I was struggling with it, as I love The Isley Brother’s version. So in my head, and with my strumming, I was trying to match their version. Now I have embraced the original, I am getting there and more importantly I am enjoying it. I am OK with chords, changes etc, now working on shuffles - you’ve opened my eyes to it. I gave up the guitar many years, but now rediscovered the joys of playing.

Your Maggie May lesson popped up on my youtube home page... Very nice... I watched your Sweet Child of Mine lesson on your channel - REALLY GOOD! ... then, Summer Breeze by Seals & Crofts... This is one of the songs that made me fall in love with the guitar as a little boy. I wanted to make a list of some acoustic songs I could play & sing with around the "campfire" and then review/learn how to play them... And you just did it for me! Thanks and great teaching!! What state are you in? I'd be up for in-person lessons!

Great lesson on a great old song Lauren. Older re-learner here not too far from you up here in Southern NH. Really enjoying some of your stuff, but I see you have an electric. Got any more song lessons planned on that? My squires not getting much use cause I find I'm drawn to playing these 70's and 80's folk songs and I love finger picking, but I just got to find a reason to pick up the Tele more. -Moe

Hey guys ! here are some tips for all your beginners out there who want to actually level up their playing, especially if you want to start getting into the idea of playing lead guitar riffs, lead guitar melody lines and even lead guitar solos ! It is always good to know what your starting note is ! I call the starting the note the "Springboard note" . This note actually propels you forward and starts the riff off, or starts the lead melody line off or starts the solo off. It is also good to split the lead melody lines and riffs and solos into very small manageable chunks that are a lot easier to learn rather than try and learn the whole entire thing at once. So to start off with when learning more complicated riffs and lead lines and solos it is good to start off learning the very first 3 - 4 notes of the riff/lead line or solo. You then go from there and then once you get that down and learn that then you learn the next 3 notes, and you do this until you have learnt that whole entire riff or lead melody line or lead guitar solo or whole entire section of music (verse or bridge or chorus or intro, solo section or ending you know etc). You then move on to the next section or next piece of music etc. Hopefully this makes things easier ! :) Have fun ! :)
