Except he not right. I get why all of you feel the way you do. Your responding based on your emotions the same as the sheriff. However there laws in this country and he can not exceed his authority which he is doing.
18 U.S. Code § 5038 prohibits the public release of a juvenile's name or picture in connection with a juvenile delinquency proceeding unless the juvenile is prosecuted as an adult.
The juvenile justice system was established to divert youthful offenders from criminal court punishments and to protect their identities so they can be rehabilitated
The sheriff has the right to investigate all threats and when he has sufficient evidence he can make an arrest. However its not up to him how some one will be charged and the extent of those charges. In this case because it's a minor he does not have the authority to decided whether the child should be charged as an adult or not. By parading the child around before the DA can decided he violating his authority and violating the rights of the minor. What if the child is innocent or the DA decides not to charge the child as an adult and that the minor can be rehabilitated. By parading the child around he destroyed any chance of that child ever going through life with out that hanging over his or her head. He exceed his authority.
You say the Parents should be held accountable. This is very dangerous path. Just because a child commits a crime or makes threats does not mean the parents have a clue what is going on. The mother of one of the columbine shooters had no idea what her child was going through or planning she was completely blindsided by his actions. There was nothing she could have done to prevent it. There is difference between a parent who raising a child and is trying to teach them the best they can and unaware of what is going on in their kids like (especially a teenage.). How many parents can say they know ever single thing going on in their teenager life. How many parents see their kids take their own life and were complete blindside by it and found that their child was being bullied and harassed and they were completely unaware of it. It's one thing when you have parents who are reckless and go out and by their child a fire arm knowing they have behavior problems and make the fire arm easy to access. Vs a parent who trying to raise their child the right way and are completely oblivious to what is going on in their child's life. Do you think parents should be held accountable for something they have no idea is going.
I'm sorry but the sheriff is dead wrong on this on so many levels and it's going to back fire on him. Just wait and see. because when parents get attorney and sue the city for violating their child's rights and the city looses it will cause that sheriff his badge.

Just like the Israeli-Palestian conflict, (please DON'T get me started on that ...) ,if local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies weren't so crooked and/or corrupt, they would hardly be any resentment towards them, wouldn't there.
At least SOMEBODY gives worth a damn.
      Cops are not babysitters!
Yes, they're public servants and they work for us.
And that we do not work for them, but that's not the point.
What is the point,is that their sherrff from wherever sheriff's department he's from,is sick and tired of that nonsense.
He's not the only one, however.
He, himself, won't have to fight that entire war against situations like that on his own.

That is not a good idea for schools. The equipment they use is also extremely finicky, and either brakes very easily, or does not work half the time for its intended use, giving false positives. Parents have lost touch with their kids, dumping them on their phones while they turn to theirs. It's out of control. I left public education because I was fed up with both the kids and parents-sometimes the parents are just as bad, if not worse. I experienced a full lockdown where SWAT went room to room with guns drawn, searching for those not involved. That's no joke in a school where you teach. So, Chitwood, thank you for finally stepping up. It's about time someone held people accountable.
Another thing: cell phone providers offer parents the option to set up parental controls on their kids' phones, but the real issue is there's no accountability. There’s no discipline at home, so kids think they can do whatever they want-and worse, they leave a trail that leads right back to them. Parents need to step up and do their jobs. When I got a phone, it was for emergencies. Now, every kid has one, and it's ruining them, turning them into reckless rugrats roaming around without any consequences.

This is absolutely false. I’m a former Texas police officer of two decades and now prosecutor for our DA’s office and the laws of parental child discipline have not been revoked. Parents are still more than legally able to slap their kids as much as physically needed as long as it is still within the scope of discipline. Abuse is when abrupt physical punishment comes due to no wrong committed by the child, or being his so hard significant bruising occurs where hospital admittance is needed. Just had a woman secretly record her husband slapping their son so hard and so many times he pissed his pants. He told the father to go “fck himself” and was slapped 37 times with a belt by the father. Nothing within the scope of this is child abuse nor is it anywhere close to meeting the elements of any child laws we have here or even assault. After CPS refused to do anything about it (they can’t because this is not abuse) she tried to come directly to my office as a prosecutor as if I’m going to do something. I finally was just tired of hearing her ranting about the situation and told her to leave or else I would have her arrested for trespassing. Parents these days are actually dumb enough to think that CPS will do anything the kids want. And when these parents who don’t do their jobs have their kids get older they come visit me and I send them straight to prison.

This is what happens when a generation of kids are exposed to the internet. More often than not, they meet edgy teenagers or adults online who actually think these events are funny, and spread their sense of humor to the little ones.
For my generation, Gen Z, it was 9/11 jokes and LiveLeak videos. I can only imagine what or who is influencing Gen Alpha to do this.
Parents, stop letting random people from the internet raise your kids. Do it yourself. It's better for everyone that way, unless you lack any redeeming qualities that make a good parent. At that point, the kids are better off with someone else.

    • @gingeralice3858
      @gingeralice3858 Месяц назад

It makes me lose faith in humanity watching other Gen Z's have kids and stick them on an iPad. As if we don't know better than any generation before us how damaging the internet can be to a person's developing psyche. I had eating disorders through middle school not because of tv or magazines but because of what I exposed myself to online. If I were any younger I probably would have blamed my gender for all my problems instead of my weight and tried to "fix" that instead. The same problems are still around a decade later but under a different name. It's sickening that parents in the name of convenience will expose innocent children to content designed explicitly for adults or worse to lure and warp children (chat rooms have been around as long as Millenials have and are still kicking now under the name Discord.) Some time spent on a phone in a busy supermarket or long car ride is fine. Later in grade school, a home computer or tablet after school and homework are done is fine. Limited time on a shared device. Not 8 hours a day on tiktok looking at God knows what.

My daughter goes to one of the middle schools the boy threatened.
Our county (Volusia County) doesn’t PLAY AROUND with this stuff! They were on top of it before WE even knew about the threat!
Her school goes to great lengths to keep people who aren’t students from getting past the gate (the students each wear a school issued ID on a lanyard around their neck that has their name and picture on it) or else they don’t get in without specific permission or a parent can bring the ID up to the school. Either way, they make sure the student knows it’s unacceptable to leave it behind.
I hate that this has become so common, these threats. But I am at least glad that our county takes them incredibly serious.

Parents can and should put apps on their kid's phones where information about every text, email and call made is sent to the parent's email.
If a parent provides a cell phone to their child, they should be help responsible for what that child is doing with that phone. This could protect children from predators

I agree to some degree. If you raised your child right, and you know them then I don’t think they should be monitored 24/7, and you should be able to trust them. Kids deserve their own privacy until they lose it.
