We were making dinner and my wife noticed the neighbor's yard on fire. I went over and cleared their house of people. then I hit it with my fire extinguisher. It started to melt the vinyl siding on the home. It was 'cold' ashes from their wood burning stove. The neighbor thought it was fine just to dump them by the garbage cans. Now she has a metal ash can for the ashes. Uncle Mud. Good reminder to the viewers to care for those 'cold' ashes.
Thank you. We watched our brave local fire fighters trying to decide how to rush in to look for our neighbor after his ash bucket caught the house on fire. Fortunately he had left for the evening and we were able to raise him on his cell phone before anyone risked their lives. Ash buckets can't be trusted inside. Even metal ones.
i ordered it custom cut on Ebay. Call around glass cutters near you first though prices have gone way up on ebay. Don't go thin on the glass it will rattle.
The Gen 3 I have heard is much bigger and just might have an ash tray. I keep a metal dust pan right under the cleanout door for easy disposal of the ashes.
Uncle Mud, what kinda pipe do I need to run the exhaust out of my liberator out a basement window and piped up the side of the house. I went to the big box store today about it, was confused, and I want to avoid costly mistakes. Thanks.
Dylan, Thank you for watching. A basement can be tricky. You should consult your local code office for exact requirements in your area. You will certainly need a triple wall pipe that goes from the Liberator up past the ridge of your house by at least two feet and a through-the-wall connector like this, though it may not fit through a window opening without editing the window frame. If you have a spare chimney flue down there you can line it with a stainless steel flexiliner for a safer cheaper nicer looking install. www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/duraplus-6-in-triple-wall-pipe-through-the-wall-stove-chimney-kit
Here's the build video for this Rocket Mass Heater. The Liberator currently plugged into it was purchased here rocketmassheater.com/recommends/unclemud/ My other Rocket Mass Heater videos are here ruclips.net/p/PL9A0Ic1oNN__VDYADwKpBmD9UklYIgbhi thank you for watching.
The Liberator is about 150 lbs and my thermal mass bench is about half a ton. If it won't collapse your floor or set it on fire shoot for a much bigger mass bench, like 3 to 5 tons.
Hey Uncle thanks man you got back to me, for your response on another video of yours. I have a couple of questions. How big is your exhaust pipe on the rocket outlet? 5-6 inch? and how thick is the metal top brother? (Thank you in advance)
6". The top is either 1/8" thick like the rest of it or 3/16" thick like all the reinforced edges. I'm checking with a tape measure and I'm not sure from where I can measure.
Uncle : Thanks Man so appreciated. I have lots of metals and time with a mig welder and full bottles of gas. Its a no brainer this winter to i truly am gratified. Thank you !
Thank you for watching. The Liberator is a around $2999 with the pellet feeder at rocketheater.com if you put in the code unclemud you will get free shipping.
None if I am paying attention and put the sticks in right so they don't block the throat of the fire. The small insulated chimney in the middle of the Rocket heater drafts (sucks) so hard on the fire that the smoke is pulled sideways into the heater and burned up.
The web pages for the Liberator 2 are not functioning to place an order. I see no phone number and the contact page says 'error.' Have they stopped producing the Liberator or are they out of business?
@@UncleMud Thank you so much!! There should be a notice placed on their web site to tell potential customers that stoves are on backorder. I was thinking that they're out of business and that I should get a stove from somewhere else! Maybe I should wait as the Liberator 2 is the heater I prefer ? ? ?

We use dry hardwood, split. On very cold days, like below zero Fahrenheit, we might go through two boxes of wood in a 24-hour day. On a warmer day, like 30s-40s, maybe up to a box. Measured in banana boxes. House is about 1700 square foot. Your home size, insulation, wood quality, and so forth are all factors.
It will burn for about half an hour before needing another feeding. The thermal mass bench stores heat and releases it slowly overnight so we don't need to feed it all night or damp it down to still wake up to the house being around 60 degrees (f).
@@butterflysrage the Gamera Tiny and the Liberator are similar in heat output. The Gamera 7 produces about 3 times as much heat. The Gamera is more durable and I like it better but the Liberator has a pellet feeder and outdoor intake and US EPA and UL certifications and the Gamera does not.
I heat my house in Cleveland Ohio for $100 per year with this thing. My propane bill used to be $1000 some months. You're going to have to try harder than that to find something negative to say that fits my personal experience. Cheers.

A house in NJ burned down around Christmas time some years ago caused by not taking the cold ash out, there was only one survivor. Heart breaking.
Yes, fire will bite you. Even if you think it is dead it might be only sleeping.
I've got a perfect circle burn mark from where I put the ash bucket down on my wood porch.
I'm glad you are okay. Those things are dangerous. Thank you for watching.
Great advise!

How does the top come off the rocket stove? How is it fastened down? Thanks
Like the way you made the bench. Do you have video on how you made the bench? All ash goes out side.!

What type of material do you in the bench?
cob--sandy clay and straw.
Where did you get the handle for the feed tube lid? I'd like to buy some and try it, that looks like an awesome upgrade to the ball knob!
