The line about wife and kids is about the now him. She’s still frozen at the restaurant, but years passed, he moved on, got married, had children. But her heart broke and can’t be repaired, so the happiness he got she can’t achieve
“Right where you left me” is incredibly written! This song is so relatable, everyone has had some kind of heart break in their lives. The tension Taylor builds up to the part “I could feel the mascara run” gets me every time. It’s sad to think you can be so heartbroken replaying that moment in your head because that type of heartbreak never leaves us… we just learn to deal. Taylor Swift is a lyrical genius!
Her breath control on this song is incredible. It's also SUCH a wordy song -- she sang it as a surprise song on the Eras tour and messed it up. 😆One of my favorites from Evermore.
It’s a song about not being able to move on after someone you thought was the one broke things off. Her being stuck in the restaurant collecting dust while everything and everyone around her moves on is a metaphor for the numbing feeling the moment he broke up with her while at their favorite restaurant. The song then continues to describe how time felt like it stopped for her while his entire future flashed before her eyes knowing she wouldn’t be able to move on so easily, and all she would do would be reliving this moment, the moment he left her life, over and over for the rest of her life.
I love this song, it’s one of my favorites! She’s basically talking about how she’s still stuck in the moment he told her he was in love with somebody else, she can’t move on, time’s passed, she knows he’s probably married with kids but she doesn’t know and don’t want to know for sure cause she “can’t bear witness” but if he ever feel like he was wrong for breaking up with her she’s still waiting for him, just like she was before. It’s a heartbreaking song with amazing storytelling.
Based on the new play lists taylor just released on Apple Music, it's looking more and more like most of these songs are revealing the truth about the tumultuous relationship of Joe and Taylor. Swiftologist just put out an excellent video examining the play lists. I can't wait for TTPD. It's going to be a blast.
This is actually one of my very favourite Taylor songs top 5 at least. It's the almost relentless rhythm of it that really moves me and then the layering harmonies as the song progresses. And then when she goes into the present tense, all the music just drops away for a minute...it's so chilling and so moving to me! Thematically, it's so relatable too. So often in life, romantically, we get really stuck on one person, usually a young love, that just didn't work. In so many ways, I think she's also saying that this moment she's frozen in was a moment she stopped being the person she was before and that every moment after this would be influenced by this heartbreak too. I enjoyed your reaction, thank you 😊
@IvyCowboy thanks I didn't realize that I had just seen it myself. I will have to check it out. I just try to send him things that I think he might like.
@@melisabuckley2873 Oh, no worries! It's hard to know sometimes if he's done something bc he's got a bit of a backlog. I think he's been pretty busy lately.
All the comments stated here, I agree with, concerning a love she lost, and she was stuck. But it also reminds me of the line in Miss Americana where she says " you freeze at the age you get famous" and she had to break out of that and learn how to grow and move on to becoming the person she is today. I may be wrong, but its just one part that it reminds be of.
love it! a great companion piece to this song is "It's Time to Go". These two songs act like alternate endings to the Evermore album. It's Time to Go also ties into Taylor's life (i wont ruin how or why)
i don’t know or care who’s about, for me is pure grief in 4 minutes, can’t even listen to this one cause it takes me back to my beloved bf who passed away. so so so sad and heartbreaking
This song really should be paired with "Time to Go." They were released together for a reason as they speak to each other. When heartbreak happens you have the choice to let it destroy you and hold you back... or you can choose to take ownership of the situation. One is a victim mentality the other is empowered.
maybe it's just me --- I think of the Teardrops on My Guitar song and it seems like the same characters, just later. He's still the oblivious best friend; she's still waiting for him to figure it out. Wonder if going over her old diaries and music is what inspired this?
People can say what they want but I think this one is about Harry. She was 23 when they split up. I think The 1 was about Harry too, which fits the narrative of this song. Corner I haunt (two ghosts), and then there's "trends change rumors fly though new skies but (we never go out of style)... just my interpretation. Don't come at me.
rare take: it's time to go >>>> right where you left me you should react to that next, it was the other bonus song on evermore and it contradicts rwylm, but in it's time to go, there can be clearly read elements of Taylor's life especially with the situation about her masters
Or is there a connection and a reason that It’s Time to Go follows Right Where You Left Me? Fascinating that RWYLM references being frozen and then we get “he’s got my past frozen behind glass, but I’ve got me.” Taylor usually makes it easy to interpret her songs in different ways, including as a romantic relationship. Regardless, I love both, but It’s Time to Go is definitely my favorite of the two.
Some swifties think parts of this song relate to her friendship with Karlie Kloss and its ending mainly because she was okay with her then boyfriend’s investment firm purchasing Taylor’s masters behind Taylor’s back for scooter Braun.
The line "you could hear a hairpin drop" is interesting, because she changed it from the actual phrase "you could hear a pin drop." A "hairpin drop" is a historic phrase that means "to drop clues, if not outright statements, about one's own homosexuality in an effort to induce one's interlocutor to follow suit." It's also interesting that later in the song it says her hair is pinned up, so the hairpin never dropped.
It's why the Stonewall Riot was called "the hairpin drop heard around the world." And she made this same change again in The Great War on Midnights which confirms that it wasn't an accident.
“ if our love died young I can’t bear witness” kills me everytime 😩

"Right were you left me" and "It´s time to go" are 2 alternative endings to the "Evemore "album.

This is so underrated. Hauntingly beautiful, sad, tragic…just love this song. The imagery she paints is so vivid.

We all know someone who hasn’t been able to move on from a certain relationship - time marches on, but they seem frozen in that time.
There's a live version of My Tears RICHOCHET on the Eras tour you might like since you liked when you saw the long pond studio sessions
He's seen it and it's posted (August/Illicit Affairs/MTR) ;)

this is just an incredible story and song. so very well performed.

I LOVE this song. She’s such an incredible story teller. Glad you enjoyed this one :)
I feel the story is a metaphor about feeling stuck in life while the whole world moves on around you. It is a made up story, not about Taylor.
Hey love your videos ❤❤ I think you should give ‘safe and sound’ a listen
It has some of her best vocals in my opinion
love it! a great companion piece to this song is "It's Time to Go". These two songs act like alternate endings to the Evermore album. It's Time to Go also ties into Taylor's life (i wont ruin how or why)
It's a great song! I''ve been frozen in time as dust at a restaurant after a relationship a few times so I can relate.
I love this song so much and I also love your reactions
My first time hearing this song...gonna need to pick apart the lyrics and watch this reaction video again 💯
i don’t know or care who’s about, for me is pure grief in 4 minutes, can’t even listen to this one cause it takes me back to my beloved bf who passed away. so so so sad and heartbreaking

How do I request you review some Taylor songs? You need to listen to "I know Places," "Maroon" and "Clean."

You’ll get there don’t worry… she’s amazing

He’s not gonna like country Taylor at all is he?
Hopefully he doesn’t change his mind about becoming a Swiftie
She been had by a married. Man and she can’t move on but there so much time has past she still that one man

I knowthis is very unpopular, but, i dont get the Taylor craze. I dont hate her..i mean good on her!.its just not for me!
The melody is country. it's not my cup of tea.
Ugh. What a fraud.
What?
