This is my second Sega MD/Genesis video; the first one - which I posted a while ago - was a "Top 100 According To Retro-Sanctuary" - and had the horrible misfortune having a highly distracting mouse cursor visible for the entire 10 minutes. My apologies for that.
Consider this video a "fixed" version - two years later.
On a personal note, I find this Gamefaqs vote-based list is more "representative" than the Retro-Sanctuary list.
What's really interesting is that of these 100, 32 of them appear on the Sega MD/Genesis Mini! That's got to make a lot of buyers happy...
Anyway, let's give the Sega console some love!!!

As a couple of people have pointed out, #70 (3:00) is mislabelled - it should be "Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom" --- *not* Phantasy Star II. Thanks to @Tyler Fitts and @Reydal Sandoval!

No Sparkster or Busters Hidden Treasure or Decap Attack or Animaniacs or Lion King or Toy Story or Earthworm Jim 2 or Batman or Maui Mallard or Greendog or Maximum Carnage or Castle of Illusion?.... just goes to show the Mega Drive had way too many amazing games to all fit in a top 100. Such a great system

Such a shame most of us were only afforded one system back in the day, a lot of these look great.

2 games that are always underrated in these lists are:
Sonic 3 & Knuckles: By far the best Sonic game on the system but came late in the consoles life and nowhere near as many played it as Sonic 2.
Streets of Rage 3: So many people struggled with the difficulty and didn’t stick with it but this is definitely the best of the trilogy.
I remember being 10 and my dad randomly showing up with a big plastic tub full of sega genesis games. Had something like 70 games. I recognize a shit ton here.
So many memories of taking boxes of pizza and bottles of pepsi into the living room to play Sonic 2 and Vectorman. Heading to Blockbuster to pick up Home Alone and Good Burger for the VHS. Staying up late watching Friday's on Cartoon Network

When I wait for new video I rewatch your older stuff. I didn't play much games as a kid,few at arcades,and on friend's Amiga,but when I watch your videos I can see beauty of pixel art. This graphic hold up really well, much better then early polygon graphic from PS1/N64 era. I ordered yesterday Mega Drive collection of 50 games for PS4. Can't wait to try some of this awesome titles.

A LOT of big hitters for me personally in here, v.glad to see Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force doing so well! Legendary games. Me, I would subtract a few here, and stick in Dune II:- Battle For Arrakis, Pitfall:- The Mayan Adventure, 2 Crude Dudes, Puggsy, Chakan:- The Forever Man, Fatal Labyrinth, and Robocop Vs. Terminator, can't believe none of them made it! 😄

Oh my goodness this brings back memories. I remember playing Kid Chameleon with my younger brother back in the early 90s. I think probably that hearing all the different game music is what really hits those high nostalgia notes! Haha

Do you remember a game with a kid having wings, tail and horns ? i distinctly remember that one stage was with a luna park.

I didn't have a huge collection of Sega games but i guess I had good taste, bc the ones I owned from this list were all rated really highly lol
Chiki Chiki Boys was always a favorite of mine.
I spent so much time on my mega drive as a kid, it's a wonder I had time for school.

(here comes text) I've played a lot of mega drives in my life, I didn't get this time anymore I played on mega drive emulators, man I like these games, from mouth to mouth when I see these games, haha, I really like this mega drive already played sonic, streets of rage, mario (oops, huh buddy) I like these games very much thanks, when I see these videos of your 100 games, I download them on my cell phone all of them for me to play on my emulator, you're awesome gary, I hope you make more videos like this ........ (I hope ...)

3:00 is it phantasy II or III? Also what does the red/black on a few of these games?
Someone else asked the same question about Phantasy 2 vs 3 - I'm pretty sure it's 2 - but I'll double check with the person who created the clip for me. And the red/black just means "the text was not readable in white - so it had to be black or red to be seen"
#70 is 3 for certain, #19 is 2.
I've checked back and yes - you are correct! The label is incorrect - it should be Phantasy Star III. I will post a note. Thanks for pointing this out!

Why are no tiny toon games and fantastic dizzy on this list, I can't believe people did not rate them in top hundred
Loved to see the sonic games scoring so high, they were my favorites too. I expected a higher score for ecco the dolphin, rock n roll racing and splatterhouse III.
Eternal Champions was a lot better for me than MKII where the AI cheated us

I got it about 3 weeks ago and it terrified me.mor creeped me out a little at least. The "yeeeeeessss", the spinning arm rubbish Konami and treasure were apparently obsessed with. And the bear thing that looks more like a cat thing and says "hooks". And some of the music.
Sonic spinball better than 3D blast?.. i don't think so.....
Also in my opinion Ecco games deserve to rank far better...
I agree with the sonics. At least it is actually possible to get anywhere in Sonic 3D. And you can have fun playing it. Spinball is a pain. I have both eccos but I haven't managed to get into them. Same with Dynamite Headdy.
79 & 19 are both Phantasy Star 2

I'm not 100% on including multiple entries of the same series. Like having all Mortal Kombat or all Street Fighter titles. Makes the list full of sequels. Just pick the superior one to make room for other titles.

Sure, but like I said it makes a list full of sequels. It's not very interesting and excludes alot of fun or unique titles from making the cut.

No, just pick which ever game is considered superior and put that on the list. For example, if Mortal Kombat 2 placed #10 on the list and MK1 is only #29, then obviously people like MK2 more.
I understand including a sequel if its unique and stood on it's own. Like say Super Mario Bros 2, which is very different from the 1st and 3rd games. (and yes, I know Mario 2 USA is Doki Doki Panic)
My point is, it doesn't make for a interesting video when every other game on the list is a sequel. Alot of other great games get pushed aside because people wanna vote based on nostalgia instead of what's actually the best of the best for the system.

In my opinion, the title "Alien Soldier" is totally hyped. I see nothing special on it and I even dont like it. Same with the "Shining"-titles. As soon there is the word "Shining" in the title, people freak out. Shining Force, Shining in the Darkness, at least Shining. And I never liked RPG-games, so that Phantasy-garbage is nothing I really need.
lol where are all the "amazing shooters" that people swear by? also barely any JRPGs. SNES destroys this sorry excuse for a console.
