As a Michigander who has been going to this park since about 1982 I must say this... I was there for the opening week of most of the risky coasters. The reason why I keep coming back and then introducing my children and now grandchildren is one thing that isn't mentioned much... SAFETY. When I go to this park I know that they have inspected, passed and inspected again. I am buckled in tight and allowed to let myself be free on rides without worry. The thrills are wonderful.. but I think this park also is the best in making sure that the guests are taken care of on the ground and in the air. I will continue to go and ride as long as my legs and body will let me. At age 53 I'm still going to stand in line, ride the Magnum x3 in a row.., ride the FORCE... get tossed about on Maverick and then do the hang time on Raptor.... life complete :)...... until next year..... rinse repeat... The park never gets old.

    • @powerfulcornelius3285
      @powerfulcornelius3285 Год назад

I love Cedar Point, but you get the same feel of safety at all the Major Parks. You should explore more and experience different parks and coasters. A woman was nearly killed by Top Thrill Dragster in 2021, and a man was killed by Raptor even though it was complete his fault. Don’t be locked in to one park out of fear of safety because you are missing out. I have been to several parks since Cedar Point and they all feel like quality and safety. Disney, Universal and Bush Gardens don’t play around. The last thing they want is news about a injured guest on a ride.

i worked at cedar point the year the magnum xl opened - 1989. worked in the dishroom at the marina restaurant. some long days, but the off hours were amazing. had a lot of fun there. had been going to cedar point my whole life, but that was the first time i'd walked through the park when it was almost empty. after closing, with very few people around, it was surreal. i still remember that summer very fondly. my favorite coasters are the magnum, and the blue streak. cedar point - America's roller coast.

One of the struggles I think CP will face over the years in truly making it a destination park (which it totally deserves to be) is the area immediately surrounding it. I remember the first time I went to CP and I was shocked by the seemingly low land value on Cleveland Ave by the Thirsty Pony.

CP has been buying up a decent amount of property along its entrances and its renewed focus on its "resort" properties (including the yet to open sawmill) is its way of controlling that. It can truly only do so much so quickly, but its definitely working that way. They didn't have the luxury of owning a swamp and controlling the entire experience like Disney did.

Great video. A key point, which you mentioned only briefly, is that Cedar Point is landlocked… they’re fully built-out on the Cedar Pt peninsula. So in a discussion of “risks” they take, we have to consider the trade-off between removing popular attractions and nostalgic attractions (Vintage Cars, Log Ride, etc) to make the room necessary for new rides. I think Cedar Pt does a GREAT job in this regard.

I’ve been saying this for a while. It’s been clear that the days of the Kinzel era of adding bold new attractions is over. Cedar Point is shifting its focus to round out the experience at the park and fully commit to a destination park. This is not a bad thing at all, they will obviously still get a big coaster but it will probably be every 4-5 years now. Cedar Point and Kings Island were the #1 things I was excited about when I moved to Ohio as a teenager. Really they're the only things that makes me want to stay (well for half the year anyways) because I HATE the cold. I have thoosie kids now and we get platinum passes and go to one or the other (and honestly a lot of weeks both) at least once a week during the operating season. I'm finally going to splurge this year and get the all season platinum fast lane for us, so I'm super excited. It just never gets old. Even though CP is twice as far (2 hours vs 1) as Kings Island, we still go there just as much. Nothing like going to Kings Island on a Saturday, getting home at 1am, and heading out to Cedar Point at 7am on Sunday. We've even done Friday at Cedar Point, Saturday and Sunday at Kings Island, and Monday at Cedar Point once. Probably the best 4 days ever.
I'm a bit nervous about the future. It seems they're really going the whole experience route and that really doesn't do much for us since were so close, but as long as they are throwing in some new world class coasters every few years at each park I'll stay happy. I just hope that they don't price us out with several hundred dollar platinum passes and 1500 year long fast lane as they go with a more upscale future.
Anywho, keep making great content. Always a joy when you upload.

It took advance booking and lots of planning ahead, but we had the opportunity to ride everything we wanted with the options to take things as fast or as slow as we needed. One day certainly wouldn’t have been enough. That’s different from my home park Kings Island, that’s an easy single day experience that can be done almost on a whim. While planning I certainly felt Cedar Point was at least a step beyond the typical theme park vacation experience. I think that may actually be a good thing for this region of the country. We are seeing the aftermath of the end of the Dick Kinzel era. One thing I noticed was that no only did he add a lot of coasters to the park, but he never removed them, even if they weren't great. He wanted record breakers and he wanted the park to hold the title for most roller coasters. But we are seeing a shift. Cedar Point wants to be the place that families can go and have a good time. I remember discussions on Guide to the Point (now Pointbuzz) where parents admitted that the park was great for adults and enthusiasts, but there wasn't much for kids that weren't tiny. So we are seeing a shift to overall entertainment. Great video, as always. I still think you're the best channel focused on coasters on RUclips.

When I was young, I could ride Iron Dragon and Disaster Transport fairly early since I think they were 36" height requirements. Now Iron Dragon is 48"? Why? You're 100% surrounded by the ride vehicle and there are no negative g forces at all. All I can ride with them is Woodstock Express and whatever they are calling Junior Gemini now. It'll probably be another year, maybe two and then most of the park will open up.

I first visited at about 8 yrs old around 1973. I used to go once a year on average, until about 1984. I haven't been in a couple decades. I'm glad I finally bought the Gold Pass, Meals Pass and Drink Pass for 2022. They open May 7th this year and I'm already planning between 15 and 22 visits for the year. If you're able to make at least 5 visits per season, buying all the aforementioned passes is a no-brainer. They just raised the daily admission by $10 for 2022 and the Gold Pass also covers unlimited parking for the year, which is $20 per visit. So, a single visit to CP is going to cost you $85 plus $20, and that's nit counting food and drinks. The food prices are sort of high and the beverages are outrageous. It's $135 for an annual Meal Pass. It's $34.99 for an annual Drink Pass. The meals are lunch and dinner....4 hrs required between the two meals. A single soda is $4.49. A typical meal costs $15 or so. NOT all the food places are eligible for the meal plans! Two meals per visit and say 4 drinks and that's $47.96. If I went to Cedar Point just 10 times this year, that's $479.60 in consumed food and drinks, $850 worth of single day admissions, and $200 in parking fees all covered in advance by just buying the 3 passes I mentioned for just a few hundred dollars in advance. Like I said no-brainer. $1,529.60.....is what all the food drinks and fees would cost for 10 visits. If I go 20 times, we're over $3,000! So yeah, a few hundred bucks up front is worth it, but only if you're sure you'll actually keep going there. There are NO refunds, even if caused by the Covid nonsense.

I too have been a long time visitor. I think '78 is my earliest memories (the summer I turned 8), though I know I was there before then. I bought my first season pass in 1986. Can't say I've bought them ever since, but I've had them a number of times through the years. I don't really look at the math the same way though because there is added value when you can come and go as you please. For example I'd frequently go out on weekday evenings after work when crowds are lighter, but wouldn't even consider that if I had to pay gate admission. Or (with a Platinum Pass) take advantage of early entry and leave by noon when the crowds start getting really thick. I've also never had a drink pass or meal plan. Because, I frequently will eat at home or on the way in or out since a open to close day is quite rare for me. I think the menu is a little narrow for my tastes and I'm afraid I'd get tired of eating the same things. I also don't like waiting in lines for food and I've seen some crazy long lines for food the past few years. As for the drink plan, I know I need water, not pop on those hot days so I usually grab the little free cups of ice water at the drink stands. After a few hours, I go to my vehicle (I usually park back by the Magnum entrance) where I have a cooler packed with my favorite beverage which is a coke product that isn't available in the park. Anyway I just crank the air conditioning for a bit while I take a break. Very refreshing!

@@PureBlood42 I sure do remember. I have to say I don’t fault the park for their removal. In the case of Earthquake I think they put Berenstain Bears in there so going after a family approach is nothing new. It’s harder when they close stuff like Pirate Ride and don’t really add anything new. I think I may have only done the fun house one time. I was easily scared and a remember a really dark section with a slight drop in the floor that freaked me out. Do you remember when the removed the Funhouse?

@@timk987- Oh....I was actually freaked out by that metal curved slide upon exiting the Funhouse. The heels of my sneakers would rub the metal and I'd feel stuck. I quickly discovered that I am claustrophobic as a result of that enclosed slide. I remember that floor drop spot...what made it even a bit hazardous, was the darkened room with the black lights effect. Remember your white cotton shoelaces, etc. would glow purple? I want to say the Funhouse closed right around 1980 or maybe 81. I'm almost certain the Earthquake stayed longer and I think the Pirate was maybe last to go? Here's a true story....my (now late) Father once took me there for the whole day, just the two of us, it was a great time. I was about 12 yrs old. But, unfortunately...these two guys about 17 yrs old, rode behind us on the Pirate Ride and one of them hockered on the back of my head. Dad was like 5' 6" but was very fit and had anger issues and a fuse shorter than Himself. I tried to keep him from knowing it happened because I knew he'd do something bad. But He could read me like a book and upon exiting the ride, insisted to know what happened. Next thing I know, He's got the bigger dude dangling upside down over that little ocean scene with the booms and splashes of artificial cannonfire. The other guy took off and left his friend for dead, and pop just roughed the taller one up....like catch and release or whatever He called it back in the day. Lol. I digress, the rest of the day was really great.
I have so many memories of that day at Cedar Point. Mostly good ones.

@@PureBlood42 I didn’t my the Funhouse slide, I think the slide was what made me want to walk through in the first place. Thanks for sharing the Pirate Ride story. As I think about it, I bet as the years went on it was harder and harder to keep people in the ride vehicles. You know once kids know the ride they have to make their own fun by getting out and scaring their friends in the “boat” behind them. I’m sure as a park they didn’t want to become notorious for throwing people out so they threw the rides out instead. I think your order of removal is spot on. I defiantly remember the Pirate Ride the most, but surprisingly I can’t recall a single scene from inside. Probably because I rode it into my early teenage years so the number of times make the memories blur together and toward the end I was pretty much riding just to escape the heat.

Dragster may come down after the accident that happened. 2. Velocicoaster at Universal is one of the best coasters I have ever been on. 3. CP lacks a multiple launch coaster like the Velocicoaster, and that may be a good direction to go. Fantastic ride in a confined, land-locked area 4. Would love them to start having more interactive lines like you see at Universal. Makes the wait much, much better. 5. A 500 foot coaster would be difficult because of geography. More likely to happen at a park that can use a cliff or large hill to minimize the structure needed. New sub. great video

The best thing they can do is invest in the user experience and make people want to stay 2-3 days - so they already have a sufficiently extensive theme park and water park, but need to bolster their food and entertainment options, as well as their hotel options.

There are other cheaper options of course, but they don't have the convenience of the beach/park. If u want to stay there, check out the monthly payment plans that can help. We stayed at thier CP express. Not quite the same but good for a weekend. If your family is into camping, stay at their camp site. that's the way to go. I also suggest taking the jet express to Kellys Island and Put in Bay. Nice excursions.

    Greetings from India (again)
I think Cedar Point must start building more dark rides and some other family-oriented experiences for non-thrill seekers that come to the park. For example, I am a thrill seeker who would rush to steel vengeance, but when I go to theme parks with my dad who hates coasters and thrill rides, he has nothing to do. If Cedar Point invested in some more family-oriented experiences, it would help attract the family and children crowd and would lead to non thrill seekers to give the park a shot. After all, almost every single thrill seeker has gone to cedar point when they got the chance, so to increase their revenue, they can only attract the non-thrill seekers who want a unique experience they can get nowhere else.

The closest park to me is Universal Hollywood, then Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, and Disneyland Resort. If I'm going to spend the night, it's a Disneyland (and that's a once every couple years treat). One item to consider that Cedar Point has an advantage on is being on the peninsula and it could be an hours long drive to get home. That's exhausting after a full day of walking and adrenalin. Makes a lot of sense to lean into a diversity of attractions (and thrills) so each member of the family can feel like they got something out of a multi-day trip.
