- Just in time for TAMPOPO's run at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, we’re serving up this exclusive interview with legendary restaurateur Alice Waters and her former Chez Panisse colleague Sam White, co-owner of the Ramen Shop in Oakland, California, who sat down with us to chat about their love affair with TAMPOPO and the indelible mark it has made on their approach to cooking.
The guy at the beginning sounds like LoganToxic
These people totally missed the point of the movie. It is only about the search for the perfect bowl of ramen in an ironic sense. Ramen is a dish considered lowbrow, and the comedy is in the juxtaposition of the lowbrow with the search for perfection. I think it is great that they love the movie, and I think it is great that they are inspired by the movie, but they should recognize that any foodie inspiration they might get is in spite of the message of the movie. Case in point, after all the work and all the work she does, and she still gets beat by the dickish yakuza (I think his name was Pisken) tossing one off.
Awesome! Once of my favorite movies.
And then Criterion is going to release Tampopo on blu ray region 1. Right? Please?
Janus is touring it now and Criterion is selling the poster in their shop. So this is pretty much guaranteed.
Wonderful. Thank you.

YEAH man! I preordered my copy already. Criterion is the best.
I agree. I have 32 Criterion films (the goal is 300+). Three months from now during the BN sale, Tampopo will be mine, with three chaplin films, three Ray films, and almodovar and berlanga. No one can go wrong with Criterion!
Tampopo!
April 25th is the big day that TAMPOPO will be released!
Arigato Gozaimasu Juzo Itami!
4:30 That racket style one is yummy! Practice is also fun. That's do that with weted towel! LOL
Where do I get this ramen? Is it at Chez Panisse or somewhere else?
Oh, please please please tell me that this film will be getting a Criterion Edition!
It did. A new remaster, it's on Blu-Ray.
