  • This is Karl the Rottweiler's second lesson. We already taught him the basics of engaging to his person, Jerome, so here we will work on some obedience basics, namely SIT and STAY. There are some very important things to look out for to keep your dog from getting confused. We want to make training fun and reward the dog for his successes. We also want to help him learn by limiting mistakes and growing from them. That's why you'll see I praise for attempts, but REWARD for success. This is huge! There's so much to learn and Karl and Jerome are doing great. Be sure to check out the full version of these lessons in my member only section at:

ON my site you'll see this and countless more videos. One I think you'll love is the continuing training of Karl where we work on his AKC Canine Good Citizen!
Also, remember I have an online course for dog trainers. It's very informative and takes place in a shelter using real shelter dogs... and that makes the training even more educational. Remember if you ca train a shelter dog, you can train any dog! Here's a link to the online course:

Carl is a really nice Rottie. Glad to see his owner cares enough to want to make him a really wonderful dog. Seems like a great person. So many people want their dog "trained" w/o follow up. Trainer's nightmare.

Early on they say to get your dog to yield to leash pressure, however, you are then incorporating leash pressure to reinforce the stay....confusing to the dog?

I like the tip on when to use the “dead” prong attachment works better on a prong, vs the swivel attachment.

Hey I recently saw your video on getting a dog to let go of it’s bite. A lot of powerful dogs have been bred with extra fur and fluff around their neck(e.g Tibetan mastiff) so I’m curious what u would do in that situation

I cover this in a few videos. Too much to explain here. But thick fur wouldn’t make a difference.
