  • Colbinabbin Renewable Action Group spokesperson John Davies says local residents who are opposing a planned solar farm aren’t concerned about the farm itself, but rather the fact it is going to be built on the “best land” they have.
A massive 800 hectar solar farm is planned for the Heathcote wine region in central Victoria.
Outraged local wine producers have formed the Colbinabbin Renewable Action Group representing around 60 businesses, farmers and residents in protest.
“There is no problem with a solar farm in our area,” Mr Davies told Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt.
“As the Victorian Farmers Federation identifies, only four per cent of Australian land mass is arable.
“This massive solar plant is going to be smack in the middle of land that is identified by the Campaspe Shire as strategically important for agriculture.
“Put it on marginal land, but don’t put it on the best land that we have.”
