Oddly enough, I prefer the swing's (Killian Donnelly) version. His last note wasn't forced at all. Of course, JOJ and Alfie Boe are part of my top 3, what with how effortless they make it sound. The #johnvskillian in the end is adorable. :-)
Thank you for posting this - it is so interesting to compare their top B. I don't mean that in a critical way as they are all good. I do have a preference for those who can hit it without falsetto though - just my personal preference, sounds more "heroic".
I know it's heresy to not love Colm but I personally like the Gary Morris recording of Valjean the best. However, Boe crushes that high note every time.
I love the squeak on Colm's from the TAC...I know a lot of people hate it, but I love it. Alfie is amazing, but his voice is way too clean and operatic - I think Valjean's character needs a voice that's a little dirty. I think John-Owen Jones has the perfect timbre.
Vidikal Gyula...I probably spelt his last name wrong. Hungarian metal singer who went into musicals and operas. Known for his deep baritone voice he was for some reasob cast in the tenor role of Jean Valjean...he gave up on hitting the high notes.
Alfie, hands down. Because this is so high (Bb?) some of the Valjeans use falsetto, which just does not work here. Some go softer, because they can't pump out the volume. And that doesn't work either. And quite a few, you wonder if they're going to hit it at all. Alfie hits it, holds it, and pumps the volume without a moment of doubt. At 3:33... was he being stabbed by any chance?
John Owen Jones - Very good Geronimo Raunch - Very good Thomas Borchert - Bad Colm Wilkinson - Nice try Alfie Boe - Amazing David Shannon - WTF Simon Bowman - Are you kidding? Randal Keith - Not good Drew Sarich - Good Fred Inkley - Good Killian Donnelly - Ok Ramin Karimloo - Good Christoper Jacobsen - Good Tim Godwin - Awesome David Shannon - Horror-awful J Mark McVey - Bad Gary Morris - Bad Jeff Leyton - Bad Vikidal Gyula - Best ever
Colm is THE Val Jean but it's really hard to not be in love with Ramin's voice. He is just something special. Alfie is technically incredible but I just don't get any emotion from him. I feel like he sings everything the same. It's still great. But Ramin sings very well and acts better. And Colm can just do no wrong in my eyes (that first version on here of his maybe being the exception)
THE HUNGARIAN VALJEAN AT THE END IS MY FAV
Valjean scream HAHAHAHAHA
I'm cackling all the way through the ending. The last guy tho XD
Also, I love how you put so many JOJ versions in here, he's my favorite!
1. Colm Wilkinson
2. Alfie Boe
3. John Owen-Jones
Alfie Boe's top B is breathtaking. It's incredibly powerful and clean.
Ramin Karimloos voice is so powerful and clean!!
I had assumed after reading a few comments asking about the final clip that it would be Vikdal Gyulas version.
you did not dissapoint me.
The best was definitely Colm Wilkinson at the 10th Anniversary
David Shannon's from 2012 sounded like he pulled a muscle.

THE END IM CRYING

JOJ al the way

Don't falsetto that shit. -.-

OH MY GOD THE END

JOJ best ever~~~~~
Also Ramin and Colm
That last one was the best. Ahhhhhhhnnnd
love how none of the shots/photos of the actual scene
Geronimo Rauch all the way! I saw him twice in London and he was phenomenal!
JOHN OWEN JONES ALL THE FREAKING WAY
*can you do more comparisons with newer people? E.g. bring him home or on my own?:)
The end was a Eb5 - 4 half notes higher then the original, but it was sung in falsetto so...
What the hell was that at the end?
Ed Vega The single greatest thing ever recorded.
Vidikal Gyula...I probably spelt his last name wrong. Hungarian metal singer who went into musicals and operas. Known for his deep baritone voice he was for some reasob cast in the tenor role of Jean Valjean...he gave up on hitting the high notes.
Epic!
0:51 That 6 looks like a 5 ngl

4) John and Killian :) they are so adorable
Also, the tuning of that recording is a bit sharp. Does anyone know why that is?
Who was the guy at the end???
Alfie is amazing
John Owen Jones and Geronimo Rauch

I'm gonna be the odd man out here and say my favorite is Drew Sarich 😌
Drew is incredible but n anything he is in.
Colm!!!!!!!! I couldn't imagine trying to hit that 8 times a week!
Who here knows a lyric so much that u know in other languages you have no idea what they're saying

Technically speaking I would say Alfie but my personal favorite is ramin
Geronimo, alfie boe and ramin!

The ending is VERY scary! Suitable for a horror movie!!!
Ramin and JOJ
JOJ and Geronimo Rauch!
colm all the way 😀😀😀
Geronimo all the way, so controlled
JOJ followed by Ramin
Yikes Colm... Bit of a fail on the first attempt.
Ramin Karimloo all the way!
Alfie... hands down
Colm Wilkinson is the best imo
Here's the thing about Colm......the way he let's it break at the end is pure magic. It tells the story so much better.
JOJ - G.RAUCH - RAMIN - A.BOE
im impress finding so much people giving Ramin the props...... i think is nowhere near the 50% of Alfie BOw
Colm would be better if that voice crack wasn’t there. Otherwise him, Drew, and Ramon are superior
Colm of course
I prefer joj in this instead of poto
David fail.
John Owen Jones - Very good
Geronimo Raunch - Very good
Thomas Borchert - Bad
Colm Wilkinson - Nice try
Alfie Boe - Amazing

Randal Keith - Not good
Drew Sarich - Good

David Shannon - Horror-awful
J Mark McVey - Bad
Gary Morris - Bad
Jeff Leyton - Bad
Vikidal Gyula - Best ever

Jeff Leyton is Great wdym?
Colm colm colm

Colm Wilkinson is easily one of my least favorite Valjeans.
Mathew Hutchins You again. You literally trolled every single Colm Valjean related video.
@@Ihdc1 Kinda like how Colm fans troll every single Alfie Boe video?
