In the third story - if they'd missed the last train in Italy, they could have landed in a very stressful situation for nothing. In Florence the stay is Expensive, and depending on how many tourists there are at the time there might have been no room at all available at such short notice. Besides, in Italy stuff is not open 24/7 - 10pm is considered very late for businesses, and at 11pm definitely no one would have answered their calls or opened up the doors for them.

OP should've planned better if the purpose of going to the restaurant was to eat tira misu there. Could've ordered it while ordering the main dish, could've taken it to go, could've eaten dessert only, or started with dessert, orrr, maybe she shouldn't have waited until the last moment to go to that one place she wanted to eat at. Tons of options, none of which included missing the train.

I love tiramisu and would consider missing a train for it, but you can't jeopardize your travel schedule like that when you're with a partner. Especially since it was THE LAST train of the night and he was clearly stressed over it (and it didn't sound like a back up plan like a taxi or a motel was an option). From the way she wrote it, it does sound like the bf overreacted a bit, but also they're in a foreign country so stress levels are very high.

Story 3, I understand wanting to try a special food while on vacation. The problem is that he clearly expressed to her that he'd like to leave to make sure they catch the LAST TRAIN of the night. And then instead of telling her boyfriend that getting this dessert is special to her or that it would really mean a lot, maybe compromising and finding somewhere near the hotel to get tiramisu or finding time to come back to this restaraunt, or even just saying "I'm going to order this dessert no matter what you say" (jerk move but it would've been *something*) she ordered without any heads up. Not to mention that she just assumed it would come out quickly even though the food they ordered earlier has already taken longer than expected. It's just incredibly inconsiderate and putting stress on her partner that didn't need to be there. And on top of all of that, she didn't even bother to apologize. No "You were right, I'm sorry we had to run." Everything worked out in the end and that's wonderful, but she still put extra stress on their plates that he'd tried to warn her about.

Sean, this is the first time I've disagreed with you since I started listening about six months ago. If you ordered tiramisu minutes before the last train, took pictures of the dessert to share on Instagram, and caused me to sprint to make it to the train on time, I would hand your plane ticket to you and tell you I hope you can figure out how time works before your plane departs. 🤣 Insane.
Holy crap that pizza story…… I would have done so much worse than the wife…. My exmil came at me swinging when I was two days out of the hospital after giving birth to my daughter, and it all happened because I asked her to leave because her and her son was arguing in the kitchen after I just got the baby to sleep… she called me every name and insult you can imagine while trying to punch me… she ended up getting a glass of water thrown in her face that day as her son forced her out the door and I was a single parent by the end of the week 😂
With story 1, I think my big question would be, "Are they exclusive?" There are loads of people in FWB or "not serious" relationships that are still exclusive to avoid drama and STDs. That part really should have been clarified because it doesn't sound like they broke up, just that OP wanted to level up and she was like, "Nah, I don't have the bandwidth for that. I'd rather keep it as it is."

I'm the "stressed out when running late" traveler. If we make it I will chill out quickly but it's 50/50 if I will cry getting there haha. I plan everything to a 10 to 30 minute block so I just know it'll be a domino effect

I watch Smosh, too. I meant that it's fun that they all have their own stories to share, and they all get to react to stories they've never heard. Josh is usually the only one who reads AITA, and he reads his stories beforehand. It seems more fun for all three of them to be both the listener and the narrator.

My biggest take from the tiramisu is that I don’t think this is the first time she has disrespected his time for her own vanity & benefit, based on the “I’ve never seen him this mad before” comment. There are ways to be respectful of other people’s time when you are wanting something on vacation. She could have ordered it with the meal and asked for a box later, she could have taken it to go; she could have asked to bring it out first if she was worried about the picture, she could have said when she ordered it that they were in a rush and to get it out quickly. She didn’t do any of that. She assumed that her boyfriend would be docile towards her immaturity and selfishness and that her wants were more important than what the plan was. As others have said, Italy is expensive, there would be language barriers, and there could have been no rooms available. Hope this was a wake up call for her to grow up and realize that the world doesn’t revolve around her.
I don't think "I've never seen him this mad before" implies anything. My bf is very level headed and stays calm even in very stressful situations, but one time he got really mad (his dog was really sick and we thought she'd swallowed my Zoloft [she hadn't, fortunately]) and he scared me. It was the only time I've seen him that mad, and it's not a situation that had ever happened before. He was just incredibly stressed to the point where he didn't have control over his emotions the way he usually does. I think that's more what OP meant.
I'm also pretty sure this wasn't the first time. If it were he probably wouldn't have reacted so strongly. There's a reason why many relationships break during a holiday, cuz it really shows what kind of person you are. Though, I doubt OP saw his POV. It seemed as if she was proud that she was right "cuz we made it". She seemed to be that kind of person who's thriving on short time adrenaline, while he seems to be the kind of person to calculate extra time so he won't get stressed. Both is fine if they're not done to the extreme, but I do wonder how much this difference influences them in daily life. If they communicate well they might be able to find some middle ground in situations like this, but if they're not willing to do that then it might even become a dealbreaker in future cases.

As a Dutch person, I would've ordered the dessert while also ordering the main dish and would've told the waiter we're short on time so to bring out both the same time. No need to spend all that time waiting until after you've eaten the main dish to get the waiter's attention so you can order the dessert, only to spend more time waiting for it to be brought to you 😄 Time efficiency is key 👌
Love your podcasts. Prior to 2020 - our cafeteria was wide open at the hospital. Honestly as long as you're not there to do any harm to the hospital, it's all good. If the hospital limits who enters, then yes it's wrong. Trust me, the patients would get food over the cafeteria open to the public.
Agree But they could compromised gotten a peri bottle with an agreed storage spot out of sight if seeing the bidet was truly a triggering issue for the wife. Or was cleaning it the issue too? Okay, for the assrag story, first of all SHE is the asshole. You can’t just give your partner no options to be hygienic, because you’re disgusted of the idea of people cleaning their ass, which results in a dirty ass…which is better for you???! But I NEED to know how he could’ve been using that ass rag and staying hygienic. I’m assuming he first uses TP, like there’s no way he’s going straight in with the rag, but then after he wets the rag and uses it…what is his process to finish up on the toilet (does he need to dry off at all, flushing etc.) and getting the rag to the sink to wash it. Like, is he holding it the whole time until he gets to washing it, does he just plop it in the sink… is it dripping anywhere at all during this process?? …. I just…. Like I don’t blame him I guess, though I would tell my partner, too bad, I’m getting a bidet, if you’re disgusted that’s your problem. I would NEVER resort to an ass rag, but I am quite concerned about how unsanitary their whole bathroom likely is as a result. Like..if he’s dropping the rag in the sink, he’d have to sanitize the sink after that… that’s just WAY too much work for every bathroom visit.
I worked at a university and went across the street to the hospital for lunch. They have a cafe, little stores, and several restaurant booths through the hospital. There are at least 4 Timmy's booths, too!
I work at a university too. And the people who work nearby all come and eat at the university cafeteria. This includes police officers, office workers, and people who work at the courthouse. In the summer, when there aren’t as many students around, having regulars is important to keep the food fresh and rotated. If the people from the community didn’t eat there I think they’d probably have to reduce their hours and then students who need food on campus would be out of luck. I am sure that the hospital cafeteria welcomes the business. Hospital cafeterias rarely have the actual sick people going down to eat, often sick people have dietitian approved meals brought to their rooms. The cafeterias are used by day patients, visitors of patients, staff, administrators, etc. So weird that the family is freaking out about such a harmless thing.

These $15K++ sewing machines are considered "for home/recreational use" and not the industrial kind that can sew leather goods, garments, and/or crafts in a commercial setting. This information was so mind-blowing to me when I got into sewing.

In regards to the desert. I agree about communication but the problem is it was communicated. Yeah was he over the top absolutely. But he said we shouldnt she seemingly agreed or at least didnt say otherwise to then order it separately after the meal with less then 30 minutes to get there and check in and get on board. Not 30 minutes to get there but 30 minutes till it leaves. Thats not time. Personally and most people I know even if they arent the get there 45 min early like i am at least want 10-15 minutes for navigating and check in issues and all that. Story 2, the basis of the (horrible) mother's argument is that all 3 siblings should be treated equally, regardless of biology. If we put the manipulation and scam part aside. She is saying that bio kid is legally entitled to 25% of the life insurance. But that it would be ethically or morally unfair to recieve money that the (half) siblings receive none of. The (horrible) mother's solution is that bio kid signs over her 25% to the mom. And then when mom dies each kid receives an equal 33.3% of mom's total assets. So all siblings are equal.
In the tiramisu story they both suck for making plans that only focus on their own needs. If he cares about punctuality and stress-free travel, he shouldn’t have planned a restaurant visit super close to the departure of their last train when he knows his girlfriend is there for the dessert. If she cared about the tiramisu that much, she shouldn’t have planned the restaurant visit that late when she knows what her partner is like when it comes to punctuality. They both assumed that their own needs would trump the needs of their partner when it came down to it and they both suffered the consequences: he’s pissed off that she disregarded his stress, she’s pissed off that he got mad at her for doing what she came to do.

in april 2023 i left my hospital job due to health reasons. i was sad about no longer having the hospital sushi. in feb 2024 i took my bf to the same hospital. i was really excited about getting to have the sushi again. 😅
Russia/Europe? Same thing 😂 as a European I can tell you there are some general differences between southern and northern Europe. Notice all the countries you mentioned being laid back are in the south of Europe. Be aware that I am generalising, but southerners are also known to be more friendly/outgoing, less punctual etc. I'm a northerner, for context. Just to say, all of Europe has a lot of cultural variation.
In the post about tiramisu she’s the asshole my favorite food is crab don’t really have it that much or good ones where I live but if I didn’t plan to go sooner in the day and we were that late on time no I’m leaving without getting it. my family is from El Salvador and some of the best crab I’ve ever had was there but 10pm out in foreign countries is dangerous esp foreigners you could get scammed robbed have nowhere to sleep unless the station is inside somewhere which I doubt there sleeping exposed to anyone and everything most everything out there is family owned and they are not staying up all night for some foreigners that might come in.
Curry is England's national dish so it being on a list of top foods makes sense. I think someone from India would consider English curries very different dishes those actually made in India but it's also nothing like the stews and pies we've been make since ye olde days. I think "Indian" food in the UK is kind of like having "Mexican" food in America?

The tiramisu story is annoying. It’s like “But I waaaaaant to so screw your carefully laid plans”. This type of person is annoying, deliberately jeopardizing a schedule cuz you want something despite you not budgeting your time properly. It’s almost the female version of weaponized incompetence. Basically “Oh I don’t understand that a vacation is heavily dependent on adhering to a schedule, what’s the big deal”. Ugh.
They actually do make flushable wet wipes. I use them and flush them and have for years and never had a problem. He’s thinking of baby wipes which are not flushable.

I feel like I would order the tiramisu as well BUT I’d order it to go… she should have done that for sure and is an ah for that so he would have get less stressed about the train.. but I also don’t agree with freaking out on your partner. The fact she felt scared of him by his reaction is very sad to me. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re walking on eggshells with your partner. But it’s not like it’s an every day opportunity to get the “best tiramisu in Italy” so I feel like he should have been a little more understanding about that as well, he knew they didn’t have the opportunity to do it the last time they were in that area on the trip.
For story 3, I also can't call her the AH. The last 2 times I was in Washington State I got caught up in a record store about an hour away from SEA-TAC and at the record store in SEA-TAC its self. And then instead of telling her boyfriend that getting this dessert is special to her or that it would really mean a lot, maybe compromising and finding somewhere near the hotel to get tiramisu or finding time to come back to this restaraunt, or even just saying "I'm going to order this dessert no matter what you say" (jerk move but it would've been *something*) she ordered without any heads up. Not to mention that she just assumed it would come out quickly even though the food they ordered earlier has already taken longer than expected. It's just incredibly inconsiderate and putting stress on her partner that didn't need to be there. And on top of all of that, she didn't even bother to apologize. No "You were right, I'm sorry we had to run." Everything worked out in the end and that's wonderful, but she still put extra stress on their plates that he'd tried to warn her about.

Holy crap that pizza story…… I would have done so much worse than the wife…. My exmil came at me swinging when I was two days out of the hospital after giving birth to my daughter, and it all happened because I asked her to leave because her and her son was arguing in the kitchen after I just got the baby to sleep… she called me every name and insult you can imagine while trying to punch me… she ended up getting a glass of water thrown in her face that day as her son forced her out the door and I was a single parent by the end of the week 😂

With story 1, I think my big question would be, "Are they exclusive?" There are loads of people in FWB or "not serious" relationships that are still exclusive to avoid drama and STDs. That part really should have been clarified because it doesn't sound like they broke up, just that OP wanted to level up and she was like, "Nah, I don't have the bandwidth for that. I'd rather keep it as it is."

I watch Smosh, too. I meant that it's fun that they all have their own stories to share, and they all get to react to stories they've never heard. Josh is usually the only one who reads AITA, and he reads his stories beforehand. It seems more fun for all three of them to be both the listener and the narrator.

My biggest take from the tiramisu is that I don’t think this is the first time she has disrespected his time for her own vanity & benefit, based on the “I’ve never seen him this mad before” comment. There are ways to be respectful of other people’s time when you are wanting something on vacation. She could have ordered it with the meal and asked for a box later, she could have taken it to go; she could have asked to bring it out first if she was worried about the picture, she could have said when she ordered it that they were in a rush and to get it out quickly. She didn’t do any of that. She assumed that her boyfriend would be docile towards her immaturity and selfishness and that her wants were more important than what the plan was. As others have said, Italy is expensive, there would be language barriers, and there could have been no rooms available. Hope this was a wake up call for her to grow up and realize that the world doesn’t revolve around her.
I don't think "I've never seen him this mad before" implies anything. My bf is very level headed and stays calm even in very stressful situations, but one time he got really mad (his dog was really sick and we thought she'd swallowed my Zoloft [she hadn't, fortunately]) and he scared me. It was the only time I've seen him that mad, and it's not a situation that had ever happened before. He was just incredibly stressed to the point where he didn't have control over his emotions the way he usually does. I think that's more what OP meant.
I'm also pretty sure this wasn't the first time. If it were he probably wouldn't have reacted so strongly. There's a reason why many relationships break during a holiday, cuz it really shows what kind of person you are. Though, I doubt OP saw his POV. It seemed as if she was proud that she was right "cuz we made it". She seemed to be that kind of person who's thriving on short time adrenaline, while he seems to be the kind of person to calculate extra time so he won't get stressed. Both is fine if they're not done to the extreme, but I do wonder how much this difference influences them in daily life. If they communicate well they might be able to find some middle ground in situations like this, but if they're not willing to do that then it might even become a dealbreaker in future cases.

As a Dutch person, I would've ordered the dessert while also ordering the main dish and would've told the waiter we're short on time so to bring out both the same time. No need to spend all that time waiting until after you've eaten the main dish to get the waiter's attention so you can order the dessert, only to spend more time waiting for it to be brought to you 😄 Time efficiency is key 👌
Love your podcasts. Prior to 2020 - our cafeteria was wide open at the hospital. Honestly as long as you're not there to do any harm to the hospital, it's all good. If the hospital limits who enters, then yes it's wrong. Trust me, the patients would get food over the cafeteria open to the public.

Okay, for the assrag story, first of all SHE is the asshole. You can’t just give your partner no options to be hygienic, because you’re disgusted of the idea of people cleaning their ass, which results in a dirty ass…which is better for you???! But I NEED to know how he could’ve been using that ass rag and staying hygienic. I’m assuming he first uses TP, like there’s no way he’s going straight in with the rag, but then after he wets the rag and uses it…what is his process to finish up on the toilet (does he need to dry off at all, flushing etc.) and getting the rag to the sink to wash it. Like, is he holding it the whole time until he gets to washing it, does he just plop it in the sink… is it dripping anywhere at all during this process?? …. I just…. Like I don’t blame him I guess, though I would tell my partner, too bad, I’m getting a bidet, if you’re disgusted that’s your problem. I would NEVER resort to an ass rag, but I am quite concerned about how unsanitary their whole bathroom likely is as a result. Like..if he’s dropping the rag in the sink, he’d have to sanitize the sink after that… that’s just WAY too much work for every bathroom visit.

I worked at a university and went across the street to the hospital for lunch. They have a cafe, little stores, and several restaurant booths through the hospital. There are at least 4 Timmy's booths, too!
I work at a university too. And the people who work nearby all come and eat at the university cafeteria. This includes police officers, office workers, and people who work at the courthouse. In the summer, when there aren’t as many students around, having regulars is important to keep the food fresh and rotated. If the people from the community didn’t eat there I think they’d probably have to reduce their hours and then students who need food on campus would be out of luck.
I am sure that the hospital cafeteria welcomes the business. Hospital cafeterias rarely have the actual sick people going down to eat, often sick people have dietitian approved meals brought to their rooms. The cafeterias are used by day patients, visitors of patients, staff, administrators, etc. So weird that the family is freaking out about such a harmless thing.

These $15K++ sewing machines are considered "for home/recreational use" and not the industrial kind that can sew leather goods, garments, and/or crafts in a commercial setting. This information was so mind-blowing to me when I got into sewing.
Mine was like $300 and works beautifully. I can't imagine what a $15k one would be like!!

In regards to the desert. I agree about communication but the problem is it was communicated. Yeah was he over the top absolutely. But he said we shouldnt she seemingly agreed or at least didnt say otherwise to then order it separately after the meal with less then 30 minutes to get there and check in and get on board. Not 30 minutes to get there but 30 minutes till it leaves. Thats not time. Personally and most people I know even if they arent the get there 45 min early like i am at least want 10-15 minutes for navigating and check in issues and all that. Notice all the countries you mentioned being laid back are in the south of Europe. Be aware that I am generalising, but southerners are also known to be more friendly/outgoing, less punctual etc. I'm a northerner, for context. Just to say, all of Europe has a lot of cultural variation.

In the post about tiramisu she’s the asshole my favorite food is crab don’t really have it that much or good ones where I live but if I didn’t plan to go sooner in the day and we were that late on time no I’m leaving without getting it. my family is from El Salvador and some of the best crab I’ve ever had was there but 10pm out in foreign countries is dangerous esp foreigners you could get scammed robbed have nowhere to sleep unless the station is inside somewhere which I doubt there sleeping exposed to anyone and everything most everything out there is family owned and they are not staying up all night for some foreigners that might come in.

For the tiramisu story, screw reddit. They think everything is black and white. The real response is NAH because ofc I can’t blame the boyfriend for being stressed (I have meltdowns. I feel like I would order the tiramisu as well BUT I’d order it to go… she should have done that for sure and is an ah for that so he would have get less stressed about the train.. but I also don’t agree with freaking out on your partner. The fact she felt scared of him by his reaction is very sad to me. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re walking on eggshells with your partner. But it’s not like it’s an every day opportunity to get the “best tiramisu in Italy” so I feel like he should have been a little more understanding about that as well, he knew they didn’t have the opportunity to do it the last time they were in that area on the trip.
For story 3, I also can't call her the AH. The last 2 times I was in Washington State I got caught up in a record store about an hour away from SEA-TAC and at the record store in SEA-TAC its self.
