- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- We delve under the van and unveil some horrors with the chassis.
Where the old air suspension sat was in a much worse state that originally thought, so bad infact that if I knew, none of this project would have gone ahead.
She's like the titanic!

Amber just refuses to die, long live Amber
You're sheer determination and can do attitude is quite something. Good Luck with finishing everything off
Take some deep breaths CJ, it's nearly over. And so uplifting to have people around you to help with various tasks along the way.
Bilt hamber Brilliant stuff
That ambulance has saved so many life's it was only right that you saved it.... well done for all your hard work... 🤘🤙👊👍💚🙏🙌
I would recommend Lanoguard as an under seal it’s a natural product made from lanolin, you can spray it on with a normal hand sprayer, can be sprayed on rubber bushes etc without doing harm 👍👍👍👍
CJ I actually commend you on your patience and perseverance. Well done you. You have done an amazing job xxx
The good old, down the rabbit hole moments are terrible. I found this with my Suzuki Jimny offroader. I've ended up putting a whole new front end on it just because I found a small rust patch. Not to mention the "oh, while I'm here jobs" big respect for keeping going with it. Weaker people would of called it quits.
As always ...loads of respect for your enduring determination to see it all through!!
How did you comment 8 days ago..
Great video CJ amber 2.0 is starting to look good .
With the end in sight there could only ever be one fly in the ointment…you’ve developed a rather unique love hate relationship with that chuffin gearbox. Cannot wait to see..hear the next exciting episode as new words will inevitably be made with your usual passionate flair. Stick with it cap’n.
Patience is a virtue and you've got tonnes of it. The ending was looking good till the gearbox issue. But you've broke the back of the job and you can see the end. Great video. Keep calm and motivated.👍👍👍
Spoiler alert 😭
Go for POR 15 paint then Dinitrol inside the chassis and outside too. They supply both.
Use ACF50 on everything that it can reach !
Your patience astounds most of us, but it's absolutely wonderful to see the project nearing completion, it's a shame that Sprinters and Vitos (Vitae?) dissolve quicker than a Lancia in a salt bath. Excellent video again as always.
That jack looks rather familiar......35T for jacking up bridges.....Bailey/LSB and MGB.........
Dinitol 4941 is my underbody protector of choice for my sprinter. It’s black, dries so isn’t sticky like waxoyl and has some self curing properties. Assuming use have compressed air, buy their application gun and use the one litre canisters
Be thankful Amber is a 4.6t variant - the chassis rails are fifty percent thicker than a 3.5t. Dinitrol chassis wax lasts pretty well, Waxoyl is pants.
The “pocket thing” on the centre dash panel was designed to take the Webasto 1531 seven day timer.
Bilt Hamber always worked for me!
This is why chassis paint should be used. I recommend Corroless Anti Rust paint.
Raptor bed liner is meant to be spot on
Dinitrol under body, several different products for in cavity and outer chassis. Or Buzzweld
Balls like King Kong you have to take on a job of this magnitude I salute you . 👊🏻
They also have a spray that comes with a long hose and applicator, and it goes into the chassis. It prevents it rusting from the inside.
Ideally you want to get all the muck and crud off, then prime and paint then waxoil.
On our minis we use gravitex stone guard so that needs primer, then apply the Gravitex, then 2 coats of paint over the top, then if you really wanted you can waxoil it too lol
Keep chipping away, you’ll all but there mate.
The fooking flywheel I knew when you put it back together but saud nothing 😂😂😂😂😂
CJ, Amber is and will be again your home. Consider that a house needs maintenance, sometimes very expensive, live your dream, and, your dream is about to set you free once again. Minor if worrying set backs, keep looking forwards.
Hello from the Netherlands and thanks for the video
Lanoguard is a great underseal. Lots of us in Defender land use it and swear by it. Really clean and easy to apply nowhere near as messy as waxyoil Just clean and brush chassis then spray it on, get the spray gun with the extra long tube to poke inside the chassis holes too.
Acf 50 it's an anti-corrosion spray used for planes and everything I've used it on my bikes for like 5 years makes everything look shinny new and clean and protects it from rust getting worse or even starting and also helps rain run off
I can’t think of a more unsuitable product. Acf50 will just wash off or attract dirt, depending where it is. I have used it on my bikes for a decade but would never use it for this job.
Wow this is a great video…
We’re going on a 7 hour car trip…+ 4 hours on a ferry with an overnight stay before arriving at final destination with a 2year old and 4 year old.
They travel great so no worries there…but a bag of trick like this would be great.
So thoughtful of you about the body spray….scents like that make me sick….
Brilliant video,I’m going to watch this again and again and get some more little bags 👍🇬🇧
Oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh. It may not be intentional content but I will be watching next week. Blessings on your unexpected delay may it soon pass.
Much as I dislike petty criticism, I can't resist.
The rust is on the frame.
The chassis is the body of the vehicle.
Looks solid now, im chuffed for you
Great progress done. Try Lanoguard as it drys clear and doesn’t wash off. Check out their website.
Truck bed liner is good for underneath it’s just like a heavy duty textured paint and it will spray on nice and easy
Hello, if you look at Mustie1 channel here ,he uses a mixture of chainsaw chain oil and something else . It acquires a layer of dirt on its surface that stops bad stuff getting through but remains stuck to the chassis. . It needs a refresh every 2 years or so but it seems to work for Mustie
There may be a newer Waxoyl product I don't know about but the only one I was aware of is for internal chassis use. in the sealed box sections, and places such as inside the A and B pillars. You used to have to drill them and apply with a pressure fed applicator, then pop in yellow plastic sealing bungs. It never set hard so wasn't for anywhere battered by road muck and rain.
If it's still available look for Tetrosyl underbody protection, a thick black gloopy stuff that sets like shit to a blanket. Not that I know anything at all from a personal viewpoint about shitting on blankets I need to add here.
I love the word DIN HOLE i did chuckle alot 😆
great job mate, Waxoil is really good for putting in cavity (inside where the new plates have been welded in) then paint the outside
Y'know. the sense of achievement transmits well from your vids. So brave to attempt this and so happy it's working out. Good on ya!
Raptor liner from upon for undercairage
I have recently used waxoyl black spray on underseal. I was impressed how easy it went on and quicker than brushing. Nothing lasts forever 👍
Gravitex which is made by Upol or dinitrol are both good products for under the van. Both can be painter over or felt as they are.
Keep up the good work your nearly there. All the hard work will have been worth it.
the editing... massive props.! really love how youve started telling your story.
You can use Schultz underseal and you can spray it on it comes in Black and you can brush it on car underseal look it up
Lanogard! Hands down. You will love it. Good job cj.
Vactan is brilliant.
I painted a rusty horseshoe with it over a year ago and hung it outside still no rust on it!
Raptor is pretty good I've heard
I used some Por15 stuff from Frost Automotive on the subframe for my car. It'll basically paint over rust and prevent it getting worse but drys pretty solid. They do a lot of varying bits so just check descriptions if you go that way.
Raptor coating from buzzweld Bristol 👍
Another great progress vlog 👍💙❤️
Hi CJ, have a look at Dinitrol products. They're used by a lot of classic car owners and off roaders. There are also Dinitrol treatment centres around the UK where you can take your vehicle and they will clean, prep and treat the whole underside. I use various products of theirs on our Defender and Syncro camper. One of the spray can products comes with a 1m hose that has a 360 degree nozzle that you insert into holes in the chassis, spray and slowly draw it out which coats the inside of the chassis and stops the chassis rusting from the inside out. It also creeps into all the nooks and crannies. Loads of info online and defiantly worth looking into. I use the ML, ML3125 and 4941. No affiliation just a happy customer.
You should look into line-x .
I use to underseal and rust proof buses. Waxoyl is pretty similar to the rust treatment I used but that was for inside cavities, you used to drill small pilots holes and then spray inside chassis box section etc. The underseal itself wasn’t rust proofing but just a barrier so using a preventative primer and a few coats of paint will do the job and if you are going to use waxoyl use it in those cavities 👍
Raptor Coat! Used it on my car
I will give you something you are very hard working. I am sure all this hard work and being thorough will see you through. Happy travels and I hope you get to spend more time in Portugal too xx
I dont know why I sent kisses lol just ignore them Im in the habit off sending everyone kisses after each sentence ha ha. At least its better than being negative huh.
13:00 The aluminium box can corrode much faster than steel if it is touching steel. Galvanic corrosion is real!
lanoguard is very good
CJ please do a live with a can of Thatchers lol 🙂
Rustbusters 121 epoxy mastic paint, it's used on sea tractors, expensive but once on... you have to take a grinder to it to get it off
undercoating, truck bed liner, Flex Seal black, Black Jack undercoating (hardware stores)
Lanogard, awesome stuff, better than waxoil
She is looking super good mate and loved watching they journey to this point. After doing all of the welding on my T4 last year I gave everything a really heavy coating of Upol Gravitex and it is super super tough and love it.
U-pol bed liner, it's the same as raptor but a lot cheaper, I restored my Citroen Saxo VTR a few years ago, down to bare metal, and it's still like new now, comes in a few colours, but also comes in a nice Grey the same as your van, been a great watch keep up the good work, all the best jon
I used buzzweld products, highly recommended 👍
Always remember that what you have achieved this far is just remarkable. It was a huge undertaking and you are getting very close to completing. The gear box issue is a pain but you will get past this and be back on the road before you know it. Keep the head and see it through. Rooting for you.
din hole makes me laugh even more mate as din in Swedish is “your” 😂😂
You will literally know your home on wheels inside and out! So impressed! 🌀💚🌀
Great video! Roll on next Friday!
Better to find these issues now whilst you're set up ready to fix it all up.
If you've seen the work done on Project Binky, you'll know that there's nothing that can't be solved with a welder, and a grinder, and some fresh steel.
Best protection for underbody is Body Shutz. A black paint that dries completely but is slightly rubberised. Very popular in Germany.
Great project, total respect! Recommend POR15 chassis paint, had to professionally repaint my UK Navara importing it to NZ. Better than new but don’t get it on your skin.
I was giggling at the “din hole” but then almost cried at the end with the gearbox glad my Lt ain’t reached recon levels just yet 😅
Awesome channel, admire your dedication but at the end of the day it's your home. You should consider trying Fluid Film for underbody protection after the painting is done.
All the best, really enjoying the restoration journey.
Morris Ankor wax is the stuff. Farmers use it to protect their machinery.
Lots of RESPECT for you
So close 👍👍👍
Hi mate use raptor paint for truck beds. Hard as nails 👍
POR15 paint from Frost Restorations covered in epoxy two pack bed liner .Use waxoil inside the box sections when the bed liner is cured .
Vactan is great and I've used it for years. Usually got it off ebay. I've been recommended Jotun 87 for protection. Not got that far yet but it's designed for boats and people who recommended it have used it on their van for years. Not cheap though
Great work, rebuilding my sprinter 722.6 transmission
I think when you clean and paint under your pride and joy and see the finished product all the pain is worthwhile and I love waxoyl to finish with.
I have a 1982 Mercedes 307d motorhome and it's like new underneath with no welding at all but the cab part is a another thing as I am having to do a bit of work on it this year for the first time. Keep up the good viewing.
KROWN T40 is awesome stuff, used it for years and transforms the underside.
19.43 - Maybe try a bedliner coating over bitumen as a sealer
Great job cj! iv seen a lot of good reviews on a thing called lanoguard for protection on the underside of your van.
It's used alot in the pick-up / 4x4 market. I've bought the stuff myself to do the underside of my ford ranger
15:30 whatever that tune was you did end up playing was really good! Nice surf rock!
Shazam found it, it's "Just Like My Baby" from the "On Parole" EP by Billy Bill
The end part ohh no its coming alone nicely
Dinitrol
Dinitrol
Dinitrol is worth a look they do a rust converter and a chassis protector.
Keep going!! Light and the end of the tunnel!!
heard alot of good things about lanoguard, supposedly superior to wax oil and alot cleaner for the environment and even better than that easy to apply, I'll be using it on my landrover 110.
A product Id recommend for under-body protection is called Lanogaurd, I treated my rust and painted same as you then applied lanogaurd.
Ahh wait a minute, lano, now hmmmm Lanolin comes to mind, and isn't there something from sheep wool called lanolin, like its the stuff the Norwegians use to keep hands greased against the cold. Just thinking.
@@simonmcowan6874 That's exactly what lanogaurd is made out of. I have to say I'm quite impressed with it
@@DraiochtR let's hope Amber reads this 👍
Lanoguard? See it on Instagram, looks like the sort of thing you need for the chassis
Id use Raptor paint.
Bedliner protection 👍👍
2 or 3 good coats of Isoflex Liquid Rubber applied a couple of days between coats will protact against all but the most viscious stone strikes.
Check out Lanoguard for underneath
i used to use spray on cooking oil on my moto-x bikes when I raced in the mud back in the day; it provided a non-stick barrier, and was cheap - the only done side was you'd have to re-apply -pretty regularly
Great video keep at it soon be free
Lanoguard ...... steam clean then spray on with a garden spray bottle. Brilliant stuff! Let it cure for 12 hours after spraying on. Goes off like a wax candle. Is also enviromentaly friendly 👍 top up with a wash and spray yearly.
I feel your pain
The Lego new Defender kit gearbox
Built it 6 times back to front , 7th time lucky as it happens
Woof woof Lance
