  • This video depicts the construction of a new manhole being installed over an existing line in a very tight area.
I condensed this video to 9.5 minutes from two days' work.
    Thank you for watching.

No shoring, no hard hats, no vests.....is excavating and trenching safety a joke to you? You need a nice big OSHA fine to change your thinking!

Seriously, whoever was in charge of this should have his contractors license revoked for putting his men in harms way.........obviously he only care's about the $'s rather than the safe wellbeing of his crew.

@@barryguerrero6480 don’t talk to me about being buried I’ve been there myself when I worked for a scumbag outfit that didn’t know what they were doing back in the day broke three ribs and punctured my left lung at 16 years old. I know how fast it can happen and I know how it happens. I’ve been doing this a very long time and in this particular instance shoring was not needed. It would have been all that little excavator had to beat a steel plate down that’s how hard that stuff was and I’m not sure it would have done it. You couldn’t maneuver a box in place because of the pole. Slide rail would have worked but it’s un necessary. The point is I’d go to sleep for the night in that hole the way it was.. and I would never send someone into a hole that I myself was not comfortable sleeping in for the night. Of course Saftey first always been saying it for 25 years

I absolutely agree with Mike's Model Reviews.
This is an example of how NOT to build a manhole. If this was one of my contractors, I would throw them off site and replace with a more competent contractor.

Thank you Luther for the most sensible reply. Yes you are right about the adjusting riser. This was an existing line and did not have the true elevations, plus we were on a tight schedule as the other contractor was coming through with the water. ALL the trolls and armchair superintendents on here don't have a CLUE about was is entailed to do real sewer work. Not a single one was smart enough to notice the shoring on the ground ready to be installed if needed. The ground was rock-hard and the utility company was holding the pole, not the "digger?" LOL....

Almost a guarantee that none of the knuckleheads commenting have ever worked in the industry. One look at the soil type and u can tell it doesn't need shoring. Stick to model building and landscaping & let the real men handle the big jobs.

You are a smart man my brother! Almost all the armchair inspectors have never even been on a real construction site! That jkhuskies (or whatever he trolls by) is a total jack-off! He is too stupid to see the shoring sitting next to the trench in case it was needed. He is one of those losers that would "snitch out" his own mother if she spat on the sidewalk!

Thank you for your comment Jose. You are the only "smart" person that commented from a real world. All the other stupid, ignorant armchair supers are too stupid to see that the shoring is on the ground next to the excavation. The ground was so hard I would have needed a pile driver to install it!I am retired now but was in the sewer business 47 years without EVER a mishap!I never responded to any of the idiotic comments as most all don't even come close to being "real" sewer rats. They TROLL around the internet looking for things that "they" find wrong or offensive. Most all are typical "Sheeple," that followed the lead of the first ignorant commenter.PS.... Sheeple is a REAL word.

It's not about union or non-union. It's about people working in an unprotected hole with vertical sides. Do you know how much a cubic yard of dirt weighs? Enough dirt on someone, it's a body recovery not a rescue.

This job was carried out in a very safe manner. A digger held up the pole whilst they worked. And it was unlikely that the trench was going to collapse l. Nice job guys. Keep up the good work

    • @jkhuskies09
      @jkhuskies09 5 лет назад +2

      Jim Foley are you blind?
No shoring at all, heavy equipment right next to the trench. Are you an engineer?
Do you know how much the soil is compacted or the water concentration?
You always use shoring in trenches deeper than 4 ft. If those walls caved any worker down there would be dead. Just last year a couple guys died in an open trench just like this in Minnesota.
No hard hats, vests or netting blocking off open pits. OSHA would shut these guys down in seconds. Speed and time restraints do not trump safety ever!

@@jkhuskies09 its obvious that shoring wasn't needed due to the soil type. Anyone in the industry would know that. Stop being a goddamn baby.

The_Iceman 1974 I guess you have never seen a man killed due to a cave in.
Doesn’t matter if it’s obvious or not. If OSHA came by and seen this they would have been written up and fined. Putting people’s lives at risk for speed is not acceptable.
You are the baby and an idiot!

Were you there? What were the penetrometer readings of the dirt in the sides? I wouldn't get down there, and I would not expect anyone else to, either.
