  • IN THIS EPISODE: Here are a few more books to learn how to draw from. The New Yorker has the best magazine cartoons to learn from, how to sum up a gag in one panel. Many different artists styles to learn from starting in 1925. And there are many collections to choose from. Norman Rockwell, considered by many to be America’s best illustrator, is one guy to learn from in the vast field of the Golden Age of Illustrators. His career spanned 5 or 6 decades, and he did so many magazine covers and other illustrations. Donald Duck comic strips from back in the day by Al Taliaferro is another great resource. He did the daily and Sunday strips of the duck. You can learn a lot here, from gag writing to composition to drawing shortcuts. How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way by Stan Lee and John Buscema. The first book about drawing comic books, and many of the lessons here can be applied to animation. Finally, Action Cartooning by Ben Caldwell, a great book of how draw super heroes but with more exaggeration and cartoony actions and proportions. Really great books which you can find at used book stores, new book stores, and ordering online as well……

How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way and Action Cartooning are both great books. I would also add, Caldwell's other book Fantasy Cartooning as well.
