Check out ‘Dag’, a somewhat sarcastic comedy with Atle Antonsen, Tuva Novotny and Rolf Lassgård. Might be running on the Norwegian Netflix, 4 seasons. Greatest Norwegian serie I’ve come across
Perfect timing, I just have learned some basic Norwegian and for two weeks I have been watching exclusively Norwegian series to immerse myself into the language. Now I have a lot of quality content to watch. Thanks Mon ;)
I normally don't watch a lot of Norwegian shows, but my absolute favorite is "Vikingane" cause it's really funny :D They also recorded the whole series in both Norwegian and English (because we hate dubbing!) You can find it online at NRK, so it's free to watch for anyone with access to that :) Highly recommend if you like comedy!
"Hjem til Jul" is FANTASTIC!!! Absolutely loved it, definitely the Norwegian Bridget Jones! We are going to post a blog about it when we get a moment soon. Highly super recommended!!! Mon is right, you have to watch that one! Also Ragnarok also new out on Netflix.
The series Lykkeland is called State of Happiness in the UK. Just finished series 1 on the BBC. If you loved Mad Men, then you will definitely be hooked on this.
Have seen a couple of your videos. Very useful and fair assessments on Norwegian society, from someone who is half Norwegian/half Brazilian. Keep it up.
Of all those you mentioned, the Heavy Water ("Kampen om Tungtvannet") series is my favorite, possibly because I grew up in Telemark county and know the region very well. Unlike the Kirk Douglas movie which was filmed shortly after the WWII, this series actually tried to be as factually correct as possible while still making it very interesting. BTW, I am currently on winter break in Rauland, just 20-30 minutes from the Vemork power station which was the site of the heavy water factory.
Norsemen is hilarious! It was filmed in both Norsk and Engelsk..... you listed the English version.... here is a link to the Norsk version..... www.imdb.com/title/tt5905354/ This series is a lot like the Monty Python movies..... a satirical comedy....
@@MonAmieDesserts its a really great show but remember this: its not dubbed, they did each scene two times, one in Norwegian and one speaking English. the english version is deliberately spoken in typical "norwegian english" which add a second layer of humor
Coincidentally, when I'm not watching Mon Amie youtube videos, I have been watching a Norwegian series called Occupy. I'd give it an A. Not an A+. But it's subtle and surprising enough to keep me interested. I'm a couple of episodes into the 2nd season. It's about Norway being occupied by Russia, with the encouragement of the EU. Do you know this? A number of your recommendations sounded interesting. But unfortunately not available on Amazon UK. By the way, one of the great period/costume drama films is Portuguese: Mysteries of Lisbon. Do you know this one? Recommended. (I wrote a guidebook to film and TV.) I just realized this is not a recent video. So maybe no response. :-(
You should watch wisting and lillyhammer! Both great! Or you have shows like neste sommer and Helt perfekt. They are fun when you want something light.
So far so good.
hello , nice video , but i have a question , is there any kid cartoon , movie or series that can be downloadable to practice norwegian ? or a movie or seires that they wont talk fast and it is kind of good for practice norwegian , i found Ella Bella Bingo but dont have any download link or so .. ! ty :)
"Valkyrien" is cool, yes, a little in the direction of "conspiracy thriller", with hidden agendas, hidden rooms etc. :-) But it is literally spot on, as Oslo has a ton of secret tunnels from the cold war, and even a lot of rooms built by the nazis in 1940-45, plus water tunnels so big that you could drive inside them, from one side of the city to the other side. There are also tunnels inside the Ekeberg "mountain" in connection with "secret" storage of oil, connected to the oil terminal just below the mountain. And when building / refurbishing new government buildings after the terrorist attack the 22/7-2011, we would imagine, even more secret tunnels are built. A few months before year 2000, new signs for bomb shelter rooms happened to be put up / refurbished, perhaps by accident just before year 2000, but probably because a number of things were done, in case important infrastructure and/or war should break out because of Y2K. The fall 1999, I noticed that a tank car with corn, delievered corn through a hole dug under the floor of a shop in the streeet "Grensen" that was closed and refurbishing downtown, very close to the government buildings. No bakery inside that hole, or in the neighbouring shops so why did they deliver a lot of corn into that hole. The refurbishing went on for many months, until the shop opened again, and who knows what is under its floor, connected to the government building (departement of fishing and departement of justice, close by) Most probably, the royal family is able to evacuate from their castle, through such tunnels, and even when they tore down some old buildings at the Aker Sykehus (hospital) - a secret tunnel was uncovered, going not in the direction of the rest of the hospital. There is even a "secret" railway station a little west of the National Theatre railway station, however the developement was abandoned because of lack of money, and less relevance as the area above was not developed to high rise houses as planned, however it is completed, with functional platforms, and - most probably a secret tunnel to the royal family's castle and other structures nearby, Regular trains even passes this secret station, so even small Oslo, has a lot of underground secrets, and that is why "Valkyrien" got so popular. By the way, there was no conspiracy behind the building of Valkyrie plass station - they just built it because the roof caved in by accident when building the subway tunnel between Majorstuen and Nationaltheateret stations in 1912. (Opened i 1928) The plans were originally to build a station farther down, which would have been much better and gotten more passengers, but resources and money were limited at that time, so after 16 years, they simply built the station Valkyrie plass, just 250 meters from Majorstuen, odd, but true.
Yes I agree lykkeland was one of Norway’s creme de la creme. I truly cannot wait for the next season to begin. Exit had me gobsmacked and rolling in laughter. I’ve watched Home for Christmas at least 3 times as it gives you that feel good feeling. Valrykie, Twins, Noble, Killer Street - enjoyed them all. I invested in a vpn just so that I could watch more Norwegian series. For some reason I’m bored of watching American series were everyone looks like plastic, same predictable storyline, guns and guts all over the place. And let’s not leave out the aging super hero......always ex military lol - trying to catch a baddie. Yawn.

Thanks for the list! My favorites are SKAM and “Hjem til jul”. I recommend “parterapi” which is really fun and you can learn different dialects.
I really like ragnarok.🙌
You are well informed and very sweet!

Was very well acted and for a Brit informative about the oil industry in Norway... Personal with Mayday and Rescue...
The series ''Helt Perfekt'' is also a great comedy series. It's like a Norwegian ''curb your enthusiasm.''
I never watched this one! But I watched the trailer now and it looked a lot of fun! ☺️
Tusen takk! Very helpful, thank you! :)

You forgot to mention these:
1: Hotel Cæsar
