Bahn cuon is one of my favorites. I get mesmerized watching the woman making it. The timing and assembly line process has to be perfect. There is a square tray variation, but I prefer the circular one like what is eating. I just love watching them make it.
I like your videos so much. My sister and I were watching this and we were like ' how? How can he eat everything properly?? ' As a Vietnamese, I'm so proud and happy that you enjoyed the food there so much. I love how you describe every dish you have with the most flawless words and you look so passionate abt it too. I'm also impressed with your chopsticks skills lol. My fav youtuber!!
Tks for travelling to Vietnam and introuduce Vietnamese foods for your friends in the world Mark. Hope you comeback next time and enjoy more than. Nice to meet you !!
There he is again, Mr.Mark, the best food blogger and food reviewer on RUclips! Thanks for another awesome food review Mark, ! With respect Mr.Molina San Diego California!
Hi Mark, believe it or not, I always waiting for your food review. Since i have no idea where should i travel this year and since i went to thailand 3 times and try most of your food recommendation, i think i'll go to vietnam this year. Also, this banh cuon make my mouth watering. Thanks for your effort Mark. Looking forward for your next videos. Dont forget to come to Indonesia as well. Cheers.
you know the foood is super duper amazing good is when mark tilt his head to the right 45 degree with closing eyes and that "hmm" humming. The food is good, not super duper is when he only tilts his head to the right at 45 degree but with no closing eyes
Nice video. I don’t know how to eat this stuff so I looked here and found this video. I get this stuff at THH Sandwiches and Coffee in Tustin, Ca. They have it ready to go at the register in a plastic wrapped plate. Comes with around 6 rice paper & ground pork pouches, dipping sauce, crispy onion & garlic sprinkles, and a side of sprouts. They have spring rolls with peanut sauce and other ready to go dishes too. The sandwiches there are the bomb. Gooood goood goood! 😋😋😋😋
Mark, that was a lot of chili that you put into the sauce....lol. This dish looks really good and yet light!!! I would love this, and as always I love to watch your facial expressions...its so cute!!!
I've been to VN so many times, but I've never tried this. I'm definitely going to this restaurant after seeing you eat this and Kyle and Ole Boy recommending this place. Thanks for the video!
I know I'm a little late in commenting, but better late than never, right? I think this is one of the most delicious looking dishes you have ever eaten. I've never heard of either, before. I only hope, one day, I'm able to experience these dishes! Thank you for sharing this with us! I would have never known about it. Hopefully, I can find this in a restaurant near me!
You made the fish sauce so wonderful. The fish sauce is watered down a little bit bit for these dishes in order to make it less salty. So, you need to pour the fish sauce into the dish to get the full effect. The Banh Beo you eat is a dry version. There is also another version with some kind of paste on top rather than the dry toppings and it is more common I guess. So wonderful to see you enjoy Vietnamese cuisine.
Hi Mark love your videos. Probably my favourite travel channel on youtube. One thing about the fish sauce for the banh cuon is generally you pour it over your banh cuon and eat it that way, adding more according to taste. Regardless the way you were eating it wouldn't have deterred from how it was meant to taste. But I'm sure plenty of people would have mentioned that already in the comments. There is also a lovely banh cuon place that do an egg variation of the banh cuon - they add in beaten egg to your rice flour crepe to give it a bright yellow colour and slight egg taste. It is one of my favourite places, at Banh Cuon Thien Huong, 179A 3 Tháng 2 (or Ba Thang Hai) street, Ward 11, District 10. .Love your reactions. We are heading back to HCMC next week. Sending love from Australia
you are killing me, man. I just had a green salad for lunch...I will look for a recipe to cook this over the weekend. I am sure I can get the wrapper or something close in an asian food store. thanks for the inspiration! ty, chris
Yes you can find the bag of flour at any asian store, itll show the picture n the name on the bag. It's very easy to make and very delicious! If youve made crepes before, thats how you would make the rice flour wrapper.
Mark Wiens I like all the vedio that you have share coz I love all kinds of food you try. but the only thing I don't like is the way you act your face with open big big eye and your neck is moving around . just act like a normal people don't act.... too much . thanks for let me tell you something that I desapointed from you.
this is my favourite place for bánh cuốn before going vegetarian. The fish sauce that goes with it has added water, sugar, lime juice, chili and sometimes minced garlic. Looking forward to recreate vegan fish sauce !!
I really don't know how you find all these places. I've been to Ho Chi Minh City four times now, and I haven't found 1/5 of all the taste places you have found
John L. Fjellstad Thanks John, many of the places were recommended to me when I asked on this video ruclips.net/video/G6VhRn_mTrg/видео.html so it was really great to have some local suggestions.
Hi Mark... Are you back in Vietnam or is this vid from your last visit? The food over there looks amazing!! When I'm back in Thailand I can't wait to check out some of the joints you've recommended and hopefully you'll be in town to come along. I think all your food loving fans owe you a lunch or dinner for making such great vids. You make my mouth water every time ! Think I might have to consider hopping over to Saigon to try some of that great looking food when I'm in that part of the world. Keep up the great work !!
Hey Mark... Thanks for the reply. Yea, I visit Thailand very often and I'll be back in July. Hopefully you'll be around as it would be great to meet (and eat with) you one day... I love the vid you did with the street cart ' The Ultimate Thai Chicken Recipe'.... Very hard to choose but I think that's my fave. Amazing !! Keep it up dude !!!
Everytime I watch your video's, my mouth waters and I want to go to my closest Asian / Thai, Viet place to eat. only problem is the food isn't near as good here.
I just stumbled across your channel and love your videos! You should really have a series on Tastemade! Banh Cuon is one of my favorite dishes and I am very lucky to live in LA where we have restaurants that serve this!
It is coconut milk, and there is a variant that may well be Lao since it was at a Laotian Market I used to get it that is the coconut batter cooked with green onions on the top. Sweet, coconut with onion sounded strange to me, so I tried it and fell in love.
I made Banh Cuon for dinner one night, found a good recipe on YT, the family loved the different taste, might have to make this again, cheers from New Zealand
you knw what mark... when i don't fell like eating OR when i hve to eat the food that i don't like ..i just look into ur food videos and i eat more than i thought.....thank u
My mouth is watering watching you eat. Banh cuon is one my favorite VN dishes, I grew up eating them in Saigon. No one can make them like that in Canada. :(
You should travel to St. Paul MN the next time you are in the US again. We have an Asian market called Hmong Village that features most of the food that you have been eating. They have a mixture of Thai, Laotion, and Vietnamese food all at this market. Plus, they are mostly made by people who use to live in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. So it's pretty authentic food.
Bánh-cuốn is my fav dish of foods that made from rice flour. And You should have dipped the Bánh-bèo in mixed fish sauce, Mark. That how the dish should be eaten. But it’s good that you have tried our foods.
I love Banh Cuon, especially when prepared fresh! Yummy:) Your vietnam videos are all good, I am Viet and have been to Vietnam. You did a great job showcasing our food. What is your background Mark?
Pretty much everyone I know loves banh cuon, including me. I can eat this by the boat load. Usually, we pile some into a bowl, toss in all the veggies, thinly sliced ham, and fish sauce and eat it. Like a noodle bowl of sorts. Yum, yum, yum!!
Hi Ying. & Mark, Both types looked delicous. I've had the Chinese style ones with sharsui pork in them, but never had the Vietnamese type. Hope you two are doing well. Jim.
Hey Mark! Love your videos by the way. If u absolutely want the best banh cuon in the world then you must go to Hai Phong city up in the north. Once you had it there you won't ever want it anywhere else. Trust me.
The Banh Cuon looks so yummy, The chillie and fish sauce makes my mouth water. the other dish also looks great have to try and find it here in so. Cal. You did a wonderful job as always Mark. You represent the Vietnamese food very well. Keep up your wonderful gastronomical adventure. I hope if you go the Philippines you let me show you the world I know in Manila and places. I know you would represent it well. god bless you and your wife mark.
Mark Wiens No worries. I enjoy and envt what you do. To be honest your living the life I wanted.lol. You Have nothing but my full support Mark. Enjoy it while you have it. Your a lucky and blesses man to do what you do, be where you are and have such a supportive family and wife. I only wish you the best mark
In Chinese cooking there is a dish that is a You Tiao (an oily deep fried stick of savoury dough usually served with congee) that is wrapped in this kind of rice noodle creep. It's yummy!!
When I was a child my grandma used to give me every morning few coins to have my banh cuon breakfast at the next door restaurant. My favorite breakfast dish then
I love banh cuon Hai Nam! I go there really often! Surprisingly, I like the banh cuon at Ben Thanh market better. But the best banh cuon in the world? That one is in California at Pho Tau Bay in Santa Ana.
hey mark , i think the best way to eat banh cuon would be to pour the fish sauce onto the plate that way you don't have to dip it and it end's up falling apart , thanks for posting the vid :p
Those are Chả Lụa - a Vietnamese pork roll ham. There are different kinds of Vietnamese ham: chả lụa (pork), chả bò (beef), chả cá (fish), chả quế (pork mixed with cinnamon)... I'm Vietmese =)
Hùng Nguyễn ahhhhhh thanks for that. I thought chả cá was "fried fish". That is a really popular dish in Hanoi. You eat it with the purple shrimp paste. I never knew it was made into a "ham" first. So chả = "ham" or "sausage"? Kind of like anything with "che" = sweets?
The best sauce for this dish is a chili dip that consists of fresh Thai Chili pepper, cilantro, green onion, dry, roasted chili powder, roasted, ground peanuts, MSG, fish sauce, a little bit of water and lime juice. You can add toasted sticky rice too if you want. This sauce tastes better than that one.
Oh, i have a suggestion. If u go to VN again, please try 'Vietnamese pizza'. It's not like any pizza that u try in anywhere else in the world. It's originally from Dalat (VN) but some place in Sai Gon have it too. The famous street which sell it is Cao Thang (they only sell from 6pm).
Mark, I've just discovered you today, but I'm hooked. You are truly living the life man!
***** Thank you very much Franciscus
Wow, you can handle the better than most vietnamese People. You didn't even break a sweat. Love your channel. Now I miss VN because of you
I'm kind of addicted to your videos. I find it puzzling how nobody has thought of it before. In depth food tasting etc... Your videos are original.
Bahn cuon is one of my favorites. I get mesmerized watching the woman making it. The timing and assembly line process has to be perfect. There is a square tray variation, but I prefer the circular one like what is eating. I just love watching them make it.

You're welcome, thank you for watching Tieu O'Brien, that's a dish I didn't have a chance to try. Is it one of your favorites?
Yes, it's one of my favorite noodle dishes of Vietnamese cuisine.

The Banh Cuốn THiên Hương is my favorite breakfast spot. I ate this every morning since i was 5. In my opinion, it's better than Mark Wiens' place.

Love it when you're in Vietnam! it might be easier to eat it in a bowl including the vegetables and the fish sauce mixed together
Thank you very much defjamblade, that's a good idea.
Sidestep while closing eyes and say "mmmmmmmmmmm" to notify the food is good.

Every Food story is beautiful but ours is my favourite.
Will you be updating your Google Map with all of the Saigon restaurants? That would be amazing!
Mark you should have seen that Banh Trang Re in Vietnam. Banh trang Re is a spider netted egg roll wrapper it is made there.
That Bánh Béo looks soooo good.
I just love this! I need to get my mom to make this for me.

In Chinese cooking there is a dish that is a You Tiao (an oily deep fried stick of savoury dough usually served with congee) that is wrapped in this kind of rice noodle creep. It's yummy!!

Do you run food tours? Man, i can't wait to travel to SE Asia.

you are very good at using chopsticks, better than some chinese! :)

I will travel there just to eat! Omg, I'm so hungry now. hehehe
loving your Vietnam series very much. and i think those are fish cakes and not sausages ? i've had them before , i think they are the same thing?
There sausages I am viet
Those are Chả Lụa - a Vietnamese pork roll ham. There are different kinds of Vietnamese ham: chả lụa (pork), chả bò (beef), chả cá (fish), chả quế (pork mixed with cinnamon)... I'm Vietmese =)
Viet pork has a different taste. idk why but it's delicious and unique.
Android811 "Chả lụa" is a steamed pork roll. And "Chả" is different from "Chè" XD "Chè" is a kind of desserts.
That sweet fish sauce is sooooooooo goooooood.
Looks SOOOO GOOD have to go home and make me some :)
judyvang2009 Thank you, sounds delicous!
