Plus in the video when he asks “who killed you” and he replied “HIM” immediately ment to me that the ghost saw william in the building. Such good writing, what a great job
My favorite thing about this is that while Afton suddenly appearing and shooting the protagonist is extremely sudden and seemingly out of nowhere, it's actually seeded out throughout the video that another human is present, but it's mixed in with the various paranormal phenomena so you don't notice (this is why the protag saw a human shaped shadow and why the doors kept locking). His presence also completely recontextualizes the conversation with Gabriel. Gabriel seemed to know the whole time, or at least part of the time, that Afton was there (this is why Gabriel says "him" when asked who killed him, despite having not seen the killer clearly).
This also makes sense with the "No, too dark." response. To me, it would be more likely the killer and Gabriel started in a well lit place, not only that Afton probably had the golden bonnie suit on. He must have been saying it was to difficult to see Afton's face in the dark in that moment.
I don't think William was necessarily there the whole time, rather that he had just entered the restaurant when Gabriel started telling the guy to get out. Gabriel wasn't trying to hurt him, he just wanted to scare him so he'd run and be able to live and release the evidence

You see, Pathew Mathew, the typical Poltergeist is a powerful ghost that haunts a building and moves objects. A Phantom is what happens when a ghost hunter couple's parental neglect and experimental technology leads to their kid's mutation into a half ghost superhero.
Nice Danny phantom reference, but whenever I hear poltergeist I just think of the prismriver sisters, which is adorable. If you don't know, they are a trio of sisters who play music supernaturally, one uses a keyboard, another uses a trumpet and the last one uses a violin.
@@halinaqi2194 Oh, neat. Sounds similar to the Hex girls, but that's just based on spooky vibes and instruments and nothing based on music. I'll have to check this out.

EMF readers rapidly go through multiple frequencies (thats the static noise). The Ovulus work in a similar way, except there is a set of words pre-programmed into the device. With this VHS tape, I don't believe Gabriel meant the Investigator any harm. He needed to scare him into leaving. I think he was just trying to warn him that he had to leave, otherwise William Afton would get him. Afton is the one who is spotted by the investigator near the arcade machines. It's obvious that Afton wouldn't want anyone to know that he was the killer, and I think it's likely he heard that there would be a paranormal investigator in the building that night, because he works at Freddys Pizza. Also, the bang we hear at the end is a gunshot. If you put the subtitles on, you can see 'Shotgun blast' in the subtitles. This is Williams killing the investigator. Afton is also the one who steps into frame at the end, and picks up the camera. Edit: I was wrong about EMF readers. A spirit box is the one that makes noise, as kindly told to me by people in the replies.
I thought so to Its a really bitter sweet ending to it The animatronics weren't trying to hurt anyone They were trying to save him Even if it makes them seem like scary monsters Also it definitely feels like if Freddy were trying to hurt the guy he could have done it but he didn't cause again just needed to scare him Also when The guy asked Freddy who killed him Freddy responded with "him" Which immediately felt like Dude get out afton is behind you
Tbh im really surprised Matpat knows this little about how a typical paranormal investigation actually operates, John Green followed the 'protocol', what there is, pretty to the letter.
Mat, have you ever seen a spirit box before? If I recall, it uses radio frequencies that 'ghosts' can 'manipulate' to communicate. So, there would be a lot of responses that are coincidental as radio stations bleed through occasionally.
Ain't that just a two way radio? Like you can literally get a two way radio with a scan mode built in to quickly shift through channels until transmissions are picked up on one
It's not occasional bleed through, it's the whole point of the scam. It's rapidly scanning frequencies and using the snatches of words to pretend they are communicating with ghosts. Random garbage = just part of the processes. A working sentence or coincidentally appropriate "response" = proof.
13:40 This actually brings up a very interesting point that if we are 100% sure that souls are inhabiting animatronics then it confirms the existence of paranormal beings in this world so it is quite possible they have actual needs for exorcists and the like
I like how the paranormal investigator feels less like an actual ghost hunter and more like a Phasmaphobia youtuber he's already played it enough times, he knows the procedure by now
Currently my favorite tape from Specter. Impressive from a production and technical level, and I love the storytelling, how realistically it treats the restaurant and the world of FNAF, and I really love how it characterizes the spirits inside the suits. That they’re not bad people, they’re just kids trapped in a place they don’t want to be in.

I need Matpat to watch actual ghost hunts because everything they joked about is pretty standard stuff, especially the stuff with the spirit box and the "how did you die?" question
i kinda like how the investigator was talking to susie until he asked how she died. he seemed like he was trying to be very kind since it was probably a child. i dont know it was a comforting tone of voice
Being someone born into the late 90's, I only vaguely remember VHS tapes being a thing as a young child. Very cool to see the medium making a comeback in this horror genre.
You only "vaguely" remember them? I was born in '99, and I remember them basically constantly being a thing for at least the first 6-8 years of my life.
57:54 Well Matt, its not that he was in the building the entire time, infact, if you listen closely in the background before Gabriel says to get out, you can hear a door open, and then close very faintly. This can be assumed that William was there to check to see if the investigator died to the animatronics yet, and brought a shotgun just incase he wasn't dead yet.
The narrator sounds to me like the automated voice in Sister Location. I kept expecting him to tell Suzy, "I can see what you were going for. How did you die as a result of, exotic butters?"
I'm shocked when Ash said they recognized the voice that what came out of her disembodied mouth next was not, "Isn't this guy the same voice actor as Leith Pierre from Poppy Playtime?"
The amount of Joy I get with Ash explaining the game. Its giving Unstoppable Force meets Immovable Object. The Understanding Millenial meets GenZ Humor
Being someone who used to watch Buzzfeed Unsolved and now watches Watcher, and knows the drill with the EMF and the Spirit Box, it's really funny and a little frustrating that Matpat doesn't know what they are//at least look up what it does for the reaction.
That's just life! No one knows everything. Sometimes you just don't know something and that's ok..he probably looked it up afterwards and had a huge facepalm moment if that makes you feel any better
@@testerwulf3357 yeah, I know. I'm not angry about it or anything. It's just funny to me that I have an extra piece of knowledge over someone who's horror content I really enjoy. My theory is William was the shadow he saw and as the investigator got closer to the truth Gabriel noticed Afton and told the investigator to leave because he recognised who he was, and that is why Gabriel chased him out because he was taking too long.
Just gotta say, I LOVE the effect that Ash has had on Matt's Zoomer vocabulary. It's adorable and so endearing, plus it contains a lot of genuinely good humour. Keep up the good work, both of you. 💜

Really cool video series, but those questions are truly abrupt. It's part of being a short video, so it's fine in this context, but I feel like the questions would be need to be far more leading and gentle, so that the victim could decide what to share: • Did someone hurt you? • They did? Who hurt you? • Do you remember how they hurt you? • It's okay if you don't want to share right now, we can talk about other things. • Would you like to leave this place? • You would? Can you leave? • You can? How can I help you leave?

It took me watching the video a few more times, but “Gabriel’s” voice changing on die might actually mean the other spirits are in the room. It says die five times, Chica, Bonnie, Freddy, Foxy, and Golden Freddy. Also when Freddy starts screaming at the end you can still hear the word “out”. The spirits are still warning Shawn even after turning aggressive.
53:53 : Omg, the creepiness of the video was really starting to get to me, as I'm actually watching this late at night for immersion (that's usually not a problem but these videos are so well made that they're far creepier than what I usually watch), and then Ash's comment litterally _dropped_ ; I laughed SO hard! The timing on this was perfect 😂Dang I love these interactions with Ash so much!
Phantoms are generally angry spirits that stay in one place and often cause harm or injury while poltergeist are usually tied to people with strong emotions instead of a place and tend to move or throw object and are often pranksters.
Actually if you have subtitles on it will say door creaking open so that means William doesn't enter the building until the end that's why Gabriel was telling him to leave because he knew his killer was in the building and he was trying to save Sean
Matt: "The one part of the FNAF timeline that everyone can agree on is that Susie is the first." Also Matt: [Makes Susie the second person Afton murders in his expansive timeline]
So...I'm to assume he didn't say "Get out" as in bad memories, instead it's a warning because William is there... Also I'm in pain, for I have lost the game repeatedly now.
I think that the spirit children forget about the moments prior to their death, so they remember him being nice and beckoning them to the back. But once you remind them, they regain those memories.
i did an analysis on this vhs, and the more i edited over it and watched it the more i realized how hard this would be to actually make and model lmao, love spectre
For reference on what a ghostbox is: It's basically an oscillator. It jumps between reading AM and FM radio frequencies. My assumption is that the reason they led with the box was to see if they could pick up on any possible disturbance. Maybe the idea is that a ghost may not be strong enough to speak in all circumstances (too unstable to manifest noise at a consistent, human audible frequency), and a box has a widerfield of perception?
Fun fact: If you have the subtitles on, you can see them read "distant door opening" right before Gabriel starts telling the investigator to get out. Its because Gabriel knows that's the killer and he's trying to save the investigator, but because his speech is limited he can't explain it so he just goes killer robot mode to scare the investigator away.

"how these things work as in rel life"
You mean science fiction life right? RIGHT?????
OR DO I NEED TO STAY AWA FROM CHUCKECHEESE.
OH GOD MY DOOR JUST LOCKED.
Honestly, Chuck E Cheese is creepy so i'd say staying away from it is good advice lol. On a more serious note: I do believe in ghosts so i wouldn't call it science fiction, but no i don't think that Chuck E Cheese is gonna get possessed any time soon.
@@tijlfabian9301 i mean there are paranormal investigators irl, whether or not theyre real or faked, the fnaf vhs depicts what the irl paranormal investigators do.

Ash's "drop the base" bit was perfect. I just wanted to show appretiation for such genius comedic timing.
God, I just love when something actually managed to scare or surprise MatPat when it comes to FNAF. Not only what the massive shift in Gabrielle's 'get out' surprising, but Willy wit a Shotty is a terrifying idea.
Multiple ways to murder a person.

In the canon FNAF series I was only ever startled by some of the jump scares, but this ACTUALLY had me feeling scared the whole time I was watching it. Fantastic job of building horror throughout
same. when freddy said GET OUT i was jumping
The sense of realism is another factor of scare. 😅
At 46:16 it's super subtle and hard to see in the darkness. But when he turns to see where the giggling came from, you can see a head was peeking around the corner and ducked back before he brought up the light. That's why he said it "must have been one of the kids" and "now she's gone". He saw it with his own eyes.
or could have been purple guy entering or first seeing him

You can see the arcade cabinet kid too

I work at an aquarium and MatPat's complaints about people miscategorizing blue fish as "Dory" has spoken to my soul, preach on Mat, preach on
The relevance of this comment is beautiful.
They call it a "Surgeon Fish" in Animal Crossing.

The fact that matpat has been on the internet for probably more than a decade and doesn’t know about *the game* is insane to me

Absolutely 🤯
Please fill me (and in extensions others who are ignorant like me) in on what game you're referring to and to what part of this video made you come to conclusion?
Yeah if you could clue us in please do

A spirit box is the one that makes noise, as kindly told to me by people in the replies.
ty
so i was right before all along and so was matpat and his friend
I agree, i think gabriel was trying to warn the investigator.
EMF readers detect electromagnetic fields, the spirit box is the one that cycles through radio frequencies.
I thought so to
Its a really bitter sweet ending to it
The animatronics weren't trying to hurt anyone
They were trying to save him
Even if it makes them seem like scary monsters
Also it definitely feels like if Freddy were trying to hurt the guy he could have done it but he didn't cause again just needed to scare him
Also when
The guy asked Freddy who killed him
Freddy responded with "him"
Which immediately felt like
Dude get out afton is behind you
53:57- Ash's immediate response of "Drop the bass!" was _choice._
Tbh im really surprised Matpat knows this little about how a typical paranormal investigation actually operates, John Green followed the 'protocol', what there is, pretty to the letter.
*Shawn Green
Mat, have you ever seen a spirit box before? If I recall, it uses radio frequencies that 'ghosts' can 'manipulate' to communicate. So, there would be a lot of responses that are coincidental as radio stations bleed through occasionally.
Ain't that just a two way radio? Like you can literally get a two way radio with a scan mode built in to quickly shift through channels until transmissions are picked up on one
@@morninmichigan1824 Yeah, but ghost hunters want to look smarter than their audience, so they bring out the funny gadgets.
Eh.
It's not occasional bleed through, it's the whole point of the scam.
It's rapidly scanning frequencies and using the snatches of words to pretend they are communicating with ghosts.
Random garbage = just part of the processes.
A working sentence or coincidentally appropriate "response" = proof.
Was about to comment this
13:40 This actually brings up a very interesting point that if we are 100% sure that souls are inhabiting animatronics then it confirms the existence of paranormal beings in this world so it is quite possible they have actual needs for exorcists and the like

Ash having to explain The Game to Matpat was hilarious and unexpected. Clearly, I lost the Game
Now I've lost the game too

This is a underrated comment!
My favorite part is the look on Matt's face right before they said it, like "wait no what are you doing-"
I rewound this part about 5 times because I couldn't stop laughing.
I need Matpat to watch actual ghost hunts because everything they joked about is pretty standard stuff, especially the stuff with the spirit box and the "how did you die?" question
Ash going „drop the base“ has me DEAD, I‘ve never replayed a sequence more than that part😂😂😂just genius
i kinda like how the investigator was talking to susie until he asked how she died. he seemed like he was trying to be very kind since it was probably a child. i dont know it was a comforting tone of voice

57:54 Well Matt, its not that he was in the building the entire time, infact, if you listen closely in the background before Gabriel says to get out, you can hear a door open, and then close very faintly. This can be assumed that William was there to check to see if the investigator died to the animatronics yet, and brought a shotgun just incase he wasn't dead yet.
freddy says him when asked who killed him cause the killer is there.
For real life she's a trying to get and brought ashore gun just in case he wasn't dead yet.
The narrator sounds to me like the automated voice in Sister Location. I kept expecting him to tell Suzy, "I can see what you were going for. How did you die as a result of, exotic butters?"
...I hadn't lost the Game in years. I feel betrayed.
But the deep confusion of Matpat did help quite a bit xD
The “GET OUT” part was genuinely terrifying
Fr, normally i don't get that scared but that...that terrified me..

Poltergeists tend to be confined to a certain location and can move things around. Phantom is just another term for ghosts in general.
Poltergeist are also described as louder then the average ghosts.
I'm shocked when Ash said they recognized the voice that what came out of her disembodied mouth next was not, "Isn't this guy the same voice actor as Leith Pierre from Poppy Playtime?"
29:35 the fact that I'm watching this after the fnaf movie and matpat literally had the end of the movie completely figured out is crazy 😮
pretty sure cuz it's a plot point in the silver eyes trilogy. the movie has a lot of parallels to that series

My theory is William was the shadow he saw and as the investigator got closer to the truth Gabriel noticed Afton and told the investigator to leave because he recognised who he was, and that is why Gabriel chased him out because he was taking too long.

It's not even a generational thing either, The Game has been a thing since the 90's.
Really cool video series, but those questions are truly abrupt. It's part of being a short video, so it's fine in this context, but I feel like the questions would be need to be far more leading and gentle, so that the victim could decide what to share:
• Did someone hurt you?
• They did? Who hurt you?
• Do you remember how they hurt you?
• It's okay if you don't want to share right now, we can talk about other things.
• Would you like to leave this place?
• You would? Can you leave?
• You can? How can I help you leave?
"You were murdered by a bunny? Pathetic." **Proceeds to get killed**

20:00 I agree with Mat, no one wants to have a last supper situation with strangers in a Freddy Fazbear's Pizzaria.
This episode was one of the funniest reactions in a while. I really enjoyed how talkative Ash is in this one. MatPat's and Ash's chemistry really shined through in their commentary/back and forth conversations for this episode.
I love how matt doesnt rush these videos. Like he jokes how a 30 second video can be turned into a 45 minute episode but i respect that he doesnt change that. Its what makes GTlive so unique and interesting… also the whitty banter sections is some of my favourite content on the platform :)
Wow, MatPat didn’t know about “The Game”? I’m both surprised and impressed he went this long… Well yes, welcome to The Game, Matt.
If Ash ever moves on like the previous disembodied voices before them, I will always remember them by Matpat's strong opinions list ngl

I think that the spirit children forget about the moments prior to their death, so they remember him being nice and beckoning them to the back. But once you remind them, they regain those memories.
I need a gtlive where mat and ash just go over all mat’s strong opinions and why they are so strong lmao
i did an analysis on this vhs, and the more i edited over it and watched it the more i realized how hard this would be to actually make and model lmao, love spectre
53:53 For this scene alone, Ash should get a promotion. It literally left me screaming in tears from laughing
