The way Chris describes anxiety making him feel like he’s having a heart attack sounds like classic signs of Panic Disorder. Panic attacks will hit you seemingly out of nowhere. Even when you don’t feel like you’re particularly anxious. Panic attacks feel like you’re having a heart attack. Your chest tightens, you find it hard to breath, your vision and hearing can get tunneled like you’re going to pass out. You literally feel like it is truly the end. It feels like it goes on forever. Once it passes you’re fine other than being freaked out by what just happened, but physically all your symptoms pass. So scary!

My panic attacks also came out of nowhere, i thought i was going to die because at first i did not know it was panic attack. It felt like leaving my body and when i came back to normal my body would shake. It happens multiple times a day. After medication it only happens 3 times a month, and not in the same way. Now i just get really dizzy out of nowhere, sometimes it makes me fall, and shake afterwards. I feel so bad for people who have experience panic attacks ❤

Chris speaking up about how it's different when dealing with both depression and anxiety meant so much to me. I also have both and i also have days sometimes weeks where just getting out of bed and go to work takes all the energy i have, which means i have 0 for actual self care let alone any exercise. I've been having such a hard time lately with it. All i want to do is sleep and most days that's all i do. He's right, so often i feel like such a shit person and just lazy for not doing anything but i physically cannot get out of bed. It's nice to know you're not alone and that others understand what it's like. Once again, thank you Chris for your take. You've become one of my favorites from the podcast ❤

I am the same way. I am diagnosed with ADHD, generalized anxiety, major depression, as well as PTSD. I’m collecting all the mental illnesses LMAO… on a serious note, I am the same way, the only energy I have really is to sleep. I stay in bed as long as I can, I have no energy for exercise, eating, anything. I struggle doing one assignment for college, I struggle only working 2 days a week. I’m very grateful they talk about these issues in their podcast and ALSO even though I am a woman, I love how they are men talking about these issues. I've watched this episode so many times and every time it gets to the part where they are talking about anxiety and Chris mentions his anxiety, I can't help but feel a weird sense of relief. I feel so seen. I've had anxiety for as long as I can remember, but kind of like Chris, my parents both had heart attacks ( though, they were both fatal ) ... so, naturally, when I have an anxiety attack, it manifests in a way that feels like I'm having a heart attack. And I think the fear that I AM actually having a heart attack only makes it worse, because I'm so scared of dying or being hospitalized because I have a nine year old now.
It's such a scary thing, but it happens a LOT as of the last few years -- but on our last vacation, while I was driving, I started to have an anxiety attack and ended up pulling over and I swear to you, I did the thing that Shane talked about to help bring myself out of it, and it really did help so much. So, thank you guys so much for talking about such relatable and serious topics ( as well as the goofy stuff ). Y'all really do make my life so much better. Love you all.

you need to talk about "the stairs in the woods" ive been so intrigued by it latey. i just recently found out about it from CorpseHusband (who i also just recently heard of, somehow).
theyre like, always in forests or the deep woods. they just look like someone copied and pasted a staircase from someones house into the middle of the woods. theyre always about 10-30 miles into the forests they can be wood, stone, cement, metal, whatever. the scariest part is that they usually look pristine, perfectly clean and no weathering or marks or dirtiness at all like they were just placed there. they have said animals stay away from the area and its as if nature itself avoids it.
its been said that they are found mostly around the times people go missing, and that you should never walk up them or touch them, because either the ones who did die instantly in strange ways or get severly injured, or they instantly lose track of the missing people, and that usually the next day they either seem to have moved overnight or just completely dissapear.
it really intruiges me, and im sure others still havent heard about it and i think a lot of people want to learn about it or see if you can find more stories about it.

The DMT experience part was very interesting to me because, one night I astral projected (not under the influence of drugs, I can just do it) and when I floated into a room, a voice spoke to me and said to focus on the light prisms, and when I looked closely, everything was made up of these super beautiful triangular shapes that I could only describe as being sparkly, because the English language can’t encapsulate the description in full. They were the most beautiful things I had ever seen! So when Jerid mentioned the shapes, it made me so excited to hear that someone else experienced them!

When Shane said what is the purpose really hit me. I’m a EMT and seeing people die and being there with them really haunts you. My father unalived himself 3 years ago. I know I need therapy because even now I want to follow his footsteps. But one thing that has kept me present and not drown in depression was a psych nurse in a ER told a patient we brought in something that’s helped me and she’ll never know it. She said that when it get dark and you’re thinking doing something harmful, go and help someone. Family or friends or even just checking in on a neighbor. Because helping someone fills a purpose for you and takes you out of your own head. Since then I go to the nursing home down the street when I get off work and play checkers with the residents. They woop my ass at it. I know it’s not a permanent fix but it does fill a purpose. Purpose gives us hope.

I, too, am an EMT - And I totally sympathize with what you're saying. I always say "I know it sounds cliche... But things do eventually get better. But we have to be around to SEE it get better." 🖤 I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but I'm so happy to hear you visit the elderly and play checkers with them! I'm sure you are helping them just as much, if not more, as they're helping you!

People don't understand that I've been pushing very hard and eventually I can't do it and I have to take a break to let it "reset" in a way. I'm so glad they are taking about this. I can’t express how much it is actually helpful when you guys talk about anxiety and depression. My entire family has a neurotypical point of view and suffering from clinical depression myself, they just don’t understand. I don’t WANT to feel like my life is pointless, but that’s how my brain is telling me to feel. It’s really hard trying to express to them that I’m not just stuck in bed due to laziness. I physically can’t muster up the energy or the care to do it. And I’m a mom and I definitely don’t want to feel like I don’t have anything to care about when I have these three beautiful children who need me, but that’s just how my brain works. Then the anxiety kicks in like telling me I shouldn’t be feeling that that, and like you said you get stuck in that vicious circle.

I can fully agree with Chris that some days you just cannot get out of bed. I’ve quit jobs because I can’t leave my room/bed because the depression makes me feel empty and worthless and the anxiety of that and getting up and doing something makes me think I’ll do something to fuck something up. I feel like accidentally he was a little shut down and wasn't able to complete his thoughts on it. Watching Ryland over the years I feel like I relate to his type of anxiety on a small level. I want to know how he deals with getting frustrated with projects and I want to know as someone who is married to someone with crippling anxiety and depression, what is his take on how to stay positive and not let it take you down while also being supportive of the one you love. I struggle with this all the time. It's hard when you feel like you try everything and you know it's not you it's just a "bad day", but sometimes it's hard to separate yourself from the disease. I absolutely love every single person I love This podcast. Jared adds so much humorous edge and has such a good wholesome attitude. Chris is literally me in almost every single way. He’s so kind and shy. Ryland is himself and always golden. Literally the queen. He’s the star on the Christmas tree. I can’t ever imagine him gone. He’s everything. Shane is Shane 😂💕I’ve always loved him and I always will. He can be dark but I love it and always relatable and I’ll never get tired of his humor. He’s hilarious and charismatic. I’ve been watching him since I was like 12/13 and I’m 25 now 😅😂I love this whole group.

I got kind of emotional when Jarod was describing his dmt experience because I went through the same thing. But I was lile Chris and Shane and terrified of trying it. So the funny thing is, is I went to take a dab of regular wax, just thc, but I accidentally did the dmt. I remember feeling kind of funny for a second and then smelling it and realizing it and screaming, "I accidentally did the dmt!" And when I said dmt my voice went into slow motion and I collapsed. I remember thinking I killed myself too, and being not ready to go. That feeling of being not ready to go keeps me from being as suicidal as I used to be. I've had some pretty crazy experiences on acid as well, some of my most defining moments as a person were on psychedelics. One time I was on acid and i was in a really bad spot in my relationship with my mom and I was listening to music she used to listen to when I was a kid and I felt like I was her. And I was able to forgive her for her flaws, because I have flaws too. I've been on mushrooms and rollerblading and saw a butterfly next to me flying with me, and realized all animals are the same thing in a different form. There have been times I'm even so high on just weed, I feel like I can see out of my animal's eyes and feel what they feel. I've been vegan for 5 years and that's why. Anyways just brought up a lot of memories. Once you realize you are God, but so is everyone else, the world changes. And once you understand the butterfly effect, life has so much more purpose. We change the world daily.

I just want to add, rylan, I love you. You’re literally a gay icon. This podcast wouldn’t be as amazing without each one of you. You’re perfect and if people are mad, let them stay mad.

The only thing that helps me when I have an anxiety or panic attack is repeatedly telling myself “remember, you’ve been through this many times before and you’ve made it out perfectly fine. You are going to be OK and you know that. You’ve made it through this before and you’ll make it through it again and everything is going to be alright.”

Yeah that trick Chris talked about is something a lot of therapist and other mental health resources say... it's called grounding yourself in reality and not the intrusive thoughts in your head! Super helpful!

The only thing I didn’t like here is when Shane interrupted and immediately shutdown Ryland when he tried to speak about his own anxiety. Give him a chance to tell his truth too. Love you guys and this was otherwise another fantastic episode!!

Jerid's way of describing prayer was so spot on! Like I felt that in my soul. I've never heard anyone say it so well before! Honestly, it made my day! Thank you Jerid and God Bless!💜

Shane I struggle with OCD intrusive thoughts as well as anxiety but I’m also terrified of medications. My therapist recommended I start trying to give my brain the building blocks it needs to make the feel good chemicals (serotonin and dopamine) increase in my brain. So I started taking inositol with is a b vitamin and gaba and it’s helped so much. My anxiety is still there but it doesn’t have as much control if that makes sense. Almost like I can view it from a distance instead of it swallowing me. Same with the decrease in the over taking ability the intrusive thoughts had as well. I wanted to share so you could potentially look into those supplements. PLEASE THUMBS UP SO SHANE CAN SEE!

Jared’s DMT experience brought me chills. What a powerful experience. This whole episode was very worthwhile; kinda heavy but also surprisingly tolerable with the all the humor sprinkled in. Perfect!

I personally do not believe that Shane is mean to ryland. If you’ve been waiting Shane, you would know he is just a very funny person and he is joking most of the time. It’s also not fair to assume that their personal life is bad because non of us know how it is.

    Shane and crew:
This makes me feel a little less alone in a world that I don't seem to fit in. I wanna thank you. You are all such kindred spirits. Much love always!
