The odd thing about Ryukahr is that I tend to always watch him for a while, eventually lose interest for some time, and then come back again with much interest in his content. He has the influence to keep me coming back like that and I believe that’s a sign of a great content creator.

Me too, I guess that's a thing. I think I first stopped watching when he transitioned to Mario Maker 2, and as I didn't have a Switch at the time it didn't really hold my interest.

Yeah I added that in just to cause additional pain. He beat it in a super expert run. It took me hours to beat when I was younger. He’s truly an amazing player.
(And yes I know my level was pretty bad, but back then I was very inexperienced and wanted to experiment with Kaizo and puzzles/contraptions)

I've never seen Ryu this legitimately upset xD Was worried for his sanity for a second there, where he discovered the "third block" that crushed his shell to victory.
There was no third block. She'll got crushed between 2nd block and wall.

Puzzle levels are my favorite levels to see Ryu play. It's quite enjoyable watching him just brute strength (aka cheese) his way thru them.
I'm mixed about it, it seems half the time he doesn't understand it's a puzzle/mini game and he just assumes it's a troll/bad level but on the other hand it is funny watching him bust apart and cheese some of the less secure/forced pathways levels.
@@ravenousredbeard5414 he definitely understood that the ghost houses were puzzles. He was just really bad at the first one. And didnt even want to try the second (I don't blame him, it wasn't very clear and you only had one chance per life. Why do the long way when you can do the quick way?)
@@asimplefuture_ totally fair! My level design for koopas are key was definitely floored! Younger me was a bit too naive to notice that though and make sure the third section was coherent to not just himself but to other players!!!!

That's crazy how there are still unbeaten SMM1 levels out there, it's been so long the creators may never even know someone finally beat their levels.

What i love about smm1 videos is Ryu theorising about possible cheese, exploits and hidden secrets, going so far as spending a few lives to explore these ideas.

In the second Ghost House, I'm pretty sure the big Koopa was just meant to break the two blocks on the right of the bomb so it would walk free to the right instead of the left ( : but still, cheese is cheese!

Big koopa lands on the p-switch you guide through the conveyer labyrinth and allows to bomb to walk freely and for you to collect the coin without the hassle of moving conveyers!
I actually think that Koopa's are Key level was pretty cool. Looked ridiculously hard, like there's no way I'd be able to complete it, but when the mechanics weren't being jank and the puzzle pieces connected correctly; it was a well thought out level with a consistent theme and gimmick. For Mario Maker 1 standards; that's one of the coolest levels I've seen!
Reading this has made me incredibly happy. Thank you so much for your comments on my level. I put a lot of hours into that and even made myself upset a few times while playing it. I wanted it to be impossibly hard for someone like me just so it could be a challenge to someone like Ryu without it being trash.
My contraptions not working correctly though was a real stomach punch. I was very disappointed about the second coin section messing up with the p-switch. That had never happened to me before when trying to upload it.
Yeah he third section though I can see was very hard to wrap a head around but Ryu found cheese I didn’t even see so I won’t complain 💀

Over on the Ryu channel, “Koopas Are Key” would’ve been the recipient of a few dozen four-letter words!
Pretty sure Ryukahr qualifies for sainthood for not using them while playing that abomination of a level.
He is extremely patient and I admire that dedication and determination. Honestly I swore when trying to upload it. The amount of times I failed the shell jumps was insane.
But I see many design floors in it now, especially the blind 3rd block and also the second coin contraption with the p-switch getting stuck. The p-switch was never an issue for me so that was a real let down seeing that it cause Ryu some grief. I felt pretty bad seeing that.
But I’m honoured he played it none the less!

It’s rare that you see a level like “Koopas Are Key” that has clear talent behind it and the creator’s intentions were good (non troll level), but is at the same time so poorly designed and executed.
Unless the goal was to make an unfair and unfun level that breaks constantly, in which case bravo!

Though the ending was brutal, it was purely meant to add some challenge to the level. The mushroom requirement wasn’t blind either as I made sure you could see that, but the third block was a bit unfair and I should have indicated that. (Back then I didn’t know any better)

Between the second ghost house and then hitting you with the Garbage Bros, this might be my favorite episode ever. Every level in this episode could have been named Garbage Bros and it would have been appropriately named.
Ouch 🤣 I was little when I made that koopas are key level. Though I didn’t honk the contraptions sucked so bad. I cringed rewatching it.

Edit: also I never knew that section 2 with the p-switch could be so janky, missing that coin and the p-switch getting stuck must have been a real pain.
As for the third section you 100% found cheese. The intention was to have the p-switch go on the conveyer and then have the shell you used to hit the blocks (by kicking upward) to help the p-switch progress up to the springs.
The shell would be put in the clown car and launch a flame to ignite the bomb and let it walk into the breakable blocks. the large koopa walks onto p-switch which freezes the conveyers which allows you to retrieve the coin a little easier and free the bomb.
The spike shell jump was a bit of uncreativity. I’ll be completely honest, I’m not too sure what little me was thinking but that was pretty bogus. And the mushroom ending was totally uncalled for and back then I had no idea about the issues with blind jumps and blind koopa-crushing blocks.
None the less though I am very very honoured again that you actually had the PATIENCE to play through that level.
Matter of fact I don’t have a switch so I don’t have MM2 🥲 But it was finally nice to see my favourite Mario maker player complete it!

This is one of my favorites of all time. Its one that I like to rewatch haha. The run had everything; jank, troll, and kaizo. All cranked up to 11 in insanity. This is the stuff I'll miss most from ryu's mm1 100 man no skip 😢.
He never ever tried to just hit the P-switch and throw the shell. Plus the block at the end weren’t that random they passed through the middle at the same time thus you could know when to throw your shell up.

@GalActic DiaMondz Yeah. I could tell thought was put into the level, i.e. it wasn't hot garbage or anything. But the Rube Goldberg contraptions do take some edge case testing to weed out issues, and the unfortunate thing for you is that it's SMM1 and you can't really update or do anything anymore, so what's there gets judge for what it is with no future body of work to show where you are now as a level creator. :( Given it's your level, you probably got quite the surprise when you saw Ryu played it, and probably went video hunting! My advice for play testing is mainly geared for prospective level creators among the Mario faithful who have access to SMM2. I have SMM1 for 3DS, so.... :D Thanks for sharing!
@@Acts19quiz Ironically I came across the thumbnail first and it looked similar to my level. So I found this video as quite the shock! I’ve recently moved house so I’ll need to plug in my Wii U again and check out all the Mario maker notifications I’ve gotten since then, including Ryu playing the level!
And yes it is a shame that j can’t update it, but if I can ever get a new console and MM2, you can bet I’ll make a part 2 and be more cautious, mature and precise about my level design in the future.

Pretty sure that one bit in Koopas Are Key called for hitting the switch and kicking the shell across the conveyors. The spring would bring it to the second level to hit the block and let out the bomb, and you could even throw it while the switch was inactive to grab the pink coin without sticking yourself in a saw. Not sure why you chose the hardest possible way to cheese through it. :P
He chose the hardest possible way to cheese it because I tried very very hard to make it cheese proof when I made it.
The solution was to guide the p switch through the conveyers and then letting the red koopa step on it.
Because nothing else would have worked properly if I recall correctly.
So then the bomb can walk into its place freely and be activated.
The shell that you got back from section two was used for the clown car in section 3. It was a huge 2 part contraption gone a little bit Wrong.

Here’s a thought much like how it’s endless in smm2 maybe you should try a 100 man Mario run only you go until you run out of lives the goal being to clear 16 levels one page like mm2. Each successful run your just subtract your tensing lives from the next. Could be interesting!

That was like the good old 100 mario no skip episodes that got all those views. Was really entertaining, I wish they had 100 Mario in mario maker 2 instead of endless. Endless is just so boring to watch/play, there isn’t really any difference between endless and just searching levels.
