- On the 21st of January 2023 I was asked to perform at Frome's long running underground, experimental music night, Breezeblock Beats. This was my first performance as BAD WORKMAN. Driving to Frome was a challenge through dangerously dense fog but we were delighted to find the venue was suitably mysterious, The Secret Cellar, French Trading!
Thanks to Andrew and gang for inviting me. Видеоклипы
That was amazing! And totally new to my ears 😆 What a refreshing malfunction in our daily boring routine... Thank you very much!
Haha I like that! Thank you!
Superrrrr!
Cooooooollll!!!!
Love that bass. Giving my speakers a nice workout 😁
That’s my mission!
I think this perform is really good, and personnaly most probabily the best modular act I heard ever. You have a signature sound there that pleases me a lot. Thanks for sharing :)
That’s an unbelievably kind thing to say thank you!
Gaz from an alternative universe! There is so much to love here but the minimalistic chaos of 4:00 made me smile from ear to ear.
Aww I am delighted to read this thanks!
thats a wicked set, nice one. Your right, that stand is very cool.
Yeah!My Damaru case in full That Stay stand works so unbelievably well with it
Love it!!!
Ha! It’s a bit of an evil mess to inflict on those nice people there though
That's awesomely chunky Gaz! Love it! X
Coming from you these words are amplified by a thousand. Thank you!

lovely performance, great visuals :)
Aww thanks Tom!
“Escape From Synth Cave”… it feels like the setting and the visuals were influencing your creativity, to great effect. (Got to live a dark underground club 🤪)
A fine showing of live, improvised music! The visuals were a feast too. Bravo ❤
Wowza! Thanks! Yes getting out in front of very receptive people is just the tonic!
👏👏👏 well done Gaz, sounded great, cool video projections too!
Ok. Now you got it!!!
Getting there but thanks!
Great stuff, loving the folky flute sounds and people danced!
Thanks Robin, total freestyle gig with no idea what I’m doing!
@@GazWilliams sounded like you knew what you were doing though!!
you rocked it I like it👍
So lovely to hear thank you!
This is awesome to watch 🔥💖🇨🇦
Thank you
The Headmaster looked suitably impressed despite the unperceivable PWM.
He was kind of ok about it. Preferred the start apparently
Most excellent Gaz!!
Yay! Ta!
Wild session Gaz! …great tune..love the lighting effects
Yeah litigating made a huge difference. Cheplins on visuals!
cool show
Was a blast thanks!
Was expecting some typical freaky deaky 'hippy' type stuff, how wrong could i have been? Enjoyed that immensely, more of that twisted electro dub vibe going forward!🤘
Hey that’s dead cool to hear thanks!
Most welcome
a bass player is a bass player ... yeah man
Always and forever!
Freaknoise at work 👏👏👏
Freaky and creaky!
Awesome set, Gaz! Love the changes of rhythm and interweaving textures! Bad Workman??? Ha! Skilled Operator, more like!
This is a lovely comment thanks!
Very cool! Would love to see a rig rundown… I’m new to this modular game and transitioning from one ‘jam’ to the next is proving to be tricky business.
I’ve covered this setup a bit in earlier livestreams but it’s evolving in new directions so I should do an update. Are there any EMOM gigs near you? Getting out and playing live is a good accelerator into modular I think
@@GazWilliams Cheers Gaz. I’ll look back on previous live streams… Yes there are EMOM gigs near me in Leeds but I keep missing the blighters! I’m doing loads of jamming with it but it all tends to be be centered around a single key and exploring textures within it. A mate of mine lives in Frome, I wonder if he was there?
cheers Gaz :)
X/🧀 Nice!
Excellent performance Gaz, the sounds and beats were spot on. So glad to see some movement on the dance floor, I’m sure that if you had played a bit longer Sonic Nick would have been shaking his body on down. Ace visuals too… I can see you really enjoyed it as much as the crowd.
P E A C E : )
Just trying to figure things out. But thank you though for very kind words
top quality stuff, -and while the crowd looked a little stiff, I say fairplay to the couple at the end who were feeling it.
- love to ALL, feel no hate
I felt sorry for the poor people trying to dance to THAT!
Looks and sounds proper dark! Love it Gaz. Was it modular only?
Yes entirely modular and utterly made up on the spot. Tempo, key everything. Real seat of the pants stuff!
Looks like Nick Batt in the front!
He was indeed there! He liked the beginning.
Love Gaz, but is there any need for that totally ridiculously prog-nerd macho-modular set up to get a simple bassline and a few beats going? You could do all that with an MC-505 25 years ago. Nice visuals.
Ha! Good point to be fair but maybe what makes it worthwhile is that I create absolutely everything from scratch here and had no idea prior to playing what on earth would come out. Think that would have been impossible to do on the those older boxes. I’m working with squiggles of voltage and trying to chaperone them in to something vaguely musical!
@@GazWilliams Dont get me wrong, I really liked the set and I appreciate the handcrafted sentiment but just how much do these bloody modules cost? And let's be honest, you can get a tune of almost anything electrical from an Xpelair to a Kenwood Chef.
As Martin Rushent once said about the Linndrum v traditional drum kit "just because you can knock a nail in with your bare hands doesn't make you a better carpenter; the smart guy uses a hammer". For me modular has always and will always be relevant - but at the moment it still represents an aesthetic craze for folks who see value in that ridiculous Teenage Engineering field desk. If you truly want to understand voltage then grab a Doeper Dark Time and hook it up to a semi-mod monosynth.
Top performance! Gr8 intro...... @GazWilliams plz upload to Bandcamp ...would like to support there
Ahh thanks so much!
