Thanks Aaron. Lots of good tricks here not isolated to architectural modelly, like the Unglue (which has frustrated me many times), the priority of faces and the use of a transparent surface, grouping the line ad image and scaling the group with the tape measure tool and a section plane to hide the lower objects so they do not distract from the task. Excellent.

Wow! I'm new to this trying to model some house changes - this was really good and helpful. Especially the way you showed how to deal with the unexpected which is a real problem for a starter, thanks,

Hey Aaron. Thanks for all the great tips the Architectural Modeling Series. I liked how you explained how to create both 2D & 3D visual options within components. This spurred two different questions that I have had. One came from your 2D & 3D door example, which is, can you make the arc line a hidden line (dotted) instead of solid. The second question is, how can I create column lines in my plans so that I can not only view them but use them as a constant reference in my model. Thanks, Mark

To only view the second floor, instead of going through the effort of creating a new layer (and making sure everything is layered properly or on/off as needed) or creating a section plan, you could just HIDE the lower floor. I set my own commands for sketchup, so I have a 'hide' and an 'unhide' shortcut for my keyboard.

All right, next step: Roofs? Would like to know how to do both gables and hips integrated together. Also, I would suggest ordering the playlist in such way that it flows from the first video through the seventh one in sequence. Thanks!

  • @HariSankerV

Instead of creating a whole new layer just for the bottom reference image or creating a section, isn't it easier to just hide it? I use the customized shortcuts of Ctrl+H for 'Hide' and Ctrl+Shitft+H for 'Unhide Last'. This really speeds up my workflow

  • @sonnyprod201

    Hello Aaron,
One thought is to actually draw 2nd floor walls layer above the imported image and then group, select, copy and paste over the first floor.

Hey Aaron. Again, this is such an awesome series. Many thanks to you for your efforts to put this together for everyone. I always come away with some valuable tidbit or three from every video you guys present. The "unglue" option was particularly valuable as I run into that all the time. Thank you, thank you! I would love to practice these techniques but don't have an image of a construction plan I can import. Is it possible for you to share your drawings? If so, I can provide my email address if you need it. Thanks again.

My workflow would be : Group everything on first floor and assign that group to "First Floor" layer, then hide that layer while modeling second floor is much faster for me because i don't have to turn off/on another layer back and forth.

Great Job. I own a scaffolding company. What is the most efficient way to array a scaffolding bay (6'7" high x 10' long - already made as a component or group) around the exterior walls of the structure both horizontally and vertically? Given its 3 in the morning you can appreciate the need for an explanation....Thanks in advance.
