As a (not very good) mercy main with a hand related disability, thank you so much for this video and for acknowledging that some strategies can be a lot harder with hand issues!
Another good tip is that the damage boost effects last 0.5 seconds after stopping damage boost meaning if your ashe/sojourn/pharah are taking a little poke here and there but they're constantly hitting the enemy constantly spam both beams to get both benefits at the same time
It's really risky to suggest target goals for beam usage percentage and damage boost, as Mercy has to adapt to the needs of her team, not try to pad her stats. Kayvan is the highest ranked mercy with 47/53% Boost/Heal with 1500 boost/10. Brattybottom 2nd highest mercy with 63/37 boost/heal and 1800 boost/10. 3rd rank Skesti 64/36 boost/heal with 2k boost/10. So just keep this in mind.
I agree. If your team is bad, you will be healing more out of necessity, and if you try to chase your 2000 damage boosted target you're going to let people die. It's bad advice. Everything else is alright, though
I disagree. I think having a goal to work towards is good and motivating, it keeps you focused on trying to improve. It doesn't mean you should turn your brain off and chase that number like it's the only thing that matters, just have it as a benchmark. Take for example deaths, I'm gonna always try to have as close to zero deaths as possible every game but that doesn't mean I'm gonna sit in spawn or stagger myself to *hopefully* get out alive if dying is just better in that moment. It's just a loose goal
@@thefatefish It's all about balancing goals and keeping to adapt to how the match is shifting, even chasing less deaths can be very detrimental, i've seen so many players losing fights for being scared of taking some initiative and just letting the enemy run over them (pretty much what happens really often during overtime pushes with the defending team being extra passive focusing only on surviving.), also sometimes trying too hard to survive when it's clearly against your odds just means staggering, that's why the whole idea of focusing on numbers to improve makes little sense, focus on identifying the plays that wins fights, nothing else really matters.
@@thefatefish But turning your brain off and chasing that number is what a lot of people are going to do when they hear "You *SHOULD* be getting 2000 damage boosted per 10 minutes. They're going to chase that goal, regardless of the match's circumstances, and they're going to play poorly as a result
If they’re not in danger I like to top them off to at least 2/3 hp, don’t forget their passive heals! Ur inting Genji will thank you later when he accidentally gets 3 kills 💀 jk lmao
tbh my favorite tip i remember hearing is thinking about what will benefit my team more. Is keeping my teammate alive more worth it than dmg boosting? or the opposite? It helped me out at least 😊
I've recently picked up mercy again after ignoring her since basically 2018. Mind you, I'm a low level lilly, but i've realised that sometimes it just doesn't matter who you damage boost in lower elo's, sometimes people just won't hit enough things to get 2 or 3k/10min. Like, I've just given up playing the blue beam bot just so I can never hear any damage tick up. Instead, I sometimes simply whip out the glock. 5k dmg with 6-8k healing per 10 min and the complete demoralization of the enemy team usually help more than
This reminds me when my teammate called me bad for getting 11k healing because they kept rushing in and dying but i got 3k dmg boosted 50/50 ratio, I am love your videos because it reminds me I'm not that bad, people are just ignorant
I think the reason why Ramattra and Sojourn's Vortex and Snare work the way they are with damage boost because they are active placeable abilities that do damage, while Ashe is more of a burst throwable that only affects people who get hit by the blast, While with Ramattra and Sojourn only damage if people or in the ability.
i don't play mercy but i feel like i always learn something new about the support role from your advice tbh. also perfect background music choice my GOD i'm so relaxed
I want to talk about the Baptiste Healing example more. I think something that will help players is to actually get to know how much damage characters do. Learning these numbers can really help decision making on whether you should drop to heal or what not. The Baptiste example shows how experienced your beam juggling is and by learning these numbers and the playstyles of each character can really help your decisions as a mercy. Personally for me I am more inclined to heal more against an Ashe because she has abilities that can get past shields and cover and do a lot of damage compared to someone like Mei who does not have (obviously use best judgement but you get the idea).
Wow! I just started playing this game 2 days ago and I’m mind blown by the tactical level one can reach with someone like Mercy. I resonate with her and hope to be this seasoned. I picked up bastion as dps, and I like how he’s sort of a mini tank.
Great video, I especially like the shot of Ana and mercy looking up in the sky as their team burns 😂 Great visual comedy 👌 not something you expect from an OW tips and tricks, but certainly enjoyed :D
Thanks for the new video and hope you’ve had a great Christmas :) I think damage boost numbers are very rank dependent and team dependent though. 3k over 10mins is next to impossible in gold or plat, not without completely ignoring the rest of your team. And yes, I understand that you’re supposed to have a second support to focus on the tank, but often that just doesn’t happen and you end up getting flamed for “not healing” (doesn’t help that damage amp isn’t shown on the scoreboard). Your team turns into a toxic mess and you lose. In solo queue unfortunately it is often just better to focus on healing to keep the peace, especially in ranks under diamond. I totally understand that’s not how Mercy is supposed to be played. But with the game now full of TikTok kids everyone seems to go off and do their own thing, how a hero is “supposed” to be played doesn’t seem to mean much at all :(
I always push damage boost as much as possible with around 2k per 10 mins (as a second support, I try to not force Mercy whenever we do not have another main healer). But in Diamond, I constantly see the enemy team with healbotting Mercy just wins anyway which has always confuses me. Then, I realized that when my teammates can't hit shots, my damage boost goes to waste and it's sometimes better to just healbot simply because of how much people would face tank damage without taking cover, which is honestly surprising that people still do that in Diamond.
this video helps so much! since playing during ow 2, i feel like my overall damage boosted per 10 minutes has been much lower than when i was playing in ow 1. hopefully i can improve my overall mercy gameplay with the info in this video!❤️
I actually feel the opposite. I'm more of a newer mercy player, but one thing I have noticed that because we have one less tank feeding(in my elo). I actually feel like I can do a lot more as a healer because I have one less person to worry about.
I try to use damage boost as much as possible when my team is at full health I switch to damage boost, There is a small little trailer for each hero to learn there skit for Mercy it’s her Gun,Healing Beam,Damage boost beam & Glide also known as garden angle, If you go to hero galley and than “Hero information” on your right side of your screen, If you click on it it’ll say Staff= (Whatever your button is for her healing and damage boost), Under that is her gun (Whatever button you have for her) and so on, Mercy has two passives, If you heal Allies you’ll heal along side them as all same when not healing them as long as you don’t take damage you’ll heal all by yourself but grab a health pack just in case when your near one, The higher your skill is the more difficult it gets, Try to go back and forth between damage boost and healing as much as you can because damage boost give’s your allies a lot of damage, Especially Ashe,Bob, Moria, Just anyone that has the most amount of damage to give (At lest that’s how I’ve been doing it) For the Rez though, You can do some crazy rezes but be careful because you’ll have a half a minute/30 seconds to get your next Rez, Try to stay alive as much as possible and keep your team alive while also moving/stopping the point/payload when/No one is there on your team to stop/move the point, In short form Damage boost does around 30% to your damage boost as in it gives people a 30% more damage to get rid of the enemy team it’s just as useful as healing
Your videos are so good. Easy to follow and with lots of great tips! I also love your titles, especially the last two here xD I'd read those self-help books
Something I like to do is to boost injured allies and heal them while they’re reloading if there’s nothing more pertinent. It helps with confidence boosting injured allies and stops them from complaining so much
Thank you for this guide, I am learning to be a good enough mercy to go in competitive, and yeah I really do pocket Genji, Pharah, Echo, Cassidy the most and it is great.
for me whats so frustrating is that in plat, the enemy mercy will always healbot and pocket the tank meanwhile im dmg boosting dps and letting the second support (unless its zen lucio or brig) help the tank. and the second we start losing the team always blames me saying im not healing enough or that i should do what the enemy mercy is doing. even though i peel for my teammates and i help anas/kirikos/etc when theyre being dived. i just dont know what to do especially because no one ever kills the mercy on the enemy team and wonders why their tank isnt dying
Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do but ignore them. Ultimately, if you're doing the proper things you'll eventually rank up and not have to deal with them. The key is to stick to ideas that higher-level players have attested to and then do VOD reviews every so often to confirm you're on the right track. If you ever feel like arguing with them, just remember that you're all Plat for a reason. You're both going to be wrong about something, you just have to focus on yourself.
excellent in-depth guide on how to damage boost as mercy! i greatly appreciate it. one of my favorite things to do right now is to do the backwards ga that you mentioned, it is super useful and fun to use ♡
i have autism related slow reaction time, and because of it i often accidentally let allies die because i cant switch to healing fast enough, thats why i often switch to heal even when they are generally above half health or if they are on max but in a position where someone can easily 2 shot them just to make sure i dont let them die on accident for example when im behind a wall but my pocket target is out and about and is fighting with a sniper like ashe or widowmaker i often hold down healing instead of dmg as default and only switch to dmg when they arent being directly fired so to not let them immediately die because i couldnt react in time
I think an important question is: at what ranks can I trust my team and my other support to cover for the healing I'm not doing by damageboosting? I definitely feel like that "choice" to stick with boosting is a lot riskier in lower elo.
Someone probably already said this, but if you rebind dmg and healing and don't want to deal with using your secondary to fire your blaster when needed, you can ALSO rebind your blaster to be secondary fire only (it's under blaster input, i think) or you can even go the extra mile and have it be both (this is what i do :])
The problem with having a mark for amplified damage is sometimes ur tank is taking so much damage all the time you can’t stop healing and in low ranks that’s all i experienced. The tank never backs up
My guess as for why the damage boost applies differently to the new heroes is a bit of spaghetti code. They probably heavily reused sojourn's snare as a basis for building Ram's snare. Might have been an oversight with sojourn originally, that ended up translating over to Ram in the rush to get the hero out.
Not even, just everyone because as a mercy player Niandra taught me well but idiots dont understand how to play mercy and yell at mercys for being good
This is such a good guide, has so much detail. I can tell just from this you’re a really smart player and think about the game in a really observant way. Thanks
A specific boost goal can be tricky since sometimes it’s not only up to you to achieve it. If your dps don’t know what to do and stand in the wild open it’s not a good idea to dmg boost because a dead dps does even less dps
I always find that the person I damage boost tends to immediately play worse than all other players on the field as soon as I boost them 😂 My key concern is always "My other support isn't healing as well as I am so I have to do it myself" and that is such a difficult mindset to get out of... This video has been fantastic, I'm glad it was recommended!
It's so true. I still find myself unintentionally stealing ult charge away from my support teammate when I could be damage boosting a dps or something instead.
@crystalkirby yeah I usually regret not keeping everyone well above half an example could be if my tank is half and he gets hooked and dies I will feel like he could have lived if I helped the other healer immediately heal him up and keep healing him until he walks back. Keeping the tank full seems so important on OW2 honestly especially since they are so hard to rez
@@dankdilly Yes, exactly! Though sometimes the double heal isn't enough if they've over extended or just hooked in an awful way... But then the healers get the blame there 😭I guess it's about picking the best time to heal too
2000-3000 dmg boost per 10 minutes... I maintain a pretty consistent 1k per minute overall output on Mercy. If output is happening at all times during that minute, then every minute you'd only need to dmg boost for 2 seconds (and have the player you're damage boosting use it) to meet that goal. In a 10 minute match, I find it usually comes out a little closer to dmg boosting for around 2 minutes straight and then healing the rest of the time.
I got flamed several times for ending a game with 6k healing while other supports had around 10-12k healing even though i was primarily damage boosting and pocketing a sojourn (our moira was the only one that defended me from the toxic tank that kept diving with low health)
i'd reccomend new players to not ignore the first point about DMG boosted per 10 but to take it with a large pinch of salt... maybe like a handful of salt. unless you somehow manage to place in plat or higher straight away, you're gonna be with low elo players who will both take more damage and do less damage than a more skilled player. this can often mean its better for you to be playing adaptably rather than playing mercy at her most "effective" as it may not actually be effective for your team!
I'll probably start playing mercy I've been meaning to get out of bronze as support as it makes me feel sad and I like being not sad and this guide has been pretty helpful
I don' t know if this works for everyone, but when I have an Ana or a Bap, I only heal tanks when they go crit and unless I am pocketing a DPS, I will do the same with them. When it comes to my sups, I always try to keep them healed if I can and will pocket them if they start to take too much pressure. If I have someone who has more limited heals such as Lucio or Moira then I will heal a lot more. Especially if I see my team outranging the Lucio or if I see Moira bottoming out a lot. When it comes to Brig, Zen, Tiktok Moiras and Reddit Lucios, then I gauge by their position or the teams to see if I need to step up to do a bit more on the heals front. You can still do main heals on Mercy if needed, but it is definitely a major struggle and will cut into your damage boosting. Please note that I am a lower ranked player so I expect I will have to adjust my playstyle significantly as I climb.
Phenomenal Video! Really well done. I kinda just wanted to find out the damage percentages and what thresholds damage boost lets characters cross (workshop lets you Nano yourself easily but not mercy boost) but ended up learning a lot about mercy.
I litterally only heal if someone is critical health. Unless I'm the only support in for that moment, a couple examples would be, if our ana dies or loses Los or even if I notice ana can't heal someone because of a shield. Also, if the fight ends I'm usually checking score board and see my other support having ult, I try to steal the heals then so at least someone gets ult charge from the heals
Nice video as always. Do you know that moment when you bluebeam a teammate peaking widow basically letting them glow up so everyone sees them? Or friendly widow trying to flank? Or accidently doing that on cloaked sombra running by. So much to look out for. XD
as a rein main in OW1 and mercy main in OW2 i find it ridiculous you need to dmg boost for fire strike kills if your able to land both, personally i think there should be a mini buff added to anyone who was hit by the first fire strike take more dmg on the second within 3 seconds so you can still pick up the kill you deserve for hitting two fire strikes without a mercy boost
This channel is where I will direct all toxic healbot/battle mercys in the future. Thank you for making an idiot proof explanation of mercy play. As soon as they flame, I'll just tell them they need to watch more Niandra and mute them. Thank you.
Got a big problem after trying to damage boost more often. My team is telling me off for using it, and even reporting me! Even though I still have more healing beam usage than damage boost currently, I'm being accused of throwing for daring to use damage boost at all
What should I do if the Tank is calling to be heal pocketed, but the Dps are unable to finish picks? If I pocket the dps, the tank will fall (especially if the other support is pouring healing into the dps as well), but if I'm just focusing on patching up the tank, our team damage suffers. I've gotten "heal diff"s often after encountering these types of games
only boost when the person's health is high. the most important aspect of mercy is to learn how to master her flight LShift. to me this separates the pros from the average mercys.
the only reason pocketing one ally mainly is seen as bad is because of all the annoying e couples 😭 especially when the mercy is entitled as someone who as fallen victim to e couples with enemy mercy or when the mercy never damage boost or heals anyone else but pocketing is very powerful
My biggest problem is the other support isn't doing that well... I feel like I never get to play mercy anymore because it feels like a waste to healbot with her.. especially when your team is getting wiped no matter how much you heal
For almost all mercy players in top500 the amount of dmg amped varies from 1500 to 1900 per 10 min approximately. Getting over 2000 seems pretty impossible in 5v5, even tho in ow1 it was the standard
This is probably *the* mercy video I'd recommend to new mercy players. A simple shift in mindset from 'healer' to 'support' as a mercy makes all the difference. Great vid, subscribed :)
Niandra, I've never seen a clip of you playing as pink mercy, and idk if you stream, if you do i also never watched it lol, but i was wondering, do you have this skin?
Flying, attaching beam and jumping backwards is gotta be one of the best new techs. It's simple, extremely useful and it just feels good to pull off
are we even considering this a tech though? i remember mercy tech being complex in ow1
@@chloejeon1133 It was definitely far more complex in OW1, and probably not even an intentional design. It's one of the few changes I like in OW2.

@@Scarifar1 I've lost count of how many times I've done it to Ana team mates... But sometimes they can't aim! 😭 I hope we both get there
@crystalkirby yeah I usually regret not keeping everyone well above half an example could be if my tank is half and he gets hooked and dies I will feel like he could have lived if I helped the other healer immediately heal him up and keep healing him until he walks back. Keeping the tank full seems so important on OW2 honestly especially since they are so hard to rez
@@dankdilly Yes, exactly! Though sometimes the double heal isn't enough if they've over extended or just hooked in an awful way... But then the healers get the blame there 😭I guess it's about picking the best time to heal too
this cracked me up 😭 16:13
Thanks for this video!! It's extremely helpful ♥
Thank you these tips are helpful. Only recently became a mercy main and these help
Uhm it’s weird how the new mercy skin is her thumbnail this is way before we new about it
same with a video which had lifeguard on its thumbnail around 6-8 months before the skin released and its literally a 1 to 1 copy ingame?
they prob changed the thumbnail at some point
about to send this to every healbot mercy in my ranked games, ty niandra💕
gorgeous guide! very clear & concise. Thank you ♥
thank you fellow mercy main!!
I think when people start learning how to play mercy for overwatch 2 she is going to end up being the best support in the game
Quick dmg boost tip,, if the enemy has a tracer nearby, then pocket a dps like junkrat or hanzo to let them 1shot the tracer
My brain got reworked so that "Secondary" is what I feel like hitting first on most heros. (I played primarily snipers and mercy.)
15:50 found a typo! love the editing btw!
Love your videos they are so informative and funny as well!!!!
Such a good video. I really appreciate the depth and tone.
I'm just here because of the amount of times I've tried to damage boost a dva nuke or tire and I just go "oh right-"
Been looking for a guide like this, thanks!
I'm constantly switching from dmg and heal because my DPS is frequently under half health so I hardly ever get above 50/50.
Happy new year! Love you 🎉
Merry Christmas Niandra 🎄
I'll probably start playing mercy I've been meaning to get out of bronze as support as it makes me feel sad and I like being not sad and this guide has been pretty helpful
mom get the camera im in the video, also merry Christmas gamer
Not pocketing a Symmetra this season is a crime 🤨
im getting exactly 60-40 ratio in almost every game
this channel inspired me to become a Mercy main
30 percent damage increase. Math can help with rest.
Even though I still have more healing beam usage than damage boost currently, I'm being accused of throwing for daring to use damage boost at all
Can you damage boost magnetic granade after it sticks?
Yep!
Amazing guide, now all i need is teammates that can aim so i dont waste my time with dmg boost
Thanks so much. I will become an even better mercy now!
merry christmas and happy upload day!
The everyone needs to be at 100% by me is my biggest mistake, but im working on it :)
You actually can get ult charge from damage boosting bob unless it was changes very recently
Mercy is def my worst support since I play really aggressively but these vids are super helpful
Great video. Thanks as always. 🥰
great vid, thanks for sharing!
i love playing mercy but my team always insults my manhood when i do
This is probably *the* mercy video I'd recommend to new mercy players. A simple shift in mindset from 'healer' to 'support' as a mercy makes all the difference. Great vid, subscribed :)
Amazing guide!
Thanks!! This was actually soo helpful !!!! >.
I rarely get over 1k damage boosted cuz i feel like every time I damage boost, they can't hit. Maybe I'm just unlucky
Niandra, I've never seen a clip of you playing as pink mercy, and idk if you stream, if you do i also never watched it lol, but i was wondering, do you have this skin?
Soooo any tips when you're solo healing and no one seems to understand things like placement and cooperation?
Another very useful video, thanks for the gift :)
