Much Sprinter Weld - Amber 2.0: Ep.8

- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- As the rebuild continues we start tackling welding, and I have an amazing welder on hand, Ady, to start adding some structure into the van.
There's a bit more than I was intending, as is the way with welding, but how bad can it get?

mercedes should give you some sponsership, you are proof that thier vans never die they just need some love from time to time, great job so far
What an amazing journey will an extreme emotional roller coaster.... can't wait to see the old girl move again....
Making a list, keeping it visible and striking off things that have been completed has always been a really useful thing for me when I have large jobs - gives motivation to see things completed, even more so when the balance of done vs left to do tips more to the done side, and, when you get fuzzy because it feels overwhelming, you can just pick off the list without needing to think “what next” - awesome job, end looks in sight 👊🏻
My God, your a legend or a fool? I think legend as Amber deserves a new lease of life from saving lives to saving her! 👍
The sense of accomplishment when you finally finish this will be amazing.
Lance is the 'man' still the main reason for watching :)
I am learning much through your perseverance C.J. (engines, welding, home filming, editing, and such) that I would never come in contact with at this time of my life. Thank you so much for your videos. Emma's wound - of which I am commiserate - shows a gentle, entry level, "first blood experience", using fast machinery, please be gentle on yourselves. Sending love light and best wishes for becoming roadworthy again.
4:00 - ♩🎶 best soundtrack ever. And royalty-free, to boot. ♬
GREAT STUFF CJ - top welder THAT BLOKE!! (word of caution with that type of angle gringer wire brush WEAR A LEATHER APRON - they can suddenyl 'BITE' and kick back and I was only wearing a T shirt! The shirt LUCKILY wrapped aroundthe brush and stopped the motor BUT I now have a 4 inch scar across my stomach it nearly ripped ME open - take care bud!!) Covering up all the 'cant miss me yellow' GREAT IDEA!!
I got my glove caught up in I wire wheel. Wasn’t great. Imagine sanding the back of your hand then immediately having a grease/rust tattoo.
You have taken on a monster task with the parts swap. Full marks for getting stuck in and keeping at it. Glad you found a top bloke for the welding and fabbing. All this is second nature to me in the workplace but unfortunately I have been struggling with long covid for almost five months now which has meant that I have been unable to work. Iam self employed and can't get any. Financial help which has hit hard. That said I have tried to get some time on my Chevy Ambo project which has helped keep me sane-ish. Sold my bike to keep the bills paid but took some of the money to buy the electrics for the ambulance just to keep the positivity flowing. Watching your toils has kept me going when all seema lost so hopefully if all goes to plan I will be getting away in the old girl this spring even if it isn't finished and looks like a dairy cow with its spot primed repairs.
Hi CJ. Good to see things progressing. Yes, those two ‘gold things’ are wire wound resistors. If there are one for each side then you need to be aiming for 3.5-4.0 ohms each based on ohms law. If you have 2x21W front and rear indicator bulbs then a 5W repeater you get 47W which gives a current draw of around 3.9A at 13.2V and a resistance of 3.7ohms. Hope that helps. 10W resistors should be fine with LEDs but go higher for belt and braces. Have fun 🤩
You can also buy a led rated flasher unit and do away with load resistors
Hiya mate well without doubt one of the best channels I watch on You Tube from your travels and back to the BIG Rebuild ..it’s certainly being an emotional journey. It won’t be long now before you are back on the road 👍well done mate just fantastic and of course a special mention to your best mate he’s been there every step ….Lance you are a star 👍
You may find the cause of the van running hot before was a worn viscous fan coupling, causing the fan to not spin fast enough
thanks for all the effort your putting in to the filming of this as well has working amazingly hard on a job i really dont think majority of people could even dream of doing ,be great to eventually see you Emma and lance sitting in the sun on top of your vans
It's defo getting there guys. Prop shaft people total geezers getting u sorted.
As for yr man with his welding well only one word .
LEGEND.
Cracking work mate. That welder is amazing fair play was nice to meet him at the meet for few beers too.
👍🏻🏴👍🏻
Fantastic progress C.J..your perseverance paid off..That Welder did a Fantastic job...Peace ✌and happiness to you 😍 🇨🇮
not much moor then well done fella great job
This is absolutely amazing. I don’t know how you have done it even though I have watched every video. You are a genius
Really taking shape now..👌
Hi mate wow the vans looking great can’t wait to see it finished Steve b 🇬🇧 👍
Great to have a welder /fabricator come and give you a hand someone like him is fantastic.
The joys of a T1N 😃
By the time you finish with that van it will be like new again !! Great job CJ ! looking forward to the next update.
Amazing amber 👍👍👍👍
Im loving this rebuild you got me on edge of my seat every episode :-)
I’m so impressed CJ. I just replaced the air, cabin, fuel filter on my T5 and nearly had a nervous breakdown. You are an oily spanner badass and the content is interesting too. I turned off the dog walk as my working cocker doesn’t like me looking at other dogs. Hi to Emma - van looks great.
Can't want to see you back in Portugal again!
Coming on mate
That girl’s got impeccable timing! You’re getting there at last, welding is something I have done lots of on cars, mainly old Landys and it takes skill and time to get it right - use Waxoyle very soon afterwards to give long life.
Just been reading about a Russian guy with 30 confirmed tanks destroyed - worst mechanic they ever had apparently!
Great video as usual good to see you progressing so well and you can almost see the little light at the end of that long tunnel, just think when it’s done, HOW PROUD YOU WILL FEEL 👍👍
Your weekly progress and insane amount of perseverance makes me so happy every week. I can’t wait to see you back on the road again buddy.
Gave me VW Flash Backs..AH the Early 80's..
Grand job mate
CJ, The your home will be brand new soon, keep up the great work dude 🙂
greetings from Ireland well done CJ looking great
Cracking video... aidy seems like a true metal magician 🎩 👌
Hi c.j great video nearly there with possibly new van peace☮️
Are you sure you didn’t switch off the camera and replace Amber with a brand new van? Looking amazing. I got why you kept her, but I can now SEE why. Well done matey
Nice work there. We all need an Adey on hand if we have a transit or a sprinter!
Rocking along nicely cj. Your van is your home so you've got to make sure it's future proof. Nice job by the welder aidy. Looking forward to the next one👍👍👍
Been watching you since day 1 And from past experience in doing motors i take my hat off to you. All you need now is you and emz in Portugal with a large bottle of whisky. And if i am down that way i will supply it free of charge ( you deserve it)
Yep, the gold things are resistors, best way round it is to swap out the led bulbs you have for canbus friendly ones ( I have autobeam ones in my Mondeo) OR wire another ordinary bulb in series with the indicator and just stick it somewhere out of site
looking great dude :D cant wait to see her back on the road
I feel your pain here, I've got an LDV convoy which is also famed for rust, I brought the van because i like it, not because it was cheap, or I'm insane la la la, whatever. Only the problem with LDV's is the factory went bust in 2009 and as a result, there are no repair pannels available at all, so everything needed to be fabricated from scratch, I'm talking steps, cab floor, a bit of the sill, but not much, all for wheel arches needed attention and in the engine bay too... and the floor in the back, rear cross member, chassis rails and the rain gutters... and the scuttle panel... there was many a time that I thought about throwing in the towel, and the six-month stint of welding damn near ruined me, and I was only watching.
£3000 later I've now got the cleanest LDV convoy I've ever seen, and better still it's solid, with no filler or fibreglass anywhere in it at all. i love my van to bits and watching your shenanigans really kept my morale up during the whole situation.
good vid cj keep up the good vid thanks lee
Looking great CJ.
It will be nice to see you guys back on your land…. 🌀💚🌀
Another great team effort. The thought of the wiring loom alone melts my head, She is looking good!
Can't wait to see you guys back on the road and the Portugal continuation 😊
Great job CJ and a great vlog again
You should be so proud of yourself CJ what an amazing job you have done know folks have helped but how you have stuck with it . You and Emma make a great team. Looking forward to seeing you both driving off on an adventure.
I will be fitting a winch to mine soon I think. Been stuck too many times now! Im going to fit it to the back as it looks like the easiest place to bolt it securely.
Honestly save the labour for turkey. Its supposed to be really cheap out there and also good quality craftsmanship.
Good video as always! Maybe see you out in eastern europe soon!
Hi underneath the van you should get it spray with lying x
Cj aye ur doin fine.
Every new age traveller in 90s that had an ambulance, never ran......all were a bag o shit by the time they get to you
Well done for helping Lance , they couldn't do it without you buddy
Woof woof Lance
Awesome bud 👍🏻
Nice progress 😎
Good work. Great to see the progress you are making. I’m sure there will be more hiccups but the end of the rebuild is in sight. I for one can’t wait to see you back on the road and adventuring abroad.
Hey mate. Yea those gold boxes are resistors, you can simply add more in series to slow the flash rate but their not the best solution.theor another thing to go wrong, waist power in heat and defeat the pros of leds lower power consumption.
You can get LED compatable flasher cans ( flasher relay, or whatever its called over there) that has a fixed flash rate regardless of what current is drawn through it. Does away with all those gold resistors.
On another note, from someone who once put a 2dr manual wiring into a 4dr automatic (had a whole seperate computer(+wiring) just to run the gearbox. Both cars also had different engines and options etc etc. And has a background in electronics and electrical.
Youve done a brilliant job, be proud. Its a huge undertaking on a job you never more than 80% sure its even possible. Then add in its your home and if you cant pull it of your so far up effluent creek without propulsion youd be beached in the desert lol.
Youve shown serious grit mate. Be bloody proud the day you drive her out that shed!!!
Great to catch up with you, roll on the summer when it’s sunny, warm and you get back on the road off on adventures 😊
The OM612s had twin cooling fans, maybe a good time to double up with southern European climate in mind?
Simply great!🙂
Another great vid. Thanks so much.
If you get yourself an easy bleed. This removes the need for a second person and uses pressure from your tyres rather than the suction pump you were using. It's a much faster and more effective way to do it
She's looking awesome dude getting there mate 👍 top work buy the fabricator
My favourite channel
Great watching Ash, huge progress to a mega project for anyone. Winch another day.
Fascinating vlog mate. Well done! Look forward to the next. 👌
You'll get there CJ!
BRILLIANT video's get Amber back on the road.
You+Emma can achieve your dreams.,👍
Isn't there a portable winch which hooks onto the towing eye, all you need is a power feed, just an idea, great following your epic progress, can't wait to see you on the road again.
Beaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauty, mate. Can't wait.
Really starting to take shape now CJ, you should be well proud of yourself for what you have achieved
I used to do welding and always found what you can see is about 20% of what you end up having to weld
Well done to the welder. What a great guy 👍🏼
You trooper, great video, love the beats dude
In regards to the prob I had the same problem with an old car I have. I got a machining company to make up something to bolt on the end of the shaft rather than lengthening the shaft itself. It cost me 35 quid and has been brilliant. I know this doesn't help now but hopefully it will help someone in the future
Great to see you closing in on the finish, just in time for some Spring weather...
Woww what a mission its really starting ro come together now CJ love you videos. There is lots of rust treatment and repair. But its going to be worth it when done it will give you many more years to keep exploring. The welder was amazing fantastic guy. Stay safe keep up the great work. and see you on the next video, michael notts 👍
much love, thanks for the vids makes my day
great video CJ I've been following Project Amber 2.0 from the start the end is in sight.
You're doing a great job as well as making great videos!!.
I have actually really enjoyed watching your van rebuild videos. Nice one CJ. Alas you are totally bonkers doing all that yourself! Me... At 43 years old, changing a flat tyre is enough!
Looking more like Amber every episode mate. Loving the series 👌🏻
It’s traditional to anoint every job like that with Engineer’s Red!
yes... resistors 👍
Hi CJ, Hopefully in real time the van is done and back on the road 🤞🏻(~2 months from this being filmed).
With the recent flooding in QLD It made me think about your land in Portugal and made me wonder if the reason for the no permanent dwelling was because it could be affected by flooding? I hope not but it might be worth checking.
awesome 👌
Absolutely incredible progress, my dear CJ! 😊
All love and best wishes to you all, Claire, Berlin 😘😘😘
I see she’s passed her MOT but with quite a lot of advisories
trust me, thats not lot of advisories!!! just brake pipes & discs. i'd call that a result. Good job CJ
At a guess it's been undersealed to death that's whats all over the brake lines.
Nice one for making all the effort to make great videos. Wishing you all every happiness with everything. ☺
What an absolute legend!
Nice one! It’s getting there! Well done so far!
Dunno if it’s already been said the resistors are to stop you getting a bulb out light on the dash when using Led bulbs,
Great
looking good guys be worth it in the end..
Great progress CJ.
Don't forget to paste some lock tight on those propshaft bolts, I learned out the hard way in my old transit towtruck going up a hill, the prop came loose cut trough the brake lines fuel and handbrake cable and I had no gears to drop down because I had no prop shaft, I haven't Rebuilt it or driven it since, but Emma could help you with the lock tight she is a great camper building lady, God bless you guys keep safe.thanks for the great videos,
LETS GO BRANDON
I never use Locktite on anything especially serviceable items
A pro paint job or wrap after all that welding compered the DIY roller.
