Parents should be charged for anyone under 12. Your kid is depressed, unhinged, and angry and you continue to buy him an arsenal of knifes, swords, and BB guns. No 11 year old has any money, all these weapons are enabled by the parents. I mean come the F on!?. Who the F buys their kid 15+ medieval broad swords!, whats a kid at 11 need with all those swords?!.
Under 16; 18 if they don't have a job and they're getting their money from you. After 18, they're on their own unless they're still in hs and living with you. If you say under 12, these "parents" will consider their jobs done at 13 smh
Parents have lost touch with their kids, dumping them on their phones while they turn to theirs. It's out of control. I left public education because I was fed up with both the kids and parents-sometimes the parents are just as bad, if not worse. I experienced a full lockdown where SWAT went room to room with guns drawn, searching for those not involved. That's no joke in a school where you teach. So, Chitwood, thank you for finally stepping up. It's about time someone held people accountable. Another thing: cell phone providers offer parents the option to set up parental controls on their kids' phones, but the real issue is there's no accountability. There’s no discipline at home, so kids think they can do whatever they want-and worse, they leave a trail that leads right back to them. Parents need to step up and do their jobs. When I got a phone, it was for emergencies. Now, every kid has one, and it's ruining them, turning them into reckless rugrats roaming around without any consequences.
There used to be a time where parents and teachers worked hand in hand in making sure the kids turns out successful. Used to be if you got it bad at school “just wait until you get home.” Tough love and making sure your kids are on the straight and narrow.

I'm from Colorado. I've seen a little chaos from uncontrollable children and from teenagers. I absolutely agree with the sheriff with his words. It has to be done now by the parents.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Parents are supposed to guide and teach their kids. Not to be their friend. This is what happens when you don't have the spine to actually discipline your kid.
I know. The best we have is Soyboy Mena. Someone like Chitwood would be great in Orange; he is liked by both conservative and even some progressive organizations.
There has always been kids and parents that have not been held accountable and the world has supported them in this. We’ll see if they are fair in doing this because so often they do not treat everyone the same.
It is not just parents. It is society that does NOT allow any type of consequences for children. This attitude of coddling children and "gentle parenting" has got to stop. Why do you think kids keep doing this? Because there are NEVER any consequences.
*Removing privelages* like TV, video games, going somewhere, etc actually gives them the message *"might thinks right".* Is that the kind of example you want to set for your kids and their kids and their kids' kids?
I agree completely. Consequences are absent at home, so it takes law enforcement to get involved. I see nothing negative about this. The alternative is continuing letting kids get away with actual murder.
ABOUT TIME. Thank you sheriff. We need this to make national news. This ish is getting out of hand. HOLD THESE KIDS AND PARENTS ACCOUNTABLE. 1000% AGREED
That’s true bro…I had great parents but I was still a jerk, not like this kid, but still a problem child until I went in the Navy after graduation…definitely made me a better person 🙂
People are blaming parents now, but they made it illegal for us to discipline our kids. Remember they called it child abuse. Remember they said children have rights to make their own decisions.
This is America's Sheriff. This is the man all community law enforcement should follow. I hope he runs for congress. I'll move to his state and district just to vote and support him . Well done
I also blame the government for this problem too. Why? Because the government gave these kids power to call CPS against the good parents that disciplined their children. They labeled everything as abuse. And this gentle parent crap. Gentle parenting don't work for every kid.
This is absolutely false. I’m a former Texas police officer of two decades and now prosecutor for our DA’s office and the laws of parental child discipline have not been revoked. Parents are still more than legally able to slap their kids as much as physically needed as long as it is still within the scope of discipline. Abuse is when abrupt physical punishment comes due to no wrong committed by the child, or being his so hard significant bruising occurs where hospital admittance is needed. Just had a woman secretly record her husband slapping their son so hard and so many times he pissed his pants. He told the father to go “fck himself” and was slapped 37 times with a belt by the father. Nothing within the scope of this is child abuse nor is it anywhere close to meeting the elements of any child laws we have here or even assault. After CPS refused to do anything about it (they can’t because this is not abuse) she tried to come directly to my office as a prosecutor as if I’m going to do something. I finally was just tired of hearing her ranting about the situation and told her to leave or else I would have her arrested for trespassing. Parents these days are actually dumb enough to think that CPS will do anything the kids want. And when these parents who don’t do their jobs have their kids get older they come visit me and I send them straight to prison.
Yea I agree with yelling as it can scare the kid straight but just not on sp%nking as it feels innaproppriate to do on a child and on anybody, I dont get why parents get free pass to Literally Sp%nk their kids even tho IT IS LITERALLY INNAPROPRIATE, also I agree with sheriff chitwood that school shooting threats are getting outta hand in USA, im not from USA and if i will have kids and they misbehave my handcuffs are going to be put on them and idc if my kids ever call CPS, Kids out there need discipline, And If I get arrested for trying to discipline my kids in a different way I'll prob make a speech on why handcuffing is a good punishment on a kid same with yelling
I have a Junior in DCPS and I worry every single day bc of these stupid kids and parents. Thank you for doing an incredible job and most importantly THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
Now this is what a real sheriff looks like! Kids these days are lacking manners and discipline, causing trouble everywhere, and parents? They could care less.
This is what happens when a generation of kids are exposed to the internet. More often than not, they meet edgy teenagers or adults online who actually think these events are funny, and spread their sense of humor to the little ones. For my generation, Gen Z, it was 9/11 jokes and LiveLeak videos. I can only imagine what or who is influencing Gen Alpha to do this. Parents, stop letting random people from the internet raise your kids. Do it yourself. It's better for everyone that way, unless you lack any redeeming qualities that make a good parent. At that point, the kids are better off with someone else.
It makes me lose faith in humanity watching other Gen Z's have kids and stick them on an iPad. As if we don't know better than any generation before us how damaging the internet can be to a person's developing psyche. I had eating disorders through middle school not because of tv or magazines but because of what I exposed myself to online. If I were any younger I probably would have blamed my gender for all my problems instead of my weight and tried to "fix" that instead. The same problems are still around a decade later but under a different name. It's sickening that parents in the name of convenience will expose innocent children to content designed explicitly for adults or worse to lure and warp children (chat rooms have been around as long as Millenials have and are still kicking now under the name Discord.) Some time spent on a phone in a busy supermarket or long car ride is fine. Later in grade school, a home computer or tablet after school and homework are done is fine. Limited time on a shared device. Not 8 hours a day on tiktok looking at God knows what.
@@gingeralice3858Gen Zers aren’t exactly having kids yet, though I doubt most of them are giving their hypothetical kids iPads. You must be thinking of millennials instead, who are surprisingly ignorant to the dangers of the Internet and their kids having unrestricted access to electronics.

My daughter goes to one of the middle schools the boy threatened. Our county (Volusia County) doesn’t PLAY AROUND with this stuff! They were on top of it before WE even knew about the threat! Her school goes to great lengths to keep people who aren’t students from getting past the gate (the students each wear a school issued ID on a lanyard around their neck that has their name and picture on it) or else they don’t get in without specific permission or a parent can bring the ID up to the school. Either way, they make sure the student knows it’s unacceptable to leave it behind. I hate that this has become so common, these threats. But I am at least glad that our county takes them incredibly serious.
At least someone is taking it serious. It obvious many parents haven’t and look at what has happened. Keeping the kids safe and teachers is the most important issue.
Parents can and should put apps on their kid's phones where information about every text, email and call made is sent to the parent's email. If a parent provides a cell phone to their child, they should be help responsible for what that child is doing with that phone. This could protect children from predators
I agree to some degree. If you raised your child right, and you know them then I don’t think they should be monitored 24/7, and you should be able to trust them. Kids deserve their own privacy until they lose it.
They just need to create child phones. A line to 911, and 5 contacts. They don't need the internet or apps. These young brats have instagrams posting this crap.

We love your speech, Sheriff.
So frustrating this is crazy and absolutely shouldn't be happening. Love how he is looking at this hallelujah. Im glad he stood up like this!
Make this a nationwide policy. Thank you sheriff.

I also blame the government for this problem too. Why? Because the government gave these kids power to call CPS against the good parents that disciplined their children. They labeled everything as abuse. And this gentle parent crap. Gentle parenting don't work for every kid.
Yess, totally agree.
Not illegal in America, also can you explain why this isn't an issue is Scandinavia? Cause it actually is illegal there
Yea I agree with yelling as it can scare the kid straight but just not on sp%nking as it feels innaproppriate to do on a child and on anybody, I dont get why parents get free pass to Literally Sp%nk their kids even tho IT IS LITERALLY INNAPROPRIATE, also I agree with sheriff chitwood that school shooting threats are getting outta hand in USA, im not from USA and if i will have kids and they misbehave my handcuffs are going to be put on them and idc if my kids ever call CPS, Kids out there need discipline, And If I get arrested for trying to discipline my kids in a different way I'll prob make a speech on why handcuffing is a good punishment on a kid same with yelling

Good for you, sheriff. Great job.
