Oh boy! I had an intermittent electical problem that became more apparent the further we got along the NC500 route in Scotland. Bike was cutting out whenever I turned left... It became very much a permanent problem when the bike refused to start up in the middle of nowhere... Had to wait hours in the scorching 34°c summer heatwave to get a truck to take us home. Turns out the ECU to ignition cable had snapped inside the wiring loom around the steering head. Couple of crimps and some electrical tape and we were back on the road to complete the rest of the trip!
I had a similar issue on my bike a couple of years ago. I checked everything (or so I thought) and couldn't track it down. Then I realised there was a separate relay in the sidestand circuit (thank you Haynes!), hiding under the tank. I swapped that out and - touch wood - it has been fine since.
Any intermittent fault is a pain in the ass. From electrical to software to some noise on your car. If it's not consistently reproducible it's a pain to debug.
@@foxtrotoscar4284 Taken from this website; mechanicbase.com/electric/battery-terminal-corrosion/ Copper is a good conductor and does not corrode easily. However, when electric currents pass through the copper terminals, there is the production of copper sulfate, which leads to battery terminal corrosion. A bluish precipitate on the copper terminals can identify copper sulfate. Copper sulfate does not conduct electricity well, and that is why you will start experiencing trouble starting your car.
A simple enough fault a bit of grease around the batt terminals would hurt - the phrase your after is Occam’s razor, nice to see there sealed switches and not open contacts too

The last box of glowes I bought is black :P ,If you use ball bering grease on your battery terminals they wont corode and you will get good contact, I use it in scokets where wires are pluged into things that can get wet and it will over time corode but the grease will keep the wather away
Hi Spicy, Corrosion on the negative terminal is normally caused by the battery being under charged. Charge the battery now and then and it will help reduce this.
I hope those are JIS screwdrivers. I had an intermittent light failure while touring Spain. Fixing it needed a tank and airbox removal at the campsite using the Suzuki toolkit to find a corroded connector.
Spicy110 has bucket loads of vaseline.... ever since he received that blow up sheep 😜 but he won't admit to it ps years ago we used to put dollops of grease around the battery terminals - I've no idea why this isn't still practiced/used.
The thick Night Fog/Humidity of the uk causes it to oxidize Yes use Vaseline, Geese, or other agent to keep the humidity from oxidating cof the connection.
I think once its drys up at my end going to strip mine down and have a look at the Battery since I having some thing like this on and off for about 3 months only happens on the odd day
I had a bike that where the wires are soldered on the ignition base the soldier give up and evey now and again the wire moved enough to cut the power.. Took ages to find because to look at it was fine
It's due to the negative think like a magnet and iron filling positive pulls it towards the magnet and negative push it away or it could be the other way round but you get what I'm trying to say.

@ spicy i have a suzuki gsxs 750z my front brake when applied isnt engaging my brake light. I changed the switch and have touched the wires still nothing at all my rear switch works fine. Any help would be appreciated need to get thru my mot. There is continuity going thru when i checked it. What sort of voltage would i expect. It previously worked then stopped completely
Voltage depends on the type of light you have, Incandescent is likely going to be 12v but if it's LED it would likely be close to 5v. But honestly, I do not know if some lights do the step down in the light rather than before.
@spicy110 yeah led tail light I have stripped the most of bike tank ect to follow the route of wires all the way to the rear switch and my foot nothing stands out gave it all a clean down and electrical cleaner on connections still no joy. Mot fail it is then lol get them to find the cause of it.
I have got a keeway RKV and just lately it had had issues with idling cold start and operating temperature and lack of power on hill climbs I have checked the battery already what other problems could things would you recommend to check over?
Corrosion on the terminals is due to hydrogen gas being released from the acid in the battery. It mixes with other things in the atmosphere and produces the corrosion you see on the terminals. Generally, if the corrosion is occurring on the negative terminal, your system is probably undercharging.
Ok cool. This bike is know for a low charging voltage but can be rectified with a direct connection. Known as the "free power mod" if anyone reads this and wants to know more.
Itsy bitsy spider went up the toilet's side Down came the piss And watch the spider slide Up came the spider and flicked me the bird. And the itsy bitsy spider DIED DIED DIED!!!!! Poetry is what it is😂😂😂

Great Faulty towers bit you left out. ‘That’s it! I’ve had it!!!’

Good DIY advice video! My Dad used to crazy glue a piece of copper or penny to each side of the terminals to help with corrosion issues.

Yep, Occam's Razor. You beat me to it... :)
Have you tried turning it off and back on?
Doh!

I had a DR125S that had a dodgy CDI box that needed a tap now and again to get it to run,it was a strange fault

use vaseline on battery terminals , it stops the oxidation

Love the faulty towers opening. Then some Derek beef!
Nice Basil Faulty ref at the start! :D Like for the Robin achievement unlocked! :D
Electrical gremlins are a PITA, hope you got it sorted.
Spicy you're chain looks really tight when you was sat on bike? That might explain the ticking sound the other day coming from the chain 👍
Naa it's in spec.
I think once its drys up at my end going to strip mine down and have a look at the Battery since I having some thing like this on and off for about 3 months only happens on the odd day
Like for the Robin. Dislike for the cruel treatment of spider! 😢

Any electrical fault - start at the power sauce...
Why does the negative get corroded? Same principal as electro plating?
When diagnosing electrical issues, use CONTACT CLEANER.
A dirty air filter indicates dirt can also be in other areas of the DR ZED.

Lovely Majestic Slug gloves
Great excuse to take the DRZ out again and give it some BEEF,
to try and replicate the problem.
@ 1:12 I was pissing my piss with laughter 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣spicy that's what I do to my car when it doesn't work.
1:15 you spanked the bike 😂😂
Ha ha looked like john cleese

Fuel mix could be off.
@@spicy110 what would I have to do to stop it

wtf , your bike is the same year model as mine and same issue, what are the odds , lol , did you solved it ?
Yes in a future video on my channel
Electrical issues are the worst😭😭😂
I had the same problem on my drz it was the kill switch the Contacts was
Corroded
Inside the switch or the plug?
spicy110 inside the switch
damn , better check mine , the thing is i never use the kill switch
WD-40 is fine on electrical connections, Spicy. It has hygrophobic qualities, so if nothing else you've got that going for you.
bikes and electrical problems....my life ha
Love the film take off whacking bike with said bush and reving bike with chin up love it to films legend
.

Cut that grass
No rake in case of mexican? bad form sir :D
Do a face reveal video sometime
No way! 😂
