

Can we expect a future guest appearance by the Tim Traveller? Geoff traveled to France a few months ago to visit with him, so I hope Tim makes the return visit!
"I'm not that Canadian, Geoff." I spit out my beer. 🤣🤣
Should ve said Quebecois. Then Geoof wouldve had to do some fun research.
He's from Vancouer, and the westernmost concentration of French Canadians is in Manitoba, 2000km away. Although all Canadians are technically required to study French in school, those in Western Canada typically don't pay any attention because they know they're never ever going to use it. Hence why he was kind of hesitant to answer, he probably had several years of French classes, but didn't actually learn anything.
I'm from Toronto and I do speak French fluently, and about half of my friends can speak French at at least a basic conversational level (though they never actually need to).
@@OntarioTrafficMan fun fact, I'm quarter Quebecois, can speak French, and have lived in Quebec my whole life😂😂
@@chrissymessytransit don't get me started on bill 96
In Toronto, French is the #12th spoken language
Gee, if only chicago didn’t kill all the old Interurban lines we could have had something like crossrail
I wonder if Geoff is actually going every day, or if he has filmed this all in one day? Either way, this is very impressive!
Also I miss the cuts whenever you say "Purple Train" to when you sang, but I understand that's probably difficult to edit
@@marengtech313 haha, probably - it would still make me laugh though
PURPLE TRAIN, PURPLE TRAAAAIN
I wouldn't say difficult, but probably time consuming
I found it a little grating in the last video
The people have spoken, it seems we've all had enough of the song haha!
Maybe Geoff has had enough too!
At least I can rewatch the first video if I wanted to see more jump cuts.
PURPLE TRAI- Ok fine I'll stop :)
6:37 love how the guy took a picture thinking, 'these weirdos are placing their cheeks on the floor' xD
Probably texting BTP on 6106 to report a couple of inebriates passed out in the station. See it, say it, sort it.
it's like Star Trek, they're in the GeoffReece tube.
Hullo Reese! Great to have a Canadian on a UK RUclips channel!
If it's not the tube, then why aren't there toilets in canary wharf station??
The commute on EL from Reading to canary wharf is approx 1 hour 20 mins, without toilets in the train..and yet TFL did not consider it necessary to construct toilets for commuters in CW station 🙄
You'll need to change to Canary Wharf Jubilee Line and you'll find toilets to the left of the down escalator, but they'll probably be shut. Despair not though, as you can go one stop to North Greenwich and you'll find loos there - shut. You have not been charged for this call.
There are toilets in the "Crossrail Place" building above ground
I can accept there not being toilets on the trains, but the lack of them in many of the stations just feels so wrong...
Reece and Geoff in the same video. That's special
Now they just need to build a new tube line to take you between different parts of Tottenham Court Station. Ditto Bank. Maybe Heathrow Travel Pods could be extended?
I just wish that Amsterdam had harder ground than it has lol, we’d have a lot more interesting metros
"there's a negative 1 button. Let's press it" and Reece was never seen or heard from again...
I’m so glad Geoff agrees with me that the British really overstate how much it rains here. It’s really not that bad
I am with Reece, I won't ever call it the E word either. It's Crossrail all the way for me.
Xaxaxa I would call it E
TOP 10 (TRANSIT) ANIME CROSSOVERS
As someone who lives just outside of Toronto and is VERY familiar with our subway, I can totally understand why Reece loved the new line and that station. The trains and stations in London are so impressive, Geoff - they make our subway look poor by comparison!
Loved the video - keep up the great work!
This is brilliant collaboration
You have so much in common but Reece is his own man despite this being your video
Also nice to see the New World vs Old World contrast in the way you both speak, move, act and dress.
You both look great and neither trying to imitate the other....
@@geofftech2 If it's anything like this collaboration that would be brilliant.
Funny that. The last video I watched of RMTransit was on the Elizabeth Line. Never thought I'd see both these two in this series!
As a Canadian who watches RM, this was quite a interesting collab to watch.
I really Like Tottenham Court road station it's easy to access and it's only 2 stops away on the Northan Line to Charing Cross for outta City trains.
I'm certainly surprised that you didn't do a bin shot I know you love these and it's a missed opportunity.
The curved part of the platform is also quite unique.
Amazing vid as always Geoff.
I travelled on it earlier... It's so clean. It's so odd experiencing what 'new tube smell' is.
Well that was fun, big love for Reece, cracking guest.
It sounds like there's a word missing before "service" in the automatic PA announcements for the train ( 08:50 ) . Someone else refusing to use the E word?
good point. with the railways they usually say southern service or south-eastern service or south-western service or scotrail service or greater anglia service etc.
It looks like the Death Star (Star Wars) only with trains!!!!
At least the Canadian said bell at the end of the video, not bell end!!
Crossrail 2 is I think calling at Tottenham Court Road ,I wonder if provision has been built into the station to save disruption if and when it’s built similar to the station boxes they built at Blackfriars when the then fleet line was going there ,intercity style trains in a metro environment I like that ,seems to be settling in well ,😊👍🏻
It could make TCR even more massive if they build it on the same scale as this.
@@Pesmog imagine ,it would have to go deep too
So with Reece making an appearance on Geoff's channel making videos on the CrossLizPurple Train, will Geoff do the same for Reece coming to Toronto when Line 5 opens this year? Or maybe when the Ontario Line is finished in 2030?
Or maybe the REM in Montréal?
i doubt it. Hes made many colabs with youtubers from other citys but never gone to them for a vid
Must be very exciting for the Canuks - 'cos they only have one road and one railway line - both very long.....
This is why I love when public infrastructure opens. For the public it's a new thing to have pride in, especially when this impressive. The engineering is amazing on this line.
How cool that Reece knows what a lift is as opposed to an elevator.
I love how you asked a Canadian how many "miles" he'd travelled. How would he know? We're on the metric system! :) (RMTransit makes a point later in the video to use the word "kilometers", because he's a good Canuck boy :) )
UK seems to be uniquely ambidextrous with metric/English. They have kilometers and buy petrol in litres, and then talk about miles per gallon. And their pints and gallons don't even match ours in the US.
@@emjayay Local Brit here, can confirm our measurements are an absolute mess! I've seen metres take precedence on signs over yards but miles over kilometres...
I love that the train indicator signs are in Johnston Sans. I don't quite know why I love that so much.
Goeff, when the tube was constructed, it was cool down there like it is today on cross rail. But the breaks on the tube trains deposit heat down there. Over the decades, this literally heats the earth around the tubes and it only dissipates very slowly. So the tube warms up.
I don't know if cross rail will get warm like the tube. It depends on how much cooling they have built down there. But it might very well get quite a bit warmer over time.

Lucky me I'm coming back from Pakistan on 8th June and I will take the new Elizabeth line to home

LOVED this collab. Much love from Toronto ❤Can't wait to experience Crossrail for myself.
Is he really Canadian though? 12 minute video, and not a single apology from him.
I've noticed that elevators outside fare zones lead to ticket levels, then other elevators within fare zones lead to platforms. Eg. Athens Metro Syntagma Square Station
I wouldn't put my face down on any subway platform. All I can picture is people spitting all over it and the bums and drunks peeing on it.
not yet hence why they did it
@@offichannelnurnberg5894 I still wouldn't do it.
I'm here for the guy sneakily taking a photo of you when you're both lying on the ground talking to the camera :D
Really enjoying this mini series. Reece is a bit of legend isn’t he? I might have to subscribe just to gain knowledge of metro systems I’ll never use!
This is a totally amazing Station with fantastic rolling stock. Sometime in the future I will take a trip on Crossrail.
But for now I must settle for my scenic Seaford to Brighton line journey on a 45 year old Class 313 Train.
06:42 - looks like you and Reece confused that guy behind!
Gosh Reece really comes from a country with so little sunshine over the year!
Nice to see two youtubers I enjoy working together. I live in a city about 2 hours west of Toronto where we have a Light Rail system called ION. Reece has covered that on his channel. Cheers to you Geoff and Reece!
You know for that its not vague enough, i know thats waterloo.
wouldn't purple bin bags be great?
The chemistry is really good between Geoff and Reece. I definitely dig the collab
Wow, all these RUclipsrs exist in the same universe
Even though the new Elizabeth line and platforms are state of the art, faster and the trains will be more efficient and have a higher capacity than the tube will, there is still something more magical about the traditional london underground red trains and the small cavernous platforms, it feels more part of the experience of London than the new Elizabeth line stations and trains, although I can definately see the benefit of crossrail, at least the central line wont be as packed anymore and I wont feel like a sardine in a can of John West like I did before when I lived in London.
Yes, the little round trains and little round platform areas and little round tubes you walk through create a special London world. Combined with sprung, padded and upholstered seats in different patterns, with armrests. It's unique.
Just wait a few decades and it won't be as cold as now.
People and especially train brakes warm up the tunnels and stations.
That's why London's, Paris' and New York's subways feel like they're heated.
Hi rmtransit,your amazing!
Pleasantly surprised to see RM Transit!! Great crossover!!
You guys are hilarious! I certainly hope this is not your last collaboration!
Reece has the knowledge of Public transportaion in North America (Mostly Canada) like you do in the UK and europe.
