- Violet vs purple? What is the difference?
Violet and purple are both colors on the color wheel, or are they? Is there a difference?
Violet is the light with wavelength from 380nm to 450nm whereas purple is a combination of Red and Blue. Purple has no wavelength which means it has no light. They look similar simply because our brains and eyes are incapable of perceiving the difference.

I wish I could double subscribe by hitting that button again because this has greatly changed my perception of colors. I feel like I’ve been colorblind to the science of colors until your videos started popping up in my feed. Your videos are as entertaining as they are educational. Honestly you could make a Netflix worthy series out of this. I cannot wait to see what topics you explore and educate us on next.
Please don't hit that subscribe button again
The reason why violet appears on the visible spectrum is because our s cones have a slight bump of sensitivity to long wavelengths as well. Thus we can see a tertiary colour beyond the final primary of the spectrum.
I get the point that only violet has a wavelength, but purple still exists.
Great video man. Very funny & informative. Can’t wait to see more.
Yes but just because it's naturally - occurring like flowers can it not be that they are red and blue in tiny amounts and we see bluish-purple? Violet being a unique single wave frequency and not a blend 🤔 how can we know.. there must be a way
Oh boy you are fantastic!! I wish you much much luck to grow faster
Just watched almost all of your videos and conclusion is..
you have information you talk on point (bit awkwardly sarcastic 😅) your editing is descent . Keep learning and providing ❣️❣️
Thank you so much! Seeing this comment this morning made my entire day. Stay tuned, more videos will be coming soon ;)
वाह... आज समझ मे आया... आपकी प्रस्तुति शानदार है.....Keep it up
Thank you chacha! ❤️
I just discovered this video today, and honestly, I felt like I was going crazy. I knew that purple and violet were separate colors, but when I looked for the color purple, it almost always is referring to violet. I’m not entirely sure if that’s the whole purpose of this video, but thank you nonetheless.
your editing is fantastic!
Hey thank you so much. I was actually writing a comment on your reddit post when you commented haha. Loved your new video!
@@isanskari haha thank you!
I've been trying to comment some clever shit for like 10 minutes. I give up.
Good Video :)
Lol thanks
99.99% people can not see the color named [[ vinon ]] and u people had not even heard the name of this color
Can you explain ultramarine, purple and magenta next please.... Btw new subscriber here
Ultramarine is a spectral color that is halfway between Blue and Violet, Purple is a combination of Red and Blue, or Red and Violet light, or Cyan/Blue and Magenta pigment. Magenta is exactly halfway between Blue and Red and is a combination of these colors in equal parts, with light that is. Magenta as a pigment is a primary color and impossible to reproduce, like Yellow and Cyan.
Waiting for a colab with Timetacious 🥰
Woh bade log hum jaise chhote youtubers ko chance kab denge 🙏😭

I had A good time.
Thanks for watching 😁
Violet can be portrayed with RGB; if we couldn’t portray it then we wouldn’t be able to see it, because our cones correspond to red, green and blue. We can see wavelengths slightly longer and slightly shorter than our cones actually correspond to. Like, the primary red is slightly more orangey then the red at the very start of the rainbow, the longest wavelengths we can perceive slightly activate our S cones, same with violet, it’s a tertiary colour, made with 2 parts blue and 1 part red. ‘Purple’ refers to dark magenta, not bluish-magenta.
True violet does not have red or blue. It’s it’s own color. However humans just see it as purple which is a mix of red and blue not to be confused with violet.
@@JR-ho5qm no that is not true, yes it is it’s ‘own colour’ since it has its own hue but it contains 2/3 blue, 1/3 red.
@@ethanalgicosathlonchannel1110I also always thought violet was a shade of purple closer to the blue side, but true violet has neither red or blue in it. Look up true violet
@@ethanalgicosathlonchannel1110Imitation Violet is 2/3 Blue, and 1/3 Red but true Violet is neither Blue nor Red. Just like imitation Cyan is 1/2 Green and 1/2 Blue, but true Cyan is neither.
Broooooo finally. I never did understand the difference between purple and violet. It has been so long and so many sleepless nights. Thank you so much for your assistance in this situation.
Always here to help 😌
Keep it up
Thank you!

I love this so much. But also I feel like I’ve been lied to my whole life by being told that violet and purple are the same thing.
