- Tori Baird is an avid canoeist and backcountry adventurer who had tripped on countless remote wilderness rivers across Canada (East Natashquan in Northern Quebec, the Porcupine River in Northern Saskatchewan, the Mountain River in the Northwest Territories - to name a few). She has also completed a 100 mile, 8 day backpacking trip through the Rockies from Jasper to Grand Cache.
Tori is the founder of Paddle Like A Girl program, which is a workshop that teaches women to go off on their own canoe trips. Her goal is to instil confidence in the participants to start planning and executing their own backcountry journeys. The workshops cover all the basics of backcountry canoeing, from trip planning and map reading to meal prep, waterproofing gear and fire lighting, but the main focus is on paddling skills.
Tori has contributed to Outpost Magazine, Explore Magazine, has been a guest on several podcasts, and was featured in Export Development Canada’s profile of Nova Craft Canoe commercial in 2019.
She’s also a mom; her son Wesley is now 3 years old and has tagged along with her on several interior trips. Her husband, Jim, is an outdoor film maker, writer and was the winner of History’s Alone show - season 4.

@ 8 minutes, a woman who has a 40# backpack with a toddler strapped to her back, while helping her hubby pull a stuck trailer from 4 foot of packed snow is calling another one a 'pretty bad a$$. Wow girl, you are right up there with them in my book.

Enjoyed the interview with Tori very much. She is so honest and down to earth. Love seeing her presence in Jim’s utube videos and admire her love, resilience and toughness in handling Wesley. Yes, she underestimate herself. From the videos that I followed, I can see that she is intelligent and has great skills in handling problems and tight positions. She is a wonderful mother and I love to see Wesley joining the trips outdoors.

As someone who spent my first four birthdays in the backcountry and raised two godkids on the trail, I love that Tori is taking her son out there. I have a hypothesis that the varied surroundings and sensory inputs are beneficial in early child development and cognition. That's awesome enough for a baseline child - but I bet it's especially helpful for a kid with greater developmental needs.

I'm guessing that the higher the water in the lake, the higher the water in the river as more water will be flowing over the dam??

Tori is an amazing girl not only did she whether the storm with Jim, but I’ve watched shows where she takes her twokids camping, in the freezing cold in Canada. It’s a wonderful life. I envy it immensely.

I have finally begun solo canoeing. Friends whose fears blur their view, call me crazy. But as soon as I leave the shore in sun or rain, calm or wind, my smile never leaves the entire trip. So I guess now my next challenge is do make better videos. I certainly want to help other ladies, no matter the age, to get out there and see that the wilderness in not wild but our garden, beautiful and rejuvenating.

Such a great interview with an amazing person. Someone who constantly underestimates herself and thinks everything is luck. It isn't luck, you can tell that Tori has worked for everything. Hard work wins over luck every time. I love the fact that Tori and Jim take Wesley along with them! Such a great inspiration for other families that you can take your kids just about anywhere!

As a 50+ y/o female, I LOVE going out solo. I'm a backpacker tho rather than paddler, an old shoulder injury from a trip on Opeongo a couple decades ago finished my canoe tripping!
It's great to see Tori inspiring and teaching women to get out there and live the adventure. And to see Tori and Jim take their baby out to the backcountry, so he doesn't suffer the terrible effects of Nature Deficit Disorder, as so many kids do these days. Good on ya! Did you see the video on Chris Prouse's channel when she and Julia took their little guy out and they had a bear ramble up to the campsite? Julia is FIERCE! She's SuperMom!

Just came across this video Have to Love watching Jim and Tori when their out in the Wilderness, Love seeing little Wesley join them as well, I've been watching Jim's videos for a while . To me they seem very down to earth folks awesome parents as well. Yup Tori was basically thrown into the outdoor adventures and has done wonderful, What an exciting life it would be Nice they have the same interest. Was awesome to see Buck, sure miss him. what an awesome interview have to love Tori and Jim. yes they are real people .
