I am LOVING all y'all ideas on what else to do in the space! You are totally inspiring me. ❤ thank you for all the feed back
Julie you inspire me girl! I love the bench idea. The ideas are endless. Always remember you can swap stuff out. If you get tired of the round table you could put a rectangle table. Again thank you. Beautiful inside & out! I started this journey w you and you’ve came so far! The ladies on fb are amazing and thriving it’s awesome to watch. ❤️God bless you sis.
Although I know that whatever you do, it's going to look astounding 😍 I had to throw my two cents in too 😜❣
I say get the chairs at ikea. The ones you love. You mix new with all your diy’s. Love all your videos. You are awesome.
I'd like to add one last comment. For me, personally, I've unsubscribed the to a lot of DIY channels lately, but continue to love every video you put out for one simple reason - you're humble, honest and you keep it real. There are many families struggling to feed their family right now, and have no idea how Christmas will be bought. When you say "it's not in the budget right now", many of us can relate. Others are doing projects with a 6K budget and that's not even realistic to a lot of people. Keep being real, keep being humble, keep being the amazing YOU!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
If you build a bench it makes no sense just buy one of the chairs you like and use a temporary side table until you get the new chair. If you use either chair option you have on hand paint them to match the table and it will hide them better. Also try a thrift shop for some options since all you need is 2 chairs it will be easier to find than a set of 4 or 6. You can paint them and recover them if they have fabric on them.
Omg when you said “it’s just me making my dreams come true” I got all chocked up and almost cried 😭 your doing great Julie and I’m always in awe of how you get things done 🤗👏
thank you!
OMG You did a great job. It's gonna look amazing when your done. That's what i love about you, you don't think twice, you just do it. I have so many makeovers i have to do . It takes me so long to do them I put it off. Just to let you know, You talk so well on camera. Can't wait unti your next video.
Ditto!! Great job, Julie! And I love seeing the process more than a room already put together. I agree about the built in benches that you can remove. I think that is a fabulous idea! Can't wait to see what you do with the seating and the curtains!😊👏👌❤
You are absolutely amazing and your house is gorgeous.
Girl, you are a wonder. No need to justify yourself. Your doing great! 4 children, a house to put together and on a budget, what a wonderful time.
If you had a crew, I can honestly say, I would not watch because it is not real.
Tired of those celeb shows.
Keep going, you inspire so many of us.
I think the cafe curtains & benches would be perfect! I like watching you re-do the things around you and make them into what you want them to be. So yes, please give us the videos even if the projects aren't finished in one video. Perfectly understandable it takes much longer than you can do in one video. You explain everything you do and it gives us the courage to do these things ourselves because you show us how to accomplish it. I admire you so much. Keep up the good work. Your awesome!
Yay! Thank you!
I’m so happy to see this video! I love seeing you doing the work and hearing your reasoning behind it. Please KEEP THEM COMING!!!!
I vote for cafe curtains and L shaped removable bench. You are doing great and you do inspire me at 71 to keep moving.
The breakfast nook turned out beautiful !!! Love the idea of working on projects in small bits! Your house is coming together, bit by bit and soon it will be completed.
I am a grandmother and Julie you are just the sweetest most adorable person on YT and I could just adopt you as my granddaughter (or daughter for that fact lol)! I love all your ideas, creativity and the fact that you are so genuine and unpretentious. I love that wall oh my goodness! Can't wait to see what else you do to your lovely home.
that's sweet. thank you
Love the idea of the L-shaped benches with throw pillows. That area is calling for a "built-in" look.
yes, i agree
Like the idea of benches waiting for the right chairs.
I vote for the Cafe curtains and the L shaped removable benches ....You are doing great and inspire me at 71 to keep on keeping on. Thanks!
I love how real you are. Watching some videos, and everything being perfect, and money no object, just makes many feel total inept. You do amazing work, and have great ideas and styles. I'd love to see more videos like this. Well, actually, I love watching all of your videos, no matter what they are abt. You make me feel like a proud mom, and you're not even my daughter. Keep up the great work. ❤️
Thank you so much!
I like the idea of a bench with a neutral fabric then jazzing it up with pillows
The benches will be the easiest solution for now. I can't wait to see the outcome!
Cafe curtains with a stripe or 2 might work. Whatever projects you do are always inspiring.
I think the cafe curtains. I love the L-shaped benches.
So glad RUclips recommended you. I've learnt so much from you in just watching 2 videos, then I've learnt anywhere else in a year. So so happy I've subed to learn more!!!
oh wow, thank you for that sweet comment. I'm glad you are enjoying my videos.
@@JuliesDesignsandSigns oh yeah, for sure! I watched you faux ficus tree one and it blew my mind because I see those ugly ones in the op shops all the time and think " what person in their right mind would buy those?" Lol Now I'm heading out to find some. Thank you so much for sharing!!
PS, the real time reno idea, is a great idea. Allows us viewers the reality of what goes into any reno's
Oh my Gosh Julie, this is why I love your content, so unique. I think the benches and cafe curtains sound adorable and cozy. It’s coming together Julie, I see it❣️ Thank you Hubby, the pendant light is cute! Those IKEA chairs are nice, they would look adorable in that spot.🌼
As I was looking at the room I was thinking benches benches would be adorable maybe the pillows matching the cafe curtains would be absolutely darling
I actually like the soft blue grey color of the breakfast mom area as is ❤️
Absolutely love everything you do Julie. Yesssss keep showing us your projects as they happen!
We shiplapped our bathroom. I wanted my "cracks" to show, so I painted the wall first a charcoal gray. Then I painted all my boards outside--2 coats of Behr Jumprope--the trim color all around my house--a very light warm cream. We used spacers my husband made. And then glued and nailed the boards. I touched up the nail holes when we were finished.
I definitely think you need to use a swag to drape your lamp to hang over the table.
Looks great.
Yes build the bench for now. Cute idea. Cafe curtains for sure
I love what you are doing to make your house reflect your style! I think the bench seating is a great idea; the windows are at the right height for it. You could stamp a greenery print on drop cloth cushions or pillows and make café curtains out of ticking stripe cloth.
You did a great job and are off to a wonderful start with the breakfast nook. Don't do built-ins. They are not comfortable and they just overwhelm the space. If you go with just chairs, you can do the dropcloth curtains to match dining and living rooms and make it a cohesive look rather than throwing in a set of cafe curtains.
Straight curtains add a sophisticated yet warm feeing to an area. Maybe off white with light colored flowers throughout them so you can see out. A little different moments pause in your home to sit. So cute.
Cafe curtains would look very pretty and the bench would look wonderful and maybe to some kind of printed chairs out of the in the front
The bench idea sounds perfect!
I am glad you decided to show us the room projects as you work on them. Benches sound like the best solution for now, I think. The wall finish really gave me an answer to my bathroom walls and I do love shiplap! Love the pendant.
I absolutely love the shiplap wall. I enjoy seeing you do the work instead of touring a finished room. It’s a great way to learn and hear all your tips and tricks. I think I would just do a valance on the windows or something light and airy. In a breakfast nook it’s nice to have all the natural light coming in and be able to watch the birds and squirrels! Thanks Julie 🍳🧇☕️
I would like more videos like this because just by watching you, Julie, you inspire me and make me think I could tackle a project like this, especially because you walk us through step by step! thank you for being real!!!
I'm so glad you liked it!
I love the bench idea, especially with a bunch of throw pillows for a pop of color... That would just complete the area and make it look more fabulous than it already does... Why are you not decorating other people's home's for more income or just because it's your passion/calling....?? You are waaaay better than some if the decorators I've known throughout the year's.... Your home is always beautifully decorated, even though it's not exactly my style (I like a little more black and a little more color) I can still appreciate the simplicity and beauty of it...
I like the benches and the cafe curtain idea.
I love this type of video because so many of us (me me me) don't have a crew and don't have an endless budget. I love the idea of going through the whole process with you rather than a big reveal. God bless you, girl!
Love everything you do! I really enjoy watching you transform your new house into a home for your family. You mentioned adding curtains but I think bamboo shades would look good. They would tie in with the wicker pendant light nicely.
i thought about that too but they are so expensive and i just love how curtains cozy up a space.
I love watching you transform a room. You have excellent taste and style so don't question yourself, you are always spot on. You other home is so lovely, thanks to all you did. You are what makes a house a home. This house will be the same. I love how you take thrifted furniture and items and make them your own. I can't wait to see more. Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you! Will do!
You are the bomb. There isn't always instant gratification. But look at what you have done!!
That’s shiplap makes the room. So much more beautiful of a room than before ❤️
Love the bench idea!! With your dark wood dining table I think your light pendant might benefit another coat or two to darken it!! Everything looks great as usual!!!
i agree. i'll probably paint it some more. it's still a little light
It's beautiful Julie. And I can see your vision coming together bit by bit. You are demonstrating what it's like to reno and furnish a home in REAL life. That's what I love about you.
Cafe curtains for sure get my vote! I have shutters in the bottom half of my eating area windows so I can still see the trees & scenery. 🌲🌳🌲
You ARE a TOTAL inspiration. I have just moved to a new place...MASSIVE downsize...and now I'm trying to make the pieces that were from various rooms, work together now that they are in closer proximity to each other.
I'm taking a page out of your book, and unifying them by using white as my base. The hardest part was giving myself permission to paint antiques that have been in the family for generations...but since none of my kids are interested in 'inheriting' them...I am free to do what I want, since as far as family heirlooms go...apparently I am the end of the line...lol
I'm quite liking how nicely they are playing together now...and I'm finding myself a little bit addicted to white chalk-paint.
Thank-you so much for sharing your enthusiasm, your energy and your inspiration. ❤
have fun and make those pieces look the way you want them to look!
I like the cafe curtain idea. Like your idea with the bench setting with pillows until you find some cute cafe chairs. You make your own dreams come true. No worries that the rooms aren’t done. You do A LOT! Keep it up. Love whatever inspires you. I think a cute little jute plant hanger in the corner or a floating shelf with a hanging plant would look cute too. I’m sure whatever you do, it will be great. You are a class act!
Julie you are definitely inspiring!! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone work so hard and persistent on their home. But oh my gosh you have accomplished so much already and everything is just beautiful! I think you should hang cafe curtains in the breakfast nook. And I like your idea of building a bench along the two walls and if you need more chairs just pull from the dining room set. And yes! More videos like this. I love when you take us along bit by bit or however you want to do it. I just love all your videos!! Oh, BTW, love the shiplap and the white table.
thanks!
Cafe curtains for sure. I love shiplap, it looks great there. I love watching a project come to life.
I love the idea of the L shaped bench and the cafe curtains for that space. I also like the idea of the drop cloth curtains for the continuity. Please don't feel like you have to have a space 100% finished to show us. We, I, understand that everything can't be done at once and I'd rather see the process than have to wait. I just love your work and watching you make things happen. thanks for including us on the journey.
Thank you for keeping it real! Designing a home is not like designing a showroom! it should take time to curate all the things you love for that space! Well done can’t wait for the next one!
I LOVE what you are doing with this space! So cozy, not to mention affordable! I vote for cafe curtains, so you can see out onto the deck and get plenty of light as well. Why not build a rustic L shaped seating that can be relocated to a corner of your lovely deck when you find your perfect coffee-corner chairs? You can add an outdoor round table and dine alfresco in fair weather!
I love the L shaped bench idea but I would also put two square stools on the outside that can be tucked under that side. Maybe with some cute cushions on top that would match your throw pillows for the benches. ❤️
Maybe swag the nook light over the center of the table. You don't want any bumped heads! I admire the work you accomplish, and your ideas to make an attractive home.
I am so glad that you showed how easy it can be to do the shiplap! You inspire me! I can’t wait to see what the benches will look like!
well, not exactly easy but totally doable. i have done it a lot. gets easier with every project.
Hello,
Suggestion:
You could use 2 long rectangular ottomans as table benches, they can also double as additional storage and they are not permanent. They can also fold up when not in use and are a great space saver. Faux leather wipes clean easily. They come in many colors and styles.
I hope this is helpful. 😊
YES PLEASE! Lol. I love this video and would LOVE more like this. Being able to watch you figure out the bones of an area and build around it is awesome!! It really helps someone like me who has trouble just beginning a project! LOVE the space so far! Your home is STUNNING
I think cafe curtains would be sweet!
The breakfast nook is looking great. I love the idea of the L shaped bench & pulling in dining room chairs as needed. Cafe curtains would be cute in those windows. Half window shutters would also look nice, but that could be a bit pricey.
Roman Shades in breakfast room would look great!
Love everything you’ve done. “Just me making my dreams come true”… how empowering! You got it going on girl! I think cafe curtains would be adorable in the nook.
I see that area of your kitchen as more of a children’s area. So I would go with café curtains. You can even insert them inside the window. As soon as I saw that space my first thought was “Oh perfect area for benches.” So I would definitely go with benches! I think your children would enjoy that (and if you make the benches like boxes you can make your tops lift for storage. Which would be great for large kitchen Appliances.). Also great idea using thin underlayment for shiplap!
You inspire me to be brave and make changes in my home. I love that you are so down to earth and real. Keep making videos showing your projects finished or not finished. Either way, I will continue to watch the amazing things you do!
Julie, loved the breakfast room. Each detail was just perfect. I like the idea of cafe curtains and also the bench. I’d suggest two benches to form the “L”. I have a couple of rustic benches that we are always moving from place to place. When I give a party we pull them in front of the TV and the fireplace for extra seating. At the foot of a bed for luggage if we have company. Just really handy. I so appreciate all you are accomplishing for your family and your home on your own. I enjoy being along for the ride!
You're just Real,,,
And I love that about you,,,
The L benches sound amazing for your family..
Please don't ever change..
I watch everything you put out..
These videos are fun and inspiring,,,You just have the energy of a 5 year old..
God Bless.
Love the space. ❤🙏✝️👍
Yasss! Bench/ banquet seating around the back....so good! And cafe curtains would be perfection. The shiplap is so so good!!! I need to get up my courage and try to do this in my own home.
I love the idea of the L-shaped bench! The nook looks so much better now!
Looks great. Yes cafe curtains. It's going to be adorable. Yes more updated spaces. Tfs
This style video is more realistic. Things DO take time to accomplish. It also takes a minute to find the right things that will make you happy. TFS
I like the 1st chairs best!!!
😁😀😊🥰👍
I love that you are doing a very budget minded project. It's nice sometimes to do a small update for a space, knowing you want something bigger later. The shiplap frames out that little nook so nicely.
I vote for cafe curtains and love the idea of the non built in bench for the corner. It will be out of the walkway, and as you said, chairs can always be pulled up from the other room.
I vote for the bench with some cute pillows and a valance so u can still see outside. A long curtain would get in the way of the benches
I love seeing the bits and pieces all come together. This is a great format that goes well with your FB videos of small items. Its the best of both worlds! I agree, no chairs needed. The benches sound good. Cafe or shorter curtains too!
YES… keep the renovation videos coming ! Love your little space you just did ! NOPE…didn’t get me up and doing my projects….LOL!!!!! My WHOLE BIG HOUSE is full of the real shiplap and unpainted ☹️☹️☹️. I got sick with this crazy muscle disease and now I can’t paint it! LOVE that color you are using! Another reason for not getting it done..picking the right white! So the name is DUCK WHITE ? I think I had “Dover White “ picked out.
The light is PERFECT… that was the style I was thinking of when you said IKEA! I can’t believe how great the prices are at IKEA! We don’t even have an IKEA Store in our State .
Love the bench idea for the space. Add the throw pillows… and pull a single chair over when needed or when found! 👍👍
What a great transformation! Love it…love it !!
I don’t know how you do it all Julie… renovating or updating a BIG HOUSE… 4 kids…. You are a force to be reckoned with 💪💪💪💪
Hugs to you! ❤️❤️❤️🍁🍁🍁❤️❤️❤️
yes, white duck. that's ok if you didn't get up and start working after the video. LOL!! I'm glad you liked the space
I loved this. I really like hearing your thought process and how you are keeping costs down. So many home redos are way out of my budget but you make it real. So thank you.
We’d be happy to watch anything you put in your videos. 😘
You always teach me something and I'm grateful. I think that your idea to put beautiful wooden benches along the wall is great. Perhaps with drop cloth cushions with the appropriate stamps on them or some simple ticking stripes, which would of course tie into the rest of your decor. I remember a realtor once telling me that what she loved about what I'd done to a whole house redo that my husband and I had done, was that no matter where she looked, the decor drew her eye along to see beyond. Your work is beautiful!
i really like the idea of drop cloth cushions, you are right that would tie into the curtains in the other room. i try to design each room thinking of the rest of the house as well. i want it to flow from one room to the next
I LOVE IT its so warm and cozy and yea I think putting benches there will add the perfect touch
I love to see a step at a time… it’s reality! That’s usually how I end up doing it. ❤️❤️
You do amazing projects with just you! Don’t discount yourself, you are inspiring to us!
I have a very similar area in my house. I built two benches (not built-in and loaded them with pillows. Now it is my favorite area in my house! I like to watch the progress, so no need to “finish” for me. Love your videos!!
That is awesome! that's exactly what im thinking. i want the look but do not want to actually build them in
Café curtain would be charming. Bench for seating & then pull dining room chairs is smart.
Julie, Love your shiplap idea! Brilliant Girl! Nothing wrong with drop cloth on all the windows. It will help tie all 3 rooms together and make them more cohesive. You could hang one drop cloth on the left side of the left window and one drop cloth on the right side of the right window. Then loosely gather & pleat them and tie them back with some jute. Insert a tiny nail or curtain hook into the wall about 3/4 down the window and hang the jute tie on the hook. The drop cloth should cover the hook. I wouldn't want to hide that lovely view
A built in bench I believe will be the best choice. I love the shiplap! I loved it in the natural wood color too. Nice work!
Love the L shaped bench idea with added cushion. You could look for a few old church benches on MP then trim off the top portion while leaving just enough of an edge. Then add French cushions.
Love the shiplap I think the bench with pillows you suggested would look so good. Cafe curtains would probably work best…bc with the bench & pillows people will more than likely lean against the wall some so it might cause the curtains to be pulled down if that make sense 😂 love all your videos whatever you decide to create I’m watching 🙋🏼♀️
I’m sure others would agree!
I could watch you just read the paper. You are such a bright spot in my day when you post a new video. I’m on the other end of the spectrum. My sons out of the house, my house is pretty much how I like it. Cozy. But I miss the energy and fun of starting new. Thanks for giving me that thru your videos. Sorry this is so long. ☺️
The breakfast nook and table turned out beautifully. I love the hanging lamp that you chose. I think the cafe curtains would look amazing in that corner.
The before picture of that breakfast nook was bad, you remodel is great
An Edison light bulb would be pretty in the light. I love all of it! Long curtains hung close to the ceiling height would make it seem less echo-ey and cozy. Could hang one and swoop to one side. Rug? Great job! Love your videos! 💕
the way you distress furniture is the perfect way to do it. I wish everyone understands that
You are a joy to watch, Julie, keep doing what you are doing. I’m sure you empower many women to just do it!
Love your idea of the bench and pulling chairs from the dining room.
Love how you did the shiplap. I would do cafe curtains, 100%!
I think the bench idea is the way to go.
I like the idea of the bench. You can coordinate the cafe curtains with the pillows on the bench.
Looking great so far!
Love the walls! Great job! Benches for sure!!
Valances in these windows would be lovely! You work so hard for your family. Thank you for sharing your passion.
I say cafés curtains in that space! I also like the armless chairs better in that space as well. I love Love LOVE the shiplap! I’d like that in my kitchen. I actually want a picnic table and benches in my kitchen. And maybe 2 chairs on each end of the table. I cant wait to see your final reveal in all you do to your home! You are so inspiring!!
JULIE I would enjoy watching your HOME DIY’s. This was great!
I like the bench idea with pull up dining chairs
The benches would be great esp if it mainly for the kids for breakfast. No need really for extra chairs. I thrifted some linen cafe curtains, (actually a bit longer than half way but hey 🤷♀️) I love that they let the light show through plus light coming in above too. Anyway I vote yes to cafe curtains. Love watching you shiplap the walls! You do amazing work.
thanks!
Great tips on the faux shiplap.
I think if you did a light weight cafe curtain with cute little benches.....your space would be perfect! I love how you get things done!!! :)
