A lot of you guys must not understand Portal. While this was boring to watch, it's more about the atmosphere and the emersion of the music for these guys. That said, not all their songs are like this.

Totally agree. With the stage presence they have, it's almost impossible to capture the atmosphere from a camera that only sits behind the kit. If you want the atmosphere, you need to be in the crowd looking up at the stage. (Had they done that, it would be a shitty drumming video.) I loved this video and I knew the Sick Drummer viewers would respond this way.
Just sounds like shit black metal to me - I don’t want to understand portal 😂- if I wanna hear some atmospheric black metal - Dark Funeral are the kings
I've played the drums for 30 years now. I've learned to play jazz at first, then my tastes changed as I got older and more cynical about the human standard as a whole. This is great fuckin music! If you don't like this particular song, start with the Ion album from start to finish. It's really melodic towards the end.
How can anyone think that this amazing performance is boring...this is a work of art from start to finish. I wish I could watch all their shows from this angle. The mix is soooo much better for "understanding" the music.
Portal is awesome band. Never fallen for any band as fast as i fell for them. Listened half from song 'Curtain' and the next day went and bought 'Ion' and 'Avow'. Just great stuff.
+ryan robinson funny thing is that whatever people think is technical really isn't. It's simplistic, generic extreme metal drumming for the most part played at the common 240 - 250 bpm speeds

He is very much sick drummer worthy. This isn't about squeezing in that last fill in the final microsecond of a bar and timing it to the nanosecond, this is purely about creating atmosphere. It is deliberate. You may be able to play it but I guarantee you that if you were given these riffs as a blank canvas you would not create the same feel as he has.
This guy Most definitely belongs in sickdrummer. I revault your Frequenc by judging. For me, experiencing the soundscApe that is PORTAL is art. Unless you experienced some goddamn traumatic shit, you will have trouble relating to this. Portal keeps me sane, auditor Lifeline. Brisbane Norway Edinburgh Holland. It liflim Gutted.
He is still probably better than almost everyone watching.

The more I listen to Portal, the easier it becomes to comprehend their tight song structure. At first I was a bit lost…but still impressed.
