This story isn't even true. It came from a bot account on X. Yet these 'journalists' are sat discussing it without considering the source.
The story was then pushed by mainstream media just to get clicks. Do you really think Musk cares about the UK? He used the UK 'police state' idea to scare Americans from voting for a sister leftist party in the US. It's a nonsense story.

Elon's weird fascination with UK politics genuinely worries me.
There's a concerted effort by him to destabilise the government at the moment and judging by how much weird credence people were giving to his arbitrary petition, it looks like he's well on his way to achieving his goals.

I'm sorry, are we expecting politicians to put a stop to money flowing into politics? The vast majority of them are only there for the perks and kickbacks, which often make their MPs salary look like pocket money. An MP should have their finances closely scrutinised before they're deemed eligible for office, during their tenure, and most especially after they have served their time. This scrutiny should be able to spread anyone they have a financial connection with, their spouse, children, business associates ect. Anywhere they're moving money should all be essily explained.

Jon, you badly underestimate the capacity of the UK population to vote against their own best interest. Brexit. Yes, the UK will have its next government chosen for it by Musk, just as here in France Putin will buy the next President. Depending on populations to act against big money is futile. Europe is in such danger and the UK (who could have been the backbone) has been neutralised.

The assumption has to be that if Musk did inject $100m or whatever into Reform is that they would use it to spend massively on getting their message over online - as you said. However, I would suggest that the jury is out as to whether that would work. Would those that might vote for Reform in seats that they could win actually follow all that online promotion; let alone be influenced by it?

I think the important point is that whether or not it works, it would be corrosive to politics. I agree that money does not guarantee results, but we should not be quick to rely on that. We should be extremely wary of allowing more money into politics, not least from people like this. If anything we should take the opportunity to push harder than ever to regulate money in politics.
You can say Harris's money failed to achieve much, but, it did affect and shape her policy agenda. The donors do matter.

While money in politics is always a concern, the differences should be obvious. Intention is a major factor, as is the level of power involved. There are quantitative and qualitative differences between a private company sending a million to a party, and an oligarch who is actively involved in right wing politics sending a hundred million to a party, not least when he could plausibly give billions more.
Money in politics should be regulated for everyone, no matter which party. But Musk is a far more dangerous person on multiple levels, including his political influence in the US, than any of the people we've dealt with before this.

You are correct. I think it was a figure of speech though. The point being that Farrage and Farragisti are the core of both groups. As in I could register MancSpanner Plumbing Ltd and then go bust and Start A&A Renovatios (Crumpsall) Ltd and I’d still be the same person behind it…

@Brisk275 thank you for taking the time to reply and acknowledging the facts. Question...why are they only 'lies' when it's Trump or Farage, but when it's (legacy) establishment figures, it's 'figure of speech' or (as per earlier commenter) '...pretty much [true]'?

Elon wants to make money, advance the human race, and help humans be free. Listen to him talk ffs and use a bit of objectivity.

Musk is a liar and a hypocrite. He is a deeply unpleasant person, as his private life has demonstrated over and over again. You need to apply some of that objectivity to more than just a few of his public statements and actions; even they are not all in his favour.
