Lol. Hey Tom. I hate to call you out, but I have to correct on one of your comments. There are currently 3 graded copies of the Previews with Spawn on the CGC census. Including mine. I sent it in for the Mcfarlane signing last year and it came back in a massive slab..... 😂😂😂
@@fnyourmom3064 LMAO! a year old comment huh? So because someone watches his video they can't ask him to correct his mistakes? Without watching it it's not even possible to see the mistake lol get out of here captain save a ho'
He remembers where he came from and he is living by that... this is why I will continue to support Spawn and Todd McFarlane for the rest of my collection days!!! 😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🧡🧡
Todd is smart by keeping his book at $2.99. At $2.99 I buy all 3 covers every month where other books I really like that tend to cost $3.99 and $4.99 and I am less likely to buy multiple covers unless they are really appealing. But as far as spawn goes, it's all 3 covers no matter what, every month!
I have to agree with this, when I came back to collecting I went heavily weighted towards DC rebirth just due to Marvel Titles were 3.99 ea, and prior to my collecting break I was mostly a Marvel collector, now they are all 3.99 so my subs are more weighted towards marvel and I ditched a few DC titles. 2.99 per would make me buy quite a lot more subs :)
This is great! Spawn #1 is the first comic I ever bought with my own loot. My parents whooped my arse for riding my bike with a buddy to the Sears Department store WAY down the road in Chicago to go read the comics on the second floor. It blew my mind so much so that I spent my candy loot to get the issue. Worth the whoopin'. I still have the book, 25 years later. Good times.
This interview makes me want to spend even more on McFarlane comics and toys! Appreciate the points on considering the fans and health of the community!!!
Awesome interview! He was my favorite as a kid and remains it to this day. My favorite McFarlane covers of all-time are ASM 309 and ASM 325. Both tell a story with one picture. I don't think there will ever be a run as fine as his ASM run. Every cover is a gem and the interior art is just as outstanding.
Todd has always been the face for some of us. I helped spawn the revolution with every early purchase of an Image comic, and I had them all. So many of us did.
Imo, Todd's art is the reason comic books exploded in the copper age. I was there. Lol. Along with many other amazing artists but his style is unmistakable.
Todd nailed it when he mentioned the price hikes throughout the years. When I started collecting funny books 35+ years ago it urked me to no end everytime there was a price increase. As a kid with very little money, I had to make that decision as to what titles to stick with...UXM, ASM were the ones I chose. And at the time my only source of income was recycling cans. Good thing we lived near some bars. I'm just rambling on, but I did have the opportunity to meet Todd at a convention years ago. Too bad he didn't have time to chat with the fans as there was a long line waiting to see him.
Todd is and always will be a humble, grateful man and he shows it to his followers. For me his best work is and always be SPAWN # 1. Many memories every time I see the cover and enjoy reading it as if it were my first time. Thank You Todd for maintaining this Awesome Universe
Enjoyed this interview. I adore Todd McFarlane so much. He cares more about the fans than profiting off of them. I'll forever support anything with his name tied to it.
This interview is great Tom!! The reason I’m back to collecting Spawn now is the great art AND the $2.99 price!! I really admire Todd for that. Can’t wait for part 3!!
Love the interview, i find it funny how Todd is just super chill sitting by his fireplace. I thought he would have like a secret comic book library layer in his house conducting the interview out of. He seems like a super humble guy. Love it!
Stuff like the error Spawn 1 is soooo freaking excellent for this hobby. Makes everyone go check their copies and mixes things up. Even on a print count of a million, so rad!
Another great video Tom, keep these Todd Father videos coming. I enjoy any video with him talking about his work and keeping the comic collecting hobby alive for us fans.
I have never been a Spawn collector (after 30 years of comic collecting). But because of Todd's loyalty to his fans, I will now be adding Spawn to my pull list. "Don't drink from the spicket if you're not thirsty"...I love it!
Tom, this had to be such a thrill for you to hold this interview. I'm so very happy for you and the channel for coming so far. As for Todd, what an incredible presence in comics. So much wisdom shared with the community on not only comics, but life, and how we should treat one another. Looking forward to more.
Amazing man I love Todd for being so open and transparent about comic's. You did an amazing job with this part 2 interview. Thank you for giving me something that put a smile on my face. 👍🏼👍🏼😄😃
Wow, this is one of the best and interesting interviews I’ve seen on comics in a while. Tom, you questions are on point. And Todd’s answers are so genuine. Really great, can’t wait for the rest.
Wow Tom! This is turning out to be a great interview. Todd obviously has done many interviews, but these interviews deal more with the questions Collectors have. And also topics, that don't come up in the more mainstream interviews Todd does. I keep saying it, Todd McFarlane is the most important person in the industry right now! ASM #313 is my favorite McFarlane cover!
Great video, great interview. McFarlane has been in the biz long enough to know the biz and the audience. He benefits from maximizing what he knows. Looking forward to more of his creative output.
This was a great interview TOM. TODD is a great guy. I was a lapsed reader of SPAWN. The fact that he took it to 300 issues got me interested enough to pick it up. I like the art and the writing. I was shocked that the book only cost $2.99 as well. This price point also encourages me to buy all three of the covers as well. If he had re-numbered the series over and over I would never have picked it up to give it a chance. The other publishers just don't get it. Yes, number ones get that big bump but it never last in most cases. If I was starting out in the hobby now seeing a comic with a high number would cause me to check it out. Low numbers not so much. Higher numbers means to me that this is something to look into due to it's longevity. More videos like this please.
My favorite cover would be ASM 313 to be honest. The details in Lizards face so so good! Also hope the move goes well for you! Looking forward to more content!
I love how Todd takes the time to talk to you and how down to earth he is plus how he mentions why he keeps his comic book prices lower than his competition! A true pioneer!
its been amazing being on this ride with you and the whole crew. ive been watching your channel for over two years and even had the opportunity to meet you at cal con in 2019, you signed my backing board along with the golden age guru. thanks for everything and keep up the great work!
Always been a fan of McFarlane, this interview just made me respect him more for keeping his comic at $2.99. Make me even happier to continue to buy his comics and toys
Awesome interview and I am loving every drop of it! My favorite book or cover Mcfarlane has done was ASM 316! Love Venom on the cover! Hoping to secure this book very soon! Also collect Spawn since back in the day but missed a bunch during the early 2000's!
Great stuff, Tom! Todd has drawn so many great covers, and I finally secured another high-grade Incredible Hulk #340 which I am thrilled to have again!
3 years! Holy smokes! Congrats! I’ve been hanging with you since August of 2018. Weekly watcher, growing the collection, growing the sales. Love this interview, love the top 10, love the gem mint collaboration! Selfishly I need more: Comic Pops, Guru, and Fireguy. Nuff’ said!
These 2 interviews with Mr. McFarlane are amazing and very revealing. First, Tom you did a great job with Todd making him feel comfortable with the interview. Second I appreciate how humble the man is. He knows he’s had to climb the ladder by improving his drawings and approach to artwork. Now he’s at the top of his game but he still remembers where he came from. Because of this he’s retained his humility, what an impressive man!
Wow I got more respect and admiration for Todd, he likes a challenge and also he respects and know the importance of the fans, I think that is the reason why he currently is in a important place and he is earned it, great interview.
I've always loved Mcfarlane's artwork going back to his days with Marvel. His depictions of Hobgoblin are my favorite of that character. But I have to admit he kind of soured on me after that legal battle with Gaiman over the rights to Angela, it seemed like he had become the very thing that he started up Image to get away from. Hearing him say "greed's not a good thing" almost comes across as being a bit hypocritical, or at least disingenuous. But I don't know the guy well enough to say for certain, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that maybe he's grown from that ordeal and I could very well be way off base. Good interview, I look forward to more.
By far the best creator out there and super humble! Gotta love how he looks at the big picture and truly cares for the fans! Love the interview, much love and respect 🤙🏼🌺
Spawn #27 is favorite McFarlane cover for sure. Maybe even my fav comic cover ever. Simplistic but that splattered green wall with spawn slumped in front of it always catches my eye when I look at my wall.
Favorite has to be Spawn 1. What a great concept on raising prices: remember the fans and where you came from before success. Not the norm these days and greatly appreciated.
Keep doing the lord's work there, Tom! Thank you for all the continued, most excellent content; it's really combining perfectly with how I've gotten back into my comic book collecting! It's not every day just anybody gets to have an interview with the Toddfather :)

huh
Amazing interview. Todd is so humble and really cares about his fans.
His spawn 1 cover has to be my favourite. It’s perfect in so many ways
