Awesome lecture, been watching John's stuff for a while now. I would just like to point out, that after bringing a PDF into Inkscape, select *Path* from the menu and select *Object To Path*, then export to DXF/DWG. When you import that file into Sketchup you will get all of the document including text, measurements, everything excluding images.

Thanks for sharing. Brilliant presentation. Clear and full of useful tips. I've used 3D to trouble shoot many designs of all types (not just the buildings) and I think he is doing a fantastic job

Solid presentation. Lots of good stuff and some excellent advise and tips. I appreciate the work John has done and continues to do and his advocacy for SketchUp in the construction industry.

Thank you Nathaniel and thanks for the amazing products you have developed to give us all the ability to do this using SketchUp!

I know this is a few years ago, wondering if there is anything for block walls, I'm in Florida and we do a lot of block exterior walls. Thanks

Site stuff is amazing. Watch an old DIY program , saw the shotcrete truck get stuck at the bottom of a mountain driveway hairpin. Cost the builder $$$ after having to bust out a foundation's hot pour!

So that when you do the site terrian they will come in their correct elevations? because now I'm making the terrain and I need to move my floor plan drawings to their correct location and I cant find an accurate way to do this. Thanks! take a look at the demo model and tutorials on my website www.estimatorforsketchup.com, I go step by step estimating a building from foundation up. Feel free to email me at john@estimatorforsketchup.com with any questions

I have a question, I'm working on a large floor plan I want to work on a bedroom at one end of the house when I orbit around to get a better view of a particular wall the whole model rotates in the room is off screen is there anyway around this. Or can I orbit around a particular object within that house. I am working in SketchUp Make 2017 on a Mac.

I swear by my 3D mouse (www.3dconnexion.com) I have one for each computer and really hate working without it - makes navigation smooth and fast.

Use PAN to slide the model back on screen . Pan is available using the mouse while pressing and holding the center mouse button (as you would while orbiting) HOLD shift and move the mouse to pan. RELEASE shift and orbit returns, etc. The idea is to use ORBIT, ZOOM AND PAN all from the mouse fluidly.

@@Krupster_architect I agree, I should have recommended native SU tools, as you suggested, to start with, a good skill to master!

Whenever I import my DWG from Illustrator it won’t let me scale the drawing up. Anyone know why I’m having this issue? Thanks!

    32:00 Connect Edges!
Like my everyday while learning. Drawing and modeling fixes problems before they happen, if you can fix the problem with drawing! Irony?
