    1. a (couldn't have)
    2. b (should have)

    4. b (shouldn't have)
    5. c (would have)

    • @rabiyaraheel96

      Why b is should have?

    • @haiai832
      @haiai832 4 года назад +17

I guess (could have) would also work here. In case of (should have) it means what I was supposed to do in the past. (I know I was supposed to study but I didn't).
And for (could have), I know it was possible (there was an opportunity) for me to study last night but I didn't.
Which is the better fit? I don't know. I need more context to decide that.
If anyone thinks that without the need of more context one of them is a better fit could you please explain why?
(Would have) might also kind of work. It would sound like there is an implied condition."(Had I not done an escape room) I would have studied last night". But I guess the other 2 fit better. It all depends on context(:
If anything is wrong please someone correct me.

    • @haiai832
      @haiai832 4 года назад +7

I have a feeling that the word (instead) points more towards (should have) instead of (could have). I don't know why and I don't have any grammatical base to support it. And it doesn't quite make sense. Could anyone comment on that?
Sorry for the messy writing. I am thinking as I am writing(:

    THIRD CONDITIONAL
Had I been a bird, I would have flown away (to Lucy).
Had I known Lucy's phone number, I would have phoned her.
Had I won a lottery, I would have bought Ferrari and met Lucy.
If I had had money, I would have bought a car.
If I had been there, I would have been happy.
If I had not seen this myself, I would not have believed it.
Had I seen you, of course I would have said hello.
If I had not been so tired I would have gone out.
If I had had a camera I would have taken some photographs.
If I had been hungry, I would have eaten something.
If I had gone to the party last night, I would have met lots of people.
If you had been in my position, what would you have done?
If I had been you, I would not have bought that coat.
Had he invited me, I would have attended the party.
Had I been you, I would have helped the poor.
Had I been the president of the USA, I would have made a lot of changes.

    1) You couldn't have seen him...
    2) Yes, I know I could have studied last night...
    3) I would have been happy to have you stay.
    4) You shouldn't have left the party so early!
    5) If you had trained more thoroughly, you would have completed the marathon.
Hi Lucy, greeting from Italy :)
