  • Recently Brighton's railway arch venue The Green Door Store, psychedelic outfit The Utopia Strong, featuring Kavus Torabi (Gong, Cardiacs, Knifeworld) Michael J. York (Coil, Guapo) and Steve Davis (yes, that Steve Davis, snooker legend and now music guru) performed.
Chris Black of nearby electronic duo Battery Operated Orchestra was kind enough to come along and ask questions.

What a great video. How friendly and open all three gentlemen are. No cooler-than-thou rock star swagger.

We can't say enough how completely transcendent these guys are live, an exhilarating, cleansing powerful joy to behold. If you get the chance to see them, take it! Even if you think it's not your thing. The albums are instantly classic works of beauty also.

Lol i was thinking steve davis the snooker player is in to synths that would be crazy. Then I realised that steve davis the snooker player was actually into synths. This kind of blew my mind💥

Eurorack audio bleed: Supplying an overabundance of power headroom with a PSU on every row got rid of my bleed issue.

Steve, where did those funky trim toppers on your SQ1s come from? By the way, I mounted mine into the rack, fairly simple thing to do, made up a cable to power via sub from the 5v feed on the eurorack bus, or usb from my DAW.

There are enough bleed free active mixers in eurorack, bleeds usually come from passive mults and stuff like that is my experience.

What a decent, and useful interview. Actually sayin g usefulk stuff aboiut their gear setups, instead of the usualk ''tell 'em everythingl, but tell them nothing'' approach which most other interviews tend towards. Gid forbid other people getting good!

One for Kavus - I've found the cheaper plastic Boss FV-50 volume pedal to be very good and surprisingly rugged.

about bleed "in mixers"... people please stop using (and buying) unshielded Euroract patch cables! Befaco, Doepfer, Black market modular (and probably many more) they all unshieded garbage! They will bleed, introduce noise...
