If anyone worried about age with 3 legged cats our cat has had 3 since the age of 1 and is now 17 years of age but is now getting very slow. But I just want people to know that with 3 legs they still live a long and happy life :)

3 legged cats do just fine. One day when i lived in the country. A 3 legged stray cat adopted me as her new human. I had 2 other cats and they had to defend themselves from her. She could run just as fast as a 4 legged cat and spent just as much time outside as my other 2 cats. The only time she needed my help was when she had an itch and tried to scratch her head with her missing leg.

Just thought I'd add that after surgery, your cat might not be quite 'with it'. Make sure that loud noises are kept to a minimum and your kitty has a place they can be by themselves if everything gets too much for them. We have a large crate with a blanket covering it for our newly 3 legged friend :) (if anyone is worried about their cat adjusting, you'll be surprised how quickly they get used to it! It was our youngest's first day today and, although he has fallen over and bumped into things several times, he's pretty much back to his usual self (only more sleepy and jumpy)!!)

Thank you for your video. I have a tripod male cat named smokey i have had for 6 wonderful years. 4 years ago he had a tumor growing on his left back leg. It got to be the size between a golf ball and soft ball. The vet told me either put him down or let the vet amputate the whole leg. I couldnt put my little buddy down he was full of life and has a long life ahead of him. So my husband and I decided to have smokeys back leg amputated. It took a couple months for our cat to go back to normal. Now hes back to his happy self and runs and jumps just like he used to. In fact he actually now can stand on his one back leg every to get my attention every once in a while. I even made a step ladder out of two very sturdy cardboard boxes full of stuff for him to be able to jump on the bed better I hope anyone who sees this video who is new to tripods or anyone with a tripod cat will watch this video.

This video and the comments have been very encouraging. My male black shorthair has an low grade sarcoma in his hind right leg. After hearing some traumatic options (traumatic for both the treatment and the cost) of radiation, I am deciding on amputation for the most effectively curative option. the good news the sarcoma is contained, low grade, and non metastatic. trying to come to this decision has been so difficult but prospects are so good. thank you for this!

This video is so adorable! He's so energetic for being a tripod. My three legged friend Graham was just a barn kitten before he decided to climb a little too high up in a tree! He totally biffed it, shattering his femur and splitting open his lip. He got his right back leg amputated, and even the day after his surgery he was running around and wanted nothing more than to get that stupid cone off his head. Now he's the most loving cat we've ever had. Watching him grow up and get around is still one of the most hilarious and touching things I've ever experienced.

My 13 year old fur baby just had her front left paw & shoulder blade amputated on May 28th. I wasn’t prepared for it to include the shoulder blade and it was extremely challenging to keep her from trying to lick her staples. They were removed yesterday and she is progressing. I’m just trying to keep her from jumping until she heals a little more. Seeing this video was wonderful, thank you for posting it!! I don’t think she’ll every be quite that active but who knows. I’m sure she must of been in some pain with almost a golf ball size tumor a little below her elbow joint. She never limped however but she would hold that paw up when sitting. It was a very aggressive tumor and I’m praying that she never has another one. Thanks again, you’ve lifted my spirits with hope!!

This video gave me immense comfort. I have an injured kitten... and will know within the next month whether she will need an amputation. I’m so scared and worried. 😢❤️😘

i adopted a 3 legged cat a year and 1/2 ago. She was born with her one back legged deformed. I am amazed at what she does. She climbs trees and is a great hunter

Having our 4 year old Cat's front leg is pretty devastating for us and we think it's a freak accident of falling from 3red floor, which could be avoided.
Then thankfully we found him alive the next day and due to his relocated and fractured limb, amputation is the best the vet suggests other than having a non functional limb. Thanks for sharing this video. Hope he can be as he was before..fun, active and comfortable in his skin😔

We adopted Sophie, age 4, soon after she lost a hind leg. It is amazing how quickly she adapted to it. The cat can run and ascend stairs fast. Also, she holds her own with our existing four legged cat.

My childhood kitty had one of his back legs amputated due to cancer. He was getting up there in age already and very chonky, but he still managed to get around everywhere he needed to and could run fast enough to get away from danger (like a vacuum cleaner). He only needed help scratching sometimes because he would try to use the leg that wasn't there anymore :D
We're now considering to adopt a tripod with a front leg missing, just like the one in the video!

My experience with 3 legged animals is that they don't let their disability hinder them, because in the wild, their natural instincts wouldn't allow it to. They learn, adapt and keep on moving.

Our kitty Birdie lacks one hind leg but boy is he fast! The only struggle he has from time to time is balance, but he compensates well. One thing we have learned to do for him is to scratch the side of his head that he can't get to because that leg is missing. Your kitty will like that too. Another kitty is Chester, and though he has all his legs, his hind legs are missing some of the muscles he needs to make them operate properly, so they tend to splay outward often, especially on slippery surfaces. We have vinyl floors but we make sure there are throw carpets and runners in most areas to minimize the sliding around. He's honestly more like a dog than a cat - seeks company and hovers around often when we are walking around the house. Cats with disabilities are so rewarding to have and love.

Our poor baby came home last night after a hunter shot him. We live out in the country and I've always worried about some bored hunter coming across him. The bullet shattered his elbow and broke his arm. Amputation is our only option at this point. And we were contemplating what kind of life he would have missing a front leg. I just hated to be so cruel just to keep him alive for our sakes. But after seeing this cat so happy and healthy with no limitations it's given our family, especially our kids, hope for his future. He's the best cat and we love him. He's one of our kids. And he's only 2. He still has many years ahead!

My little Thunder has no problem at all getting around. When we got her, my mom thought she wouldn't be able to get on the counters, and how wrong she was. The little monster gets on the counters, on my bunk bed, has accidentally fallen off the bunk bed by saying on a pillow that was hanging half way off, and STARTS every single cat problem in the house. She's missing a back leg and has her other leg and tail broken. It isn't really surprising, though, our house flooded recently so we were all at my grandparents' house. The two older 4 legged ones stayed in an empty cabinet for the first few days, and the 3 legged brat was exploring the entire place. It's not surprising at all how her legs would have gotten broken.

My three legged cat Chicken was born without his leg and he is an absolute monster. He rules the house, beats up the other cat and is crazy strong. Sometimes we think he might have a leg missing to make the world safer. He’s a great cat and love how crazy his is.

We adopted a tri-pod Maine Coon fur ball just over a month ago, and we're still setting up the house to suit him. Without his right front leg, he's pretty agile, and it seems like his worst problems are sometimes not remembering that he's only got 3 legs, and a bit of flightyness from whatever terrible trauma led to the loss of said leg. We'll probably never know what that was. The SPCA found him with 3 legs, and no identity.

My kitten, Eli, has a broken back leg, it’s broken in two places and had already started to heal when we found her. The vets said she’d have to be 4 to 5 months before she could get surgery. She’s nearing 4 months now and I can’t wait until she can go into surgery, because her leg is a hindrance to her, it drags on the floor and gets sores, it gets stuck when she tries to jump over things and it must be painful. My grandmother (from my dad’s side) doesn’t like her because of her leg, as much as i try to tell her that ‘what if dad lost his leg, would you hate him for it? No, so why do you hate her for it’ and i think she’s catching on.

Apparently loosing one in the front is worse ... than the back. - but ur cat is coping well! Thanks for the vid... i will prepare my furniture accordingly.... my cat will be coming back in a couple days from the vet, minus a back leg. :(

There is a 3 legged cat at my local shelter that I've been considering. I'm currently not in the position to take her but if shes still there when i am i will try to adopt her. but on to my question. since i haven't gotten a cat tree yet would you recommend the larger ones like yours or something smaller/shorter? shes missing her hind left leg, 1-2 years old, if i adopt her she will be an only cat in a small apartment.
it's just something I've been thinking about. when i first decided i was going to get a cat i wanted a really tall tree but now that i found Muppi i wonder if maybe something shorter and simpler would be better.
