  • I recently picked up a vintage Roland XV-3080 synth module. I used to own one back in the early days of my production career and now that I'm essentially back where I begin with hardware, I thought it would be nice to get another....so I did! and it has a tremendous Range Of Sounds, Versatility and Quality too.

    One thing i detest about all these software driven sounds and DAW on PC /MAC are all these freaking updates either from the OS or the apps. When your system asks of an update all of a sudden, the apps become obsolete or the developers have no more updates and the hardware that goes with the PC/MAC has become useless... like audio interfaces @ $1000 ...dead.
    Audio hardware and sound modules and keyboards and rack effects and dynamics modules that have never needed these stupid updates and subscriptions are the real winners.
    I could see this day coming and im glad i invested in hardware when it was cheap and people were dumping it for software.
    Hardware all the way baby!!

      Yeah same here. Hardware doesn't require updates every 2-3 weeks and is much more durable and will last you a lifetime if you so choose. Agreed. Thanks for watching.

    You are 1000% CORRECT!!! I'm SOOOO SICK about companies charging monthly fees to access these sounds with stupid subscriptions!

      Yeah I saw where it was going and Im glad I killed that lion before it got a chance to bite me! Never liked subscriptions for sounds that I could just buy a module to access and put my own reverb and dynamics on them inside my DAW! ..

    I own a 2080 and absolutely love it! The expansion cards for these units are incredible, especially Vintage Synth, Techno, and House.
    I'm a huge fan of both plugins and hardware synths (love the V Collection, Diva, Serum, etc)...but I find the richness and polyphony from the 2080 to be almost unbeatable. Of all the hardware synths I own, I would be hard pressed to say it isn't one of the most useful, it is definitely up there with the Hydrasynth, Digitone and Analog Four despite being 25+ years old!

    Great vid. I just purchased a used Xavier 3080 to go with my JV 1000 because of checking out thoughts from producers like yourself. I have the MKS 20 module for the piano sounds but I still wasn’t happy. After hearing the 3080 and all the talk I am convinced the 3080 has all the piano/E Pianos I can tweak to my liking. I’m old school and like the 80’s style Rhodes. Thanks for the extra knowledge.

      It's just something about the hardware synth richness that has had me captivated since my early years of music production and I haven't really moved completely away ever. Like most the software world took over and there are great sounds there as well but hardware production free's me from the computer and gets the focus back on the music and not the technical. Thanks for watching!

    Roland pretty much ruled the 90s esp the JV series on nearly ever R&B record of that era esp Rodney Jerkins being a heavy user hence the Harp sound on Brandy & Monica - The Boy is Mine. I have the Roland Integra-7 in my rack that includes all the sounds of the JV-1080, JV-2080, XV-5080, plus modern Jupiter sounds. Its got some sounds from the JD990 as well. I'm pretty much hybrid these days as I use both soft synths and hardware rack mount synths. I own most of all all the sounds of the 90s and 00s in my rack from Motif ES, Fantom XR, E-MU Proteus 2000, Mo' Phatt.. I even got the Korg Triton software too. Its something about hardware that software can't replicate esp analog warmth.

    Subscriptions (and being forced to connect to the internet period)! That is one of the reasons why I want to get some rackmounted stuff. Also, being a 90s baby, there's just something so satisfying about fiddling with settings and parameters on hardware to create something. All you have to next time is literally just turn on the machine and recall that setting you saved. Sometimes, not having to turn on your laptop/desktop to play music is all you want for that day.

    • @SoundstarMusic
      @SoundstarMusic  Год назад

      It depends. Sometimes I just want to use the 2000XL on certain types of songs. Other times it's the 4K so it just depends. The both sonically sound different in my opinion so it just depends on the song I'm doing. I get great results from both machines though! Thanks for watching!

I couldn’t afford one bck then but now own the software n they give u all the expansions with it.. bck then those expansions were $3-400 a piece..bck on the Triton virtual but rockn wit a Force n MP one n Yamaha Mx.. and very much so the ES rack ain’t going nowhere.. bck on my hardware because I hate subscriptions ..

    Did you try Keyscape and Trillian? Along with Omnisphere, Eric Persing did the sound design (Spectrasonics). He as the chief sound designer of Roland from 1984-2004. The problem with older hardware, it is going to fail sooner or later. Some things can be repaired and some things cannot.

    • @SoundstarMusic
      @SoundstarMusic  Месяц назад

      well ALL things will fail eventually including technology right? Older synths units like this one are cheap enough to buy again even if that were the case. Buying a new computer however just to have the latest version of the software is a bit more expensive in my opinion.

    Same here. Like 80s/90s most. Spent years in my DAW just to learn how to produce. Forgot about everything. Concentrated on drums and percussion. But I miss the excitement. So I already bought a JV-90, a XV-3080, a RS7000 and a RD-8. A strat too. Planning a bass and a RD-9. But first I have to clean my place, it looks like a dump. Can't produce if they kick me out of the place. Got 10 hours left hehe
