I was recently diagnosed with a schizoid mental disorder I've liked this song since I was 10 or something, and now I see it hrough a whole different lense R A M O N E S Ramones! ♥
Yeah yeah yeah we know already...and you ""suffer from anxiety and depression and adhd and bpd"" and all the rest of it too just like every other slacker and soap-dodger right?.....Yawn.
This was the very first Ramones song and the very first punk rock song I ever heard. I was 9 years old, 1991. My whole world changed after that. Still holds up, you never forget things like that. Adults just don’t hear music like this the same way the kids do. And that’s what it’s all about.
Well that's strange cuz there was plenty of adults at their late 1970,s Shows when they were doing their best stuff... Shame you missed out kiddo 😂😂😂😂🤘🤘
i was finally tall enough to reach where the radio was on top of the fridge, with help of a chair. My mom was in the bathroom and i realized i can finally hear what i want. It was 1984, I was 9, I was tired of school, bullies, cops. I spun the dial to a New York station, I couldn't believe what I heard at all. Some live feed from a Ramones show. Joey yelling at some jerk." Yo, Hey, Yo.. Yeah, I said 'Fuck off and die, Yeah , Fuck off and die" . DeeDee counts to 4 and "Chainsaw" starts. Hearing that downstroke felt as natural as wood. I felt like I'd found my tribe..no one agreeing but to dance.
Ramones are legends for many reasons, not least of which was their cognisance of and focus on mental health. We all need people to confide in and outlets for us to be our best selves. I'm very thankful for this band, without them, music wouldn't be as fun. I hope you're out there, somebody like me. Subterranean Jungle kicks ass.
I love Subterranean Jungle! All I thought about my first time to NYC last year riding the subway was The Ramones and that album being on the subway. I also agree with what you said about metal health. The Ramones were advocates for mental health lath way before it was ever a thing. I always found comfort with The Ramones with my own mental issues my Brother! Subterranean kicks ass!
@@johnhareiel5118 Dang John, you're so cool, what a great story you shared. That sounds badass, a truly tasty accoutrement to your experience, I'm sure! I haven't been to NYC yet myself! That's very heartening to know you also find great meaning for yourself in the Ramones. It feels like sometimes they've been the sole sane sound in the airwaves. That would be awesome to experience NYC with a fellow Ramones fan like yourself bro😎
In 1992 I played this film clip while doing my English class major presentation on the Ramones as they relate to the history of punk and modern rock. It goes without saying that the teacher had some concerns as to the state of my mental health and many of my fellow students were a little shocked. Ramones forever!
@Stig Weard I went to a very conservative Catholic high school and neither my teacher nor the students were familiar with the Ramones or punk, I'm also well aware of when the Ramones started, it was 1974 so it was 17 years after they played their first, there was also quite a bit of tongue in cheek in my statement so thanks for questioning my reality but I hope I cleared that up to your satisfaction 😂
@Stig Weard don't care what you believe and always remember that your belief or otherwise does not effect reality, so again thanks for your completely irrelevant and unsolicited opinion
@Stig Weard I could show this to 50 people I know right now and shock the shit out of them. And I live 20 mins from where the Ramones formed. We live in America homie. People are afraid everything. I had a similar experience when I incorporated the bad religion logo into some of my 8th grade art class work. The teacher thought I was messed up. It's very common to happen upon misunderstanding as a punk loving kid.
@Stig Weard again your opinion and very limited scope of experience in no way effects reality, in summary you don't know what you're talking about and your opinion is irrelevant, thanks for playing, now piss off.
@Stig Weard I don't give a rat's arse who you've seen or how many times you've seen them, you are a fucking idiot, you r attempt at dictating how other people outside of your very narrow view respond to this film clip is laughable, now neck up and find your own comment thread to spout your vacuous shit on.
I love it when you turn the volume up to a point where the intro gets to the point that it’s almost too loud, and then the beat drops a split second after that.
Ramones were my first music Love (other than 50's music). I clung to them because I have severe OCD and ADHD and they understand my pain. I thank God for them because it's nice to listen to music that expresses how I feel.
Severe OCD here too. I love all their "mental health" songs (Shock Treatment, Teenage Lobotomy, etc.) I've found it helps when you can watch or listen to something like this and laugh and sing along and just feel better for awhile. I wonder if the Ramones had any clue that their music could help mentally ill people? 💕
I first heard this on a copy of Ramones Mania on cassette tape that I bought at a music store in downtown Syracuse and it's absolutely one of the best songs of all time I listen to it on repeat
I just heard about this video from an old, old Fangoria magazine, stating that MTV wouldn't show this video due to its subject matter. issue 34 March of 1984.
They played a private show in 92' at Carnegie Mellon Univ.....we heard about it and knew we had to get in....snuck into the show after they opened and got thrown out within minutes by security. I cant count how many times I saw the Ramones live in the 80's and 90's but every show was awesome.....1 2 3 4!!!!!!!

The Ramones definitely were creative. They also had a sense of humor.
