You are so wrong about Camby. Yes he struggled in the 50 game regular season but the Knicks as a whole struggled as well, just barely getting into the playoffs as the 8th seed. His resurgence happened in the 99' playoffs. He broke into the rotation and played excellent , helping the Knicks get to the Finals even when Patrick Ewing got injured. He averaged a double double over his next two seasons with the Knicks, those numbers are actually quite comparable to his numbers when he won DPOY later in his career.
Jermaine O'Neal is one of the best examples of a guy like this. His first 4 seasons in the league were crap, and he ended up going to 5 or 6 all-star games.

That's true for a lot of busts. Sam Bowie would have almost certainly been a perennial all-star without his injuries. Greg Oden had the misfortune of being a traditional big man at the advent of small ball, but he would have still been very good had he stayed healthy. The list goes on and on. Injuries are the primary reason guys become busts.

I think the narrative on Chandler is not quite accurate. Up through 2004-2005, he was still considered a developing player and was given limited play time, coming off the bench. However, as the Bulls finally worked themselves into a playoff team, he was pretty good in 4th quarters (they often showed his and Ben Gordon's 4th quarter stats, as they were around league leaders at their specialties). The Bulls even extended his contract. I think in the next season, he had back issues and didn't make the leap into the type of player they wanted. On top of that, Ben Wallace became available in free agency at the end of that season, and the Bulls obviously pursued Wallace. It was at that point the Bulls decided they didn't want to pay two centers a starting salary and abandoned Chandler. But if you look at Chandler's rate stats, he was solid in his final seasons with Chicago. He just couldn't put up huge numbers playing 26 minutes per game.

He was always one of the most talented young players, runner up for ROY in 2010, 18 ppg on an injury plagued year 2011, then 2013 he became a superstar(his 4th season and 3rd he was injured 2/3 of the year) and 2015 he became a top 5 player and has been ever since.

Bogut was on his way to be probably the best 2 way center in the league. He had a solid(if unimaginative) post game, could really pass the ball and was an amazing defender. Then he tore his elbow and whatever could be called a "shot" and "touch" was gone to him. He was still a good finisher and had a awesome feel for the game offensively, but it was never the same.
My biggest problem with guys going to the NBA from high school is none of them are ever ready to play. You can probably name one or two that did well early but nobody remembers the guys that didn’t make it at all. Even Kobe’s first year was forgettable. They need to expand the G-League for guys to play in prior the NBA.

eh, nahh. he wasn't all that great before and leading up to his injury either. Sure, he was improving but with a combination of other injuries and a low efficiency rating, I wouldn't be surprised if the clips were wishing they'd have just drafted devin harris instead.

That's true for a lot of busts. Sam Bowie would have almost certainly been a perennial all-star without his injuries. Greg Oden had the misfortune of being a traditional big man at the advent of small ball, but he would have still been very good had he stayed healthy. The list goes on and on. Injuries are the primary reason guys become busts.

I think the narrative on Chandler is not quite accurate. Up through 2004-2005, he was still considered a developing player and was given limited play time, coming off the bench. However, as the Bulls finally worked themselves into a playoff team, he was pretty good in 4th quarters (they often showed his and Ben Gordon's 4th quarter stats, as they were around league leaders at their specialties). The Bulls even extended his contract. I think in the next season, he had back issues and didn't make the leap into the type of player they wanted. On top of that, Ben Wallace became available in free agency at the end of that season, and the Bulls obviously pursued Wallace. It was at that point the Bulls decided they didn't want to pay two centers a starting salary and abandoned Chandler. But if you look at Chandler's rate stats, he was solid in his final seasons with Chicago. He just couldn't put up huge numbers playing 26 minutes per game.

Curry was never considered a bust. He was always one of the most talented young players, runner up for ROY in 2010, 18 ppg on an injury plagued year 2011, then 2013 he became a superstar(his 4th season and 3rd he was injured 2/3 of the year) and 2015 he became a top 5 player and has been ever since.

Anyone who played fantasy basketball in the early/mid 2000s knows how crazy productive Marcus Camby was for someone who didn't score a ton. He probably deserved more than one DPOY, although I'd have to check to see who won during that time over him.
Bogut was on his way to be probably the best 2 way center in the league. He had a solid(if unimaginative) post game, could really pass the ball and was an amazing defender. Then he tore his elbow and whatever could be called a "shot" and "touch" was gone to him. He was still a good finisher and had a awesome feel for the game offensively, but it was never the same.
My biggest problem with guys going to the NBA from high school is none of them are ever ready to play. You can probably name one or two that did well early but nobody remembers the guys that didn’t make it at all. Even Kobe’s first year was forgettable. They need to expand the G-League for guys to play in prior the NBA.

Bogut wasn't aggressive enough. people thought he was Nowitzki not a defensive stud. He had a great jumper in college and was an awesome passer. Those things were still true, he just didn't show them often enough.
