The stuff by Battier at 40:58, then maintains possession, and does a behind the back pass to teammate while falling out bounds. Classic Battier, worth 2 men on the court. Who's your daddy? Battier!
The replay at 41:35 show that Battier got Gardiner with the body, so no, Billy, it wasn't the force of the block that made Jason fall. That only happens when Wilt Chamberlain is the shot blocker.
It's a shame Gilbert wasn't 100% this game. Duke couldn't stop Woods in the first half and Battier yeeting Gardner into the photographers during Dunleavy's 3 spree was the turning point. But regardless, that Duke team was crazy good. Zona just couldn't hang the full 40 mins.
Duke won the 2001 national championship because of the 1999 championship game loss..Would Shane Battier leave Duke with Elton Brand if Duke won it all in 1999 ?? The 1999 team was actually better..The 2001 team had a better mental toughness to them!! I was so glad when Duke won it all in 2001! I was 13 years old and loved sports! 🌆🏀💺☑✔
That's always up for debate with me and to be quite honest I think way too many overanoint how good that '99 Duke team was! I've been a diehard Duke fan since '81-'82 when I was in fourth grade and two things never get discussed enough when it comes to that '99 club! I will never say and have never said the '99 team wasn't that good! They were, but 1) they weren't battle tested enough schedule wise and 2) they took advantage of a down season overall that year in the ACC! Also take into account their overall youth! Most completely forget that Duke team had only one senior overall on their entire roster in Trajan Langdon! And back then it was still of more paramounce (importance) to have a veteran tight knit club when it came to March! Experience was a huge factor in the '01 squad winning it all because that starting lineup had played so many games together, plus the combined leadership of Battier and Nate James! Senior (and in James' case a fifth season) leadership gets taken for granted now, but having two guys with nine years between them can't be understated!
Yes though I agree with you on the mental toughness! That coupled with the experience both played key factors in the '01 championship run! Doesn't matter about which was better! The '01 team finished the job, '99 didn't! Which is why the NCAA sports that have sanctioned tournaments are the best! U get a true champion outcome!
honestly the 99 team was better than this team but they were not battle tested as most of their games were over by the 2nd media break in the first half.
Cut it out, battier was a bench player in the NBA, he was a defensive player! Even in college he had a ceiling!! Kwame brown had a lot of potential! Lot Of upside, just didn’t pan out!
Maybe AZ will win this time. The replay at 41:35 show that Battier got Gardiner with the body, so no, Billy, it wasn't the force of the block that made Jason fall. That only happens when Wilt Chamberlain is the shot blocker.

Shane Battier, the one man who gave Kobe fits.

Crazy that this Duke team didn’t repeat in 2002.. they were even better that year
Gilbert was always suspect on defense. Arizona, guys played sloppy and it showed.
Arena's was alway allergic to defense , so it wouldn't have mattered either way.
Thank you for uploading this game!

Duke!!!!!🎉
Yep !
How in the world Jordan 🐐 pick kwame brown over battier
Because Jordan was a horrible NBA owner
Cut it out, battier was a bench player in the NBA, he was a defensive player! Even in college he had a ceiling!! Kwame brown had a lot of potential! Lot

Dunleavy killed the wildcats
