Listen to this song a few times and you will realise just how good it is ! Catchy lines and great melodies, Farlowe's gutsy growling gravel voice matches perfectly to the deep saxophone and brilliant orchestration, the tubular bells give a hint of Phil Spectors' "wall-of-sound" style and its topped off with Jaggers soaring vocals through the song and his "is everybody ready" near the close ! Just a fabulous production all around ! Still sounds great 50+ years after it was written & recorded !!!
Great and unusual lyric. Works brilliantly in the song. One of the greats. How was the string section orchestrated ? Has this ever been performed with a full orchestra ?
Just looked Chris Farlowe up on the internet and was astonished to find that he's now 83 and will be 84 in October but you say he's still performing. Wow. That's fantastic.
Just brilliant. And that combination of singing with that fantastic orchestra.Whoever arranged it must be just brilliant with music.Loving it all.Cheers.
Charlie Watts drumming is also fantastic. This is what a drummer should do, keep the beat and no one does it better than Charlie the most underrated member of the Stones.
There's a bar in Spain that has karaoke twice a week, an English bloke, Brian, got up to sing this and he was excellent! Thanks Brian, love this song 🎵 ❤ 👍🍺
I would have liked to have seen and heard that, so it's a pity none of the audience filmed him singing it, as any one of you could have then uploaded it to RUclips.
Raelene nobody i remember listening to this song as a 12 year old and loved it back then, i'm 20 now and love the song just as much as i did back then.
I've always loved Chris's version of this song written by Mick and Keith and with them singing the backing vocals. I always found Keith's extremely casual "clever girl" amusing as if he could hardly be bothered and loved Mick's "ooh ooh ooh". A cleverly written song and all together a great track.
I don't know if you are aware of this, but there is a remastered 2CD compilation available of Chris Farlowe's best work called 'Out Of Time: The Immediate Anthology'. I have a copy of that album myself, so I can wholeheartedly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.
“When you come to the end of the line with a buddy who’s more than a brother and a little less than a wife, getting blind drunk together is really the only way to say farewell”
a long time ago a girl I was involved with for 3 years thought this is it found the right one. You can guess broke my heart. Fast forward 25 years hooked up on Facebook met her for a coffee. Played this song on utube looked at her smiled said time has aged you drank the coffe kissed her on the cheek said goodbye never contact me again you are obselete my baby. Wanted us to hook up in her social world of teachers an academics I'm a joiner this song saved me met the real love of my life still together we still dance to this song. Know it word for word.
William Osborne I have a similar story. After many ŷears, I met up with the boy who crushed my life. After blaming myself for soooo long, I finally got the missing pieces of the jigsaw. I felt like I'd put myself through it again but I do not regret meeting up with him, it needed to be done. I needed the closure. I was now free to live the rest of my life in peace. When he asked to see me again, it was very much a case of "you're obsolete, my baby, my poor unfaithful baby!"

Very novel idea! Sounds like you've taken the version from Farlowe & panned it all hard right, the version from Metamorphosis & panned it all hard left seeing as they have the same backing track. Cheers Tiger.
+Tiger Moth Thank you Tiger Moth, this exactly what I made, the backing tracks are the same, if you take a look at some of my other mixes, I did the same thing and called them : "odd Duos" or "same backing track, different artists".

this cat Farlowe should'a sung ALL of the Rolling Stones songs
He is a better singer than Mick!
This song will never be out of time...Chris and Mick...Can't go wrong.

Art Greenslade was the arranger.
Agree, the instrumental portion is so exciting (if not actually riveting).

Charlie Watts drumming is also fantastic. This is what a drummer should do, keep the beat and no one does it better than Charlie the most underrated member of the Stones.
What a combination of two great singers together with a great band
Needed a British back up. USA you have nothing on us.
One of the best recordings in pop ever
Chris must be the most underrated singer ever, he still sounds good in his old age
Certainly is caught some u tube vids with him invited to live gig
Him and Terry Reid.

I saw chris Farlowe perform this great number with the Thunderbirds in 1966.Fantastic from the soul
So did i the week he was number (in Ramsgate Kent)
a friend from the UK saw Chris & the thunderbirds with Albert lee on guitar & Carl palmer on drums, said Chris the guv'ner of British singers

ONE OF OUR ALL TIME FAVOURITES ON RADIO SUTCH 1964
Chris Farlowe is absolutely the owner of this special song he does it so much better than the Rolling Stones which for me is difficult to admit
😊
I'm a bit older than my years it would seem as I love music of this era and fly around in vintage biplanes...
Wow ...just wow ( been a Farlowe follower since the 60's)
