The tallest Australian girl is 6'4", almost a foot shorter than Zhang. So as the original commenter said, it is true, both teams have height.
Australia was the better team, well deserved victory. China has a future star, just wish Zhang Ziyu can stay healthy.

You can't spin drive left or right because of her taking up the space.
When you shoot you have to shoot over her who is blocking your views.
She literally limited a lot of offense options for her teammate when she is on court, that is why they pass it to her and let her do her work.
Only if she can move and create space, she is just a burden
I beg to differ about the tall girl. From the first match till now, she's using her height to her advantage which is absolutely fair in basketball but she's bulky, has poor reflex and can't jump well. Where's the skill? That's not a talent in my opinion.

Also, the coaching staff has to develop a strategy not depending on one super player. Every time no. 19 is out, the other teams are catching up. Without no.19, I think china will lose to Japan and Korea. It is that bad.

Agree. The coach and the rest of team need to spend more time practicing. Though, taking into consideration that Chinese players at this age have to spend much more time in text books than their peers, you can say that they have done their best and pretty productive. The main drawback is the whole Education system behind.

Three points.
1. Zhang is going to be a big deal, obviously naturally gifted in terms of body, but also plays her role with great skill.
2. China would have lost by >30pts if Zhang wasn't there, and probably wouldn't have reached finals.
3. Zhang's size slows her down, which means many plays end up 5 v 4 in Australia's favour. This will be something China needs to address, otherwise teams like Aus, USA, and top Euro teams will consistently dominate them.
Seems to me that Zhang commits an offensive foul, clearing out with her left elbow every single time she receives the ball in the post (and rolls). Don't think it was called once? Any refs out there care to comment? Am I just misinterpreting the law there?

I know a lot of people were optimistic and hyped about this Chinese squad, especially due to Zhang Ziyu, so I'm sure many were disappointed with the result today. But in saying that making the final is still a great achievement and the Chinese girls definitely had some moments today worthy of all the hype and optimism!
However Australia showed why they are a force in women's basketball and came in with a solid gameplan, they executed well, and the girls were able to maintain their composure at some critical junctures which is ultimately why they came away with the win. Congrats to both teams and to Japan as well on sealing the bronze! Many great players to look forward to from all countries in the coming years.
Yes, Chinese team can be as good as other peers, just assume that they have more time playing outdoor sports instead of being drown in text books 7x24.

The simplest way for Zhang to score is to get as close as possible to the basket. When she got pushed away from the basket just pushed right back and try to squeeze in. If she is at the uncomfortable spot just don’t shoot but pass the ball out and keep squeeze in and when she is at her comfortable spot raise her arm and ask for the ball, her teammates just need to throw the ball high to her and she can score. No one can stop her if she is at the right spot.

If Ziyu can develop movement and actually dribble and dunk balls, she'll be Shaq x 10. Right now she's just big. She posts under the net and when the ball just shoots wherever she is. Easy to defend actually, just dont let her post within range. Aus showed perfect example how to beat them
教練暫停很少見用戰術板教路及組織，而且來來去去都係安排張子宇高位拿球，分兩邊再落低位單打，被澳洲隊完全針對這打法去部處。
一个战术用了一整个杯赛，当别人教练是傻子？
之前是别的球队没有高的人，就是碾压。
澳大利亚里面好几个高个子，基本上都是2-3个盯防她，让她难受，断绝她的第二次或第三次进攻。
而且里面的水平各个都很高，运球，倒球，都很顺畅。
反观中国队，一个强人，掩盖了所以问题。真的需要再加强基础训练。澳大利亚不是一个级别的球队。
@@stephenclark8715 关键战术好用啊，一路赢下来，正常教练都不会去改，我一个赢球的战术为什么要改来改去。我倒不觉得是一人强掩盖所有问题，这根以前还没有小球的NBA一样，你内线有强点肯定不能打快，锋线和后卫手感肯定要慢热。张子宇强点还没有完全展现，能到成年队有更好的老队员和后卫给她喂球得分会更舒服。

Actually she might looks slow and awkward but that doesn't mean she couldn't handle with Australia's speed and power. Her 1st quarter is not good but after start of 2nd quarter her oppotunity of bank shot, free throw and rim protect gradually increased. It is fact that after 2nd quarter whether or not she was on the court made big difference in score efficiency of China.

As someone with limited knowledge of basketball, here's a (no doubt very dumb) question: With someone the height of China's star, would it not be a potential winning tactic to post her under China's defensive goal throughout to (hopefully) limit the opposition scoring to very low numbers? (I know goal tending isn't allowed.)
It is good for China to learn lessons earlier than late.
