Okay so I'm going to say my opinion. I'm a Muse fan since the 90s. And I still love muse to the core. But I agree that this song is not that good. It annoys me that some if not alot of Muse fans comparing this song to old Muse which has nothing to do with old Muse. All their old songs had a signature a very UNIQUE intro with a UNIQUE solo and Matt is very creative and talented in writing his songs that when he becomes very melodic he even adds the wuuuuuu aaaaaaaah oOoOO in between that's how much melodic he becomes. I mean comparing this song with old Rachmaninoff / Tchaikovsky classical Old Muse songs is unacceptable. I just wait for the beginning of the song and if I hear Matt talking rather than singing I just panic and know that this song won't be memorable and won't interest me. it annoys me that some Muse fans exaggerate with their impressions and expression while listening to this song and it doesn't deserve all this hype. I want to end by saying I really appreciate Muse that this is an uneasy industry and for them to survive till this day I respect them for that and proud to be a Muse fan. I hope to hear something creative and catchy and melodic by Muse. I want to hear Rock/symphony/piano concerto Muse. And Not this Muse .... P.S. I saw alot of Hate and anger from Muse fans in the comment section and I'm really surprised. Muse fans you are better than this. And I apologize on behalf of Muse Fans.

I agree I don't think this is Old Muse music, for this reason i think this is why i like this song. I never expect their music/albums to sound the same or similar. They're always changing. Do i prefer more of their "older" albums? Yes, but i still like most of their music. It took me a couple listens for this song to settle and grow on me, but i actually enjoy it.
I think that this song works and flows very well, actually, thanks to a great groove job done by Dom. Considering all the stuff going on in pre-chorus and chorus, what should they have done in the verse? It's simple and all based on Matt's vocals (so smooth and floating) and, IMHO, creates a really great contrast to the rest. It's not their masterpiece, but it's more Muse than it could seem at a superficial listening. Compare it to Imagine Dragons only for a shuffle tempo in the verse it's just very nonsense to me, the chromatic tension in the chorus screams MUSE everywhere and same for the guitar tones and the "fat" production. Anyway I respect your opinions, I think we agree it's not a masterpiece but it's not even to put in the garbage as you are probably suggesting. ;)

I think you need to listen to this song a bit more. The imagine dragons comparison is very lazy. Not their heaviest song but certainly very heavy guitar tones. Only criticism I have is that it's to short. 7 out of 10 at least.

Separate note: I would love to hear you guys talk about Charli XCX's music. Everything from the Vroom Vroom EP onward is some of the best, most interesting pop happening right now (in my opinion). @@TastesLikeMusic Nice..mine would just switch 00s and 10s. 80s was horrible (as a general matter..obviously there are always exceptions..Rush was great and a lot of individual songs from various bands were high quality)...but it ruined many 70s bands who didn't adapt well (you did a good episode on that) and every song had that same damn sound (more cowbell and less synths please! ;) unlike the 70s where everything sounded so organic. I liked a lot of bands that started around 2000 or so (Doves, and bands like them from England) which is why I'd switch 00s and 10s. Thanks for the responses. I love you guys.
Constructive criticism : a few days ago Stromae released in an unbelievably creative way his second single from his upcoming new album : L' Enfer (Hell), by starting singing it out of the blue in prime time at French TV during what it seemed an interview. The first single, Santé, was one of the best songs of 2021 to anyone who listened to it. His previous album Racine Carré (and all the videos released) is a master piece. I would personally be more interested in hearing your thoughts on his songs that about an awful song of a band that hasn't been at their best for over a decade. But I guess it's just me...
While I can definitely see the Imagine Dragons comparison, this song makes everything right that an Imagine Dragons song would do wrong. No painful vocal, a great chorus and not a too obvious song structure. That said, the more I listen to it, the less I like it, but we will see how it goes.
Matt Bellamy also sounds less like the singer of Shinedown when he tries to do those opening lines in a song. Imagine Dragons is like radio Disney Shinedown/ Starset without guitars.
By the way, I used to LOVE Imagine Dragons but they did a 180 at some point and now sound nothing like they did in their first two or three albums..anyone agree? I mean they don't even sound like the same band..they used to do really catchy and fun songs.

I found the over the top distortion really distracting on this song. I definitely was not a fan, I can see the Imagine Dragons comparison. Definitely not something to aspire to.
I think it’s pretty bad tbh. I keep waiting for them to recapture the magic of records like Origin of Symmetry and Absolution but they only keep digging a bigger and bigger hole. I like their first 5 or so albums but after that I can’t find much to enjoy. They used to make their melodramatic excess work and it gave their sound this over the top but sinister edge. They balanced their influences while carving out their own identity. Now they just feel like self parody.
It's clear more than ever at this point that the Origin/Absolution/Black Holes triptych is Muse's peak - since then it's been a mixture of decent and not-so-good.
Those verses were seriously painful, and the rest of it didn't fare much better. They can do much better than this, but they're just stuck in a hole. What once worked now sounds overproduced, and really average.
That's about it. Overproduced sing-song melody (at times) that tries too hard to be a rapmetal opera. I admit I don't like this band and hardly know them.

I was really underwhelmed by the new Muse single and I speak as someone who likes some of their more unpopular albums like The Resistance and Drones. Then again, I didn't rate Simulation Theory either, so I think I'm pretty much done with this band at this point. I feel like they're past their prime now.

I'm sorry but this channel has no business reviewing a song by Muse based on your previous videos. One could say you're all out of "tune" with current rock/metal culture.
Muse are one of my favorite bands, and sadly they have been in decline over the last 10+ years. I'll be the first to admit that this is probably their weakest single yet. But as Joe said, the initial single is usually the weakest and least creative song on the album, so I'm praying the album sounds better.

So where's the truth...no argumentation in this reaction, so you could say" i dont like it "and we would have get the same concept. If your goal is to give objective judgement you missed your chance; if your goal is to give a personal thought that's fine, you just had to specify. If your goal is to give objective judgement you missed your chance; if your goal is to give a personal thought that's fine, you just had to specify.
The guitar tone is only one of the things u said without argumentation: for example you have to give the definition of a song that is made of assembled parts. In my opinion there is only the objective of a defined and credible mood: in this case the rage from a painfull position is explored really well, with verse and chorus. If u want there are other reaction that explains,with argumentation,why the flow of the song is a pro.

Being objective is never my goal. I say what I think and people can take it however they like. The people who watch this channel a lot have a pretty good sense of my taste in music, so based on that they can decide whether or not to value my opinion. -Jason
